WaRNINg Power Insert the power plug firmly.Do not connect multiple devices to a single outlet simultaneously. Do not touch the main body, power cable, or power plug with wet hands. If video/sound cable generates heat after connection, pull out the power cord and contact customer service immediately. Installation/Maintenance Do not install in humid or dusty areas, and avoid installing near heating devices. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture. Keep flammable substances or sprays away from the set-top box. Pull out the power plug during thunderstorms or when not used for a prolonged period of time. Do not place heavy objects on this product. Pull out the power plug at once and contact customer service if unusual noise, smell, or smoke comes out. SMT-H3462 User Guide_3 CautIoN Power Connect your TV after powering off the TV and the set-top box by pulling out the power plug. Before connecting the power source, permanent protective earth connection to the cable distribution should be made. The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible The Mains plug is used as a disconnect device and shall stay readily operable at any time. Do not insert the power plug before connecting the power cable to the product. Installation/Maintenance Install the product correctly complying with the instructions in the user guide. No connection to an antenna. Apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquid, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus. Do not remove the CableCARD™ from the set-top box. Do not spray water directly on the unit and do not use chemical solvents such as wax, mosquito spray, alcohol or detergent. Do not place any metal items such as pins, paper clips or coins on the top of the product. Do not place the product on unstable support. Risk of electric shock, Do NOT OPEN. Do not disassemble, repair, or remodel. Wipe the product with a soft and dry cloth when cleaning. Cautions regarding data loss (HDD management) 1. When handling, take care not to damage the data in the hard disc. - Hard discs are vulnerable to problems caused by the external environment or to impact during use, so take care not to damage the device. - Take care not to move the set-top box while the power is on, or to subject it to impact, as this may damage the data. 2. Situations where the hard disc and data may be damaged - The hard disc and data may be damaged if subjected to shock while moving the set-top box or during installation. - The hard disc and data may be damaged when the set-top box is reset (reconfigured) or if there is a power outage while the hard disc is running. - Data may be irrecoverable for a variety of several reasons (e.g. a virus infection). - The hard disc and data may be damaged by turning the power off while recording or playing. - Files may be damaged or bad sectors may result if the set-top box is subjected to shock or moved while the hard disc is operating. 4_© SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS Co., Ltd. Maximum gain is measured to be +3.3 dB and overall size requirements for this antenna are 25.7 x 7.5 mm. Thus, this is a compact, low cost and high performance antenna. The easiest approach to implement the antenna in a PCB CAD tool is to import the antenna layout from either a gerber or DXF file. Such files are included in CC2430DB reference design [1]. The gerber file is called “Inverted_F_Antenna.spl” and the DXF file is called “Inverted_F_Antenna.dxf”. If the antenna is implemented on a PCB that is wider than the antenna it is important to avoid placing components or having a ground plane close to the end points of the antenna. If the CAD tool being used doesn’t support import of gerber or DXF files, Figure 1 and Table 1 can be used. Figure 1. IFA Dimensions Since there is no ground plane beneath the antenna, PCB thickness will have little effect on the performance. The results presented in this design note are based on an antenna implemented on a PCB with 1 mm thickness. SWRU120B Page 3 of 14 Design Note DN0007 4 Results All results presented in this chapter are based on measurements performed with CC2430DB [1]. 4.1 Radiation Pattern Figure 2 shows how to relate all the radiation patterns to the orientation of the antenna. Measured Reflection at the Feed Point of the Antenna Figure 9 show that the IFA ensures less than 10 % reflection of the available power for a bandwidth of more than 300 MHz. A large bandwidth makes the antenna less sensitive to detuning due to plastic encapsulation or other objects in the vicinity of the antenna. 4.3 Bandwidth Another way of measuring the bandwidth after the antenna is implemented on a PCB and connected to a transmitter is to write test software that steps a carrier across the frequency band of interest. By using the “Max hold” function on a spectrum analyzer the variation in output power across frequency can easily be measured. Figure 10 shows how the output power varies on the IFA when the PCB is horizontally oriented and the receiving antenna has horizontal polarization. This measurement was not performed in an anechoic chamber thus the graph shows only the relative variation for the given frequency band.
