American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 April 17, 2007 RE: FCC ID: AK814798212X_ATCB004808 Attention: Keijiro Kumagai I have a few comments on this Application. Please note that further comments may arise in response to answers provided to the questions below. 1. Please note that as the device does not meet all of the 8 requirements for modular approval and is thus a Limited Modular approval, radiated spurious emissions must be done inside the representative host product. Please note that item 5 of the LMA request letter states that the device was tested in stand alone configuration and then verified for compliance. This statement however, is not defined and is confusing. If this statement is meant to state that the device radiated emissions compliance was verified in the host, please provide the radiated emissions test results with the device inside the host. If the radiated test results include radiated emissions inside the host, please clearly identify which test data series provides this information. 2. Please provide the test setup photos showing the radiated emissions testing with the module inside the host. 3. Please specify the type host for which this LMA applies. 4. FYI – please note that while the bandwidth measurement procedure in the DTS test procedure from the FCC states a resolution band width of 100kHz can be used, please also note that the FCC has the position that for bandwidth and other measurements the resolution bandwidth should never be less than 1% of the emissions bandwidth. Consequently, while 100KHz may be appropriate for an 802.11 device in its normal mode, when in turbo of high data rate modes where the emissions bandwidth exceed 12MHz a 100kHz res bandwidth would exceed the other requirement of res bandwidths greater than or equal to 1% of the emissions bandwidth. Please consider this in your measurements for bandwidths greater than 1MHz. 5. Please provide the analyzer setting information for the PPSD measurements. 6. Please note that the manual appears to be for the host of the LMA. Please also note that the request for modular approval letter states that the transmitter is to be professionally installed. Please provide the installation manual instructions showing professional installation. If this is to be installed by the OEM, then please correct the request letter concerning the incorrect professional installation statement. 7. Please complete that rf exposure letter for IC and provide the MPE values as required. Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.

RF Exposure Info

Applicant: Son y Corporation Type of Equipment : Wireless LAN Module Model No. : CAWM-001 FCC ID: AK814798212X Sony Corporation declares that Model : Wireless LAN Module complies with FCC radiation exposure requirement specified in the FCC Rules 2.1093. The “CAWM-001“ has 134.59 mW of conducted Peak Output power and 146.55 mW of EIRP. This kind of equipment is below 60/frequency[GHz] mW(TCB Exclusion List) so that SAR testing is excluded. The Following calculation is the reference data for 20cm distance. RF Exposure Calculations: The following information provides the minimum separation distance for the highest gai n antenna provided with the “CAWM-001“ as calculated from FCC OET Bulletin 65 Appendix A, Table (B) Limits for General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure. This calculation is based on the highest EIRP possible from the system, considering maximum power and antenna gain, and considering a 1.0mW/cm^2 uncontrolled exposure limit. The Friis formula used was: S = (P * G) / (4* π * r 2 ) Where P = 134.59 mW (Maximum peak output power) G = 1.09 Numerical Antenna gain; equal 0.37 dBi r =20.0 cm For: CAWM-001S = 0.02916 mW/cm 2 RF Exposure Statement No. : AF07023-A
