January 3, 2002 Federal Communications Commission Equipment Approval Services 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Attn: Mr. Joe Dichoso SUBJECT: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. FCC ID: A3LSPHS100 731 Confirmation No.: EA101893 Correspondence Reference No.: 21277 Request for Tech. Info.: 11/16/01 Dear Joe: Transmitted herewith, on behalf of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is an amendment provided in response to the request for technical information dated November 16, 2001. 1. The unit is designed with a speaker phone section that operates best when there is a 1 in. spacing between the microphone and the users mouth. The unit has been retested for this mode in the flat phantom with a 1.2cm spacing. 2. Please find the attached description for 10 gram averaging. 3. The following statement will be included in the users manual. In order to comply with FCC RF Exposure requirements always wear the watch on your wrist when the unit is transmitting and be sure that the band is adjusted tight on the wrist so that it will not slide down onto the forearm. With the exception of the wrist and hand always maintain a 1.2cm spacing between the watch and other parts of the body. 4. The wrist phantom is 2mm thick. And the depth of the liquid during the test was 6cm. Please find the attached Z-scan plots showing adequate liquid depth. 5. The unit has been retested in 15cm of liquid. Please find the attached data. 6. Please find the attached data for face SAR measured in the flat phantom with a 1.2cm spacing. 7. Please find the attached data for the retest of the wrist SAR on the highest channel. 8. Please find the revised summary table listing the proper limit for wrist SAR. 9. Please find the attached revised warning statement to be placed in the users manual. 10. Please note the manual is preliminary and that when the device is marketed the proper image for depicting the watch will be included. We trust this information is sufficient for the immediate grant of this application. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. cc: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Test Report S/N: SAR.200905449.A3L SAR Measurement Report Test Dates: September 5-6 & 15, 2000 FCC Part 24 Certification SAMSUNG FCC ID: A3LSPHS100 (Model: SPH-S100) Β© 2001 PCTEST Lab Single-Mode PCS CDMA Phone (Tx 1851-1910 MHz) 2 2.1 INTRODUCTION The FCC has adopted the guidelines for evaluating the environmental effects of radiofrequency radiation in ET Docket 93-62 on Aug. 6, 1996 to protect the public and workers from the potential hazards of RF emissions due to FCC-regulated portable devices.[1] The safety limits used for the environmental evaluation measurements are based on the criteria published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for localized specific absorption rate (SAR) in IEEE/ANSI C95.1-1992 Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300 GHz. (c) 1992 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., New York, New York 10017.[2] The measurement procedure described in IEEE/ANSI C95.3-1992 Recommended Practice for the Measurement of Potentially Hazardous Electromagnetic Fields - RF and Microwave[3] is used for guidance in measuring SAR due to the RF radiation exposure from the Equipment Under Test (EUT). These criteria for SAR evaluation are similar to those recommended by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) in Biological Effects and Exposure Criteria for Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields,β NCRP Report No. 86 (c) NCRP, 1986, Bethesda, MD 20814.[4] SAR is a measure of the rate of energy absorption due to exposure to an RF transmitting source. SAR values have been related to threshold levels for potential biological hazards. 2.2 SAR Definition Sβ¦

METHODOLOGY FOR FINDING THE 10 GRAM ON THE IDX 660 SAR SYSTEM First I will discuss the method for finding the 1g average and go on to 10g average. The method for finding the one gram average on the 660 systems consisted of a single z axis scan on the hot spot (highest reading found during the area scan). The first sample point (measurement), on the axis scan, started with the probe at the surface and then the robot moved the probe up in z incremental step (SAR Scan Step Size). The system would then use these points to extrapolate the center of the probe dipoles to the surface of the phantom. This extrapolation distance is known as the probe offset. An average slope is determined from the three data points nearest to the surface of the phantom, and is then used to calculate attenuation of SAR energy density with height above the phantom surface, as shown in the following equations. Where: E tot Zn = total voltage at point n in the +Z direction (measured value) E tot Z0 = total voltage for dipole at phantom surface (extrapolated value) Offset = distance from center of probe dipoles to the physical tip of probe (approximately 0.2 cm - 0.3 cm)β¦
