Pod Instructions Welcome to the world of Pod! Thank you for buying your Pod GPS pet tracker. We hope you enjoy using this device. Before using your Pod, please read these instructions carefully to ensure you fully understand how it works and how it should be used. Step 1 – Charging the battery. Place the battery in the USB charging dock and insert the charger in a convenient USB port on your computer or alternatively a USB mains adaptor. An orange light will show that the battery is being charged. The battery needs to be charged for two hours or until the orange light turns green. General Description The Pod Tracker comprises four main elements; a GPS unit, to fix its position; a Network Service unit with a SIM card for communications, a motion sensor and a power source (battery). Please note that the GPS unit relies on information from satellites to establish its position and metal structures or large buildings may interfere with its ability to ‘see’ the satellites. Similarly, the Network Service Unit must be in range of the Mobile Network because it relies on the same technology as your mobile phone. In operation the Pod Tracker may lose its position from time to time when it is located in an area of poor satellite reception such as beneath a metal roof. This will not normally cause a problem because the unit will continue to re‐establish its position. If no movement is detected by the motion sensor for more than a minute the unit will switch to ‘sleep’ mode until movement is detected. Unit Description The illustration below shows the Pod Tracker with the battery installed. At the base of the unit at the opposite end to the battery the switch is located. This is a waterproof switch and therefore requires firm pressure at the centre of the base to activate. This is best achieved by squeezing the Pod Tracker between the thumb and forefinger with the thumb centrally on the base and the forefinger on the battery at the top. There are three indicator lights. The top indicator is on the battery where it connects to the unit. There are two further indicators on the unit itself. Top indicator (base of battery) Green ‐ battery is charged and ready for operation. Red ‐ battery is below 30% charge. Three red flashes – switching off Second indicator (longer of the two on the unit) Green ‐ network service connection established. Blue – trying to connect to network service. Third indicator (shorter of the two on the unit) Green – GPS fix established Blue – trying to obtain GPS fix Operation Assembly – take the charged battery and position it so that the marks on the battery and the unit are aligned. Press the battery and unit together until a click is heard. Holding the unit turn the battery clockwise until it is locked in position. Switching On – With the unit held between thumb and forefinger (as shown) press the switch at the centre of the base firmly for three seconds. All three indicator lights will illuminate green in sequence and will remain on for three seconds to show that the Pod Tracker has begun its start‐up process. Start‐Up Process The indicator lights will then extinguish and after ten seconds the second and third indicators will light for one second which will then be repeated every ten seconds until the unit has established its position when both will show green. During this process the second indicator will normally show green to indicate network service is working and the third indicator will show blue to indicate that the position has not yet been fixed. Please note that dependent upon location, time of day, weather conditions and satellite reception this process may initially take several minutes. Once the position has been fixed the unit will continue to automatically locate itself. Status Checking During normal operation the indicator lights will remain off to conserve battery power. The status of the unit may be checked at any time after the start‐up process is completed. This is achieved by a rapid depression and release of the switch. The indicator lights will then illuminate briefly to show the status of each function as follows:‐ Three Green – Battery good, Network Service good, GPS fix good. Green, Green, Blue – Battery good, Network Service good, Trying to establish GPS fix. Red, Green, Green – Battery below 30%, Network Service good, GPS fix good. Please note that care should be taken to press and release the switch quickly otherwise it will cause the unit to switch off and the start‐up procedure must be repeated to continue operation. Switching Off Press the switch for three seconds. The top indicator will flash red three times and the unit will power down. Replacing the Battery Removal of the battery will cause the unit to power down. Having replaced the battery it will then be necessary to switch on and allow the unit to run through the start‐up process. Fitting the strap Having familiarised yourself with the basic functions and operation of the unit, you are now ready to attach the unit to your pet’s collar. Pass the two short ends of the included rubber strap through the outer slots in the unit as shown so that the smooth side of the strap is next to the unit. Pull each tang until the first rib is visible. Pass the long tang around the collar and back through the centre slot in the unit in the opposite direction to the other tangs. Pull through enough ribs until the unit is securely fitted to the collar. The tang my then be trimmed and the end tucked through the slot provided. Please note that for ease of fitting and a more permanent attachment you may prefer to use a cable tie.
