CONTENTS Caution And Warning FCC Notice Preparing your new MMBeacon for use Using the MMBeacon MMBeacon Features Product Specification Warranty FCC Notice This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Warning: Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. Preparing your new MMBeacon for use Activate MMBeacon (Refer to Figure 1) 1. Remove MMBeacon from packaging 2. Pull the plastic tab out of the MMBeacon 3. Beacon is now active The MMBeacon is now ready for use. Figure 1. Using the MMBeacon Place the MMBeacon in a convenient location inside your car. The MMBeacon broadcasts an iBeacon signal. Your Metromile App uses this signal to know when you are driving in your car and records driving statistics and location data. Figure 2. MM Beacon Features 1. This limited warranty excludes damage resulting from normal wear and tear, defects or damage caused by mis-­‐use, accident (inc luding without limitation collision, fire and spillage of liquid), neglect, abuse, alteration, unusual stress, modification, improper or unauthorized repair, installation, wiring or testing, use with an unapproved device; use not in accordance with the documentation: and damage caused by the equipment with which the Product is used.

Operational Description

The Equipment Under Test (EUT) is a Beacon Transmitter which is placed inside a vehicle. The EUT broadcasts a Bluetooth BLE signal. The corresponding Metromile Apps program running in an IOS device (e.g. Apple iphone) uses this signal to know when the driver driving in the vehicle and records driving statistics and location data. The EUT can only support Bluetooth 4.0 BLE only. The Bluetooth portion occupies a frequency range of 2402MHz to 2480MHz (40 channels with channel spacing of 2MHz). The EUT is powered by a CR2032 3V Lithium battery. The main components are described below: 1. U1 (CC2541) is a System-On-Chip (SOC) solution incorporating with Bluetooth 4.0 BLE Compliant radio, 8051 MCU, 8k RAM, CODEC and other I/O peripherals. 2. B241 (LFB182G45BG2D280) is the balance matching band-pass filter for the 2.4GHz ISM band. 3. C242 and L243 are components of the antenna matching network. 4. X1 (32MHz crystal) provides system clock for U1 (CC2541). 5. X2 (32.768kHz crystal) provides a slow clock for reducing operating energy. 6. BC1 is CR2032 3.0V Lithium battery. 7. U2 (TPS62730) is DC/DC converter provides 3V regulated power supply. 8. PB1 is Tact switch for activating the EUT. 9. D1 is green LED indicator.
