RG-400 Indoor Gateway Quick Start Install Guide Quick Start Install Guide RG-400 Indoor Gateway Cognosos 2026. www.cognosos.com 1 Overview This document provides instruction for quick deployment of the RG-400 Indoor Gateway. For detailed instruction on the internet port configuration, please contact Cognosos customer support at: [email protected]. Included Hardware • RG-400 Indoor gateway • Indoor antenna • Mounting template (last page of this guide) Additional Required Hardware • Mounting screws, anchors and tools for desired wall material (#8 screws, 4 per gateway) • T10 Torx screwdriver • Level or Cognosos provided template with integrated level Step 1: Selecting Placement Location: a. Placement should be approximately 6 feet above the floor with 18” clearance from top mounting screw to the ceiling to allow room for a vertical antenna installation. b. Customer’s IT team selects assigned location in coordination with Cognosos’ Network Engineering team. Location should allow easy access to an ethernet port and have access to PoE or an AC power source, while being out of the way of daily traffic flow. Cognosos customer support will provide IT port configuration information. c. When possible, avoid areas where paint is chipping, blistering, cracking, peeling, fading, or uneven. d. Avoid mounting the gateway and antenna within 2 feet of large metal objects such as file cabinets, ductwork, conduit or metal fencing. Step 2: Mounting the Gateway: a) Use Cognosos’ leveling template tool or a level and the paper template on the last page of this guide to mark mounting screw locations. b) Drill and insert anchors/screws as required, leaving the screw head extending approximately 0.3” from the wall. Note that the maximum screw head size is 0.35” to fit in the keyhole. (#8 size screw is recommended.) RG-400 Indoor Gateway Quick Start Install Guide Quick Start Install Guide RG-400 Indoor Gateway Cognosos 2026. www.cognosos.com 2 c) Continue to Step 3 (Connecting Ethernet + Power) before continuing with Step 2d below. d) Once power and ethernet are connected, the gateway may be installed by placing the screw heads into the keyhole slots and pushing downward to lock in the screw heads. e) Optional: If a more secure attachment is desired, there is adhesive tape on the backside of the housing that can be exposed and secured to the mounting surface after the screwheads are placed in the keyholes. CAUTION: If using the double-sided tape adhesive, use care to lock in the keyholes before allowing the adhesive to contact the wall. Once keyholes are locked in place, press the gateway against the wall for 30 seconds to secure adhesive. Step 3: Connecting Ethernet + Power: a) The gateway can be powered by 802.3af PoE or by an optional Cognosos 12VDC power adapter. If installing the Cognosos 12VDC power adapter, insert the keyed mating connector and screw the threaded locking connector on the cable to the gateway device. b) Remove the plastic housing cable covers to install ethernet or power cables: i. Unsnap and remove the lower infill cover. Infill cover snaps in place; remove as needed for access. ii. Loosen the T10 screws to remove the lower front cover plate. c) Feed cables through opening in the back mounting plate before connecting. Route cables through the tunnel that leaves the least exposed cable. If cables are routed from above the gateway, use cable tunnel farthest from the antenna to minimize performance impact. d) Connect all cables and verify power and ethernet status. e) Reinstall infill cover and lower front cover plate. Step 4: Verifying Power + LED Status After installing either Ethernet or 12VDC power: a) Ensure the green “successful OS boot” LED turns on after approximately 20 seconds. b) If installing Ethernet, ensure both “link established” and “activity” LEDs are on after about 20 seconds. c) The activity LED will blink off randomly whenever there is network activity on that port. RG-400 Indoor Gateway Quick Start Install Guide Quick Start Install Guide RG-400 Indoor Gateway Cognosos 2026. www.cognosos.com 3 Step 5: Installing Antenna a) Gently screw the antenna in place finger tight. Do not over-tighten with tools. b) The antenna should be pointing vertically once installed. (see figures below) WARNING: If the antenna is not vertical, radio range may be reduced.
