Doc. NO: 1. General Description EWB160031M module features a fully integrated 2.4GHz radio transceiver and baseband processor for Wi-Fi 802.11b and Bluetooth® Smart applications. It can be used as a standalone application-specific communication processor or as a wireless data link in hosted MCU systems where ultra-low power is critical. It supports flexible memory architecture for storing profiles, stacks and custom application codes, and can be updated using Over-The-Air (OTA) technology. Qualified Bluetooth Smart protocol stack and Wi-Fi TCP/IP stack are stored in a dedicated ROM. EWB160031M module uses OPULINKS OPL1600 SoC. It is equipped with dual processors, ARM® Cortex®-M0 and M3, for handling different processes. All software runs on the ARM® Cortex®-M0 processor while more intensive application-specific activities run on the ARM® Cortex®-M3 processor. EWB160031M can be connected to any external MCU through SPI, I2C or UART interfaces and sensors or other devices through GPIOs. The transceiver interfaces directly to the antenna and is fully compliant with the Wi-Fi 802.11b and Bluetooth 5.0 BLE standards. With integrated antenna switch, RF balun, power amplifier (PA) and low noise amplifier (LNA), the OPL1600 allows both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Smart to minimize PCB design area and external component requirement. (New Taipei Laboratory) Page 16 of 52 5 FCC §1.1307(b)(3)(i) – RF Exposure 5.1 Applicable Standard According to subpart 15.247(i) and subpart §1.1307(b)(3)(i), systems operating under the provisions of this section shall be operated in a manner that ensures that the public is not exposed to radio frequency energy level in excess of the Commission’s guidelines. For single RF sources (i.e., any single fixed RF source, mobile device, or portable device, as defined in paragraph (b)(2) of this section): A single RF source is exempt if: (A) The available maximum time-averaged power is no more than 1 mW, regardless of separation distance. This exemption may not be used in conjunction with other exemption criteria other than those in paragraph (b)(3)(ii)(A) of this section. NO: 1. Introduction ANT-D566 PCB antenna used on EWB160031M WIFI+BLE module is described in this datasheet. It can be also used in all 2.4GHz designs, especially where small space is required for the antenna. This datasheet describes the antenna dimensions and RF performance test result. The suggested antenna design requires no more than 15.2 x 5.7mm of space and ensures a VSWR ratio of less than 2 across the 2.4 GHz ISM band when connected to a 50 ohm source. 2. Layout and Implementation Small changes of the antenna dimensions may have large impact on the performance. Therefore it is strongly recommended to make an exact copy of the reference design to achieve optimum performance. It is also recommended to use the same thickness and type of PCB material as used in the reference design. Information about the PCB can be found in a separate readme file included in the reference design. To compensate for a thicker/thinner PCB the antenna could be made slightly shorter/longer. Modular approval for use as a module in mobile only RF exposure conditions. Only those antenna(s) tested with the device or similar antenna(s) with equal or lesser gain maybe used with this transmitter. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must be installed to provide a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons and not be co-located with any other transmitters, except in accordance with FCC multi-transmitter product procedures. Compliance of this device in all final host configurations is the responsibility of the Grantee. End-users must be provided with specific information required to satisfy RF exposure compliance for the final host device. Installation of this device into portable RF Exposure category host devices requires the submission of a Class II permissive change or new application.
