UHF Synthesized Transmitter 2-693-883-02(1) DRAFT version Operating Instructions U3032/U4244 WRT-8P ©2006 Sony Corporation 2 Owner’s Record The model number plate is located on the side and the serial number is located inside the battery compartment. Record the model and serial numbers in the space provided below. Refer to these numbers whenever you call upon your Sony dealer regarding this product. M o d e l N o . S e r i a l N o . Notice for customers in the U.S.A. Use of Sony wireless devices is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission as described in Part 74 subpart H of the FCC regulations and users authorized thereby are required to obtain an appropriate license. You are cautioned that any changes or modifications not expressly approved in this manual could void your authority to operate this equipment. IMPORTANT NOTE: To comply with the FCC RF exposure compliance requirements, no change to the antenna or the device is permitted. Any change to the antenna or the device could result in the device exceeding the RF exposure requirements and void user's authority to operate this device. This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. FCC Radiation Exposure Statement: The available scientific evidence does not show that any health problems are associated with using low power wireless devices. There is no proof, however, that these low power wireless devices are absolutely safe. Low power Wireless devices emit low levels of radio frequency energy (RF) in the microwave range while being used. Whereas high levels of RF can produce health effects (by heating tissue), exposure to low level RF that does not produce heating effects causes no known adverse health effects. Many studies of low level RF exposures have not found any biological effects. Some studies have suggested that some biological effects might occur, but such findings have not been confirmed by additional research. Notice for customers in Canada: Use of Sony wireless devices is regulated by the Industry Canada as described in their Radio Standard Specification RSS-123. A license is normally required. The local district office of Industry Canada should therefore be contacted. When the operation of the device is within the broadcast band, the license is issued on no-interference, no- protection basis with respect to broadcast signals. Operation of this device is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device. The term “IC:” before the radio certification number only signifies that Industry Canada technical specifications were met. IC Exposure of Humans to RF Fields The installer of this radio equipment must ensure that the antenna is located or pointed such that it does not emit RF field in excess of Health Canada limits for the general population; consult Safety Code 6, obtainable from Health Canada's website: www.hc-sc.gc.ca/rpb. This transmitter is suitable for ENG 1) and EFP 2) . The microphone/transmitter and tuner of the wireless microphone system are classified by frequency band. A 24-MHz frequency band is assigned to each microphone/transmitter and tuner model. In building a UHF wireless microphone system, be sure to combine a microphone/transmitter and a tuner having the same wireless channel (frequency). 1) ENG: Electronic News Gathering 2) EFP: Electronic Field Production Features The features of the WRT-8P are as follows: • Converts a wired microphone to a wireless microphone via an XLR-type connector. • Compact and lightweight metal body provides high durability and good balanced handling. • 250 mW high RF output power for stable long-distance transmission. • Selectable RF output power: 250 mW/50 mW. • +48 V power supply for microphone. • Switchable input level (MIC or LINE). • Attenuator function allows adjustment of the audio input level. • An LCD with a backlighting provides extensive information. • Optimized balance when combined with the F-112 Dynamic Microphone. Precautions • The unit is designed for use in ambient temperature range of 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F). • Do not place the …

Info.: January 8, 2007 Dear Stan: Transmitted herewith, on behalf of Sony Corporation is an amendment provided in response to the request for technical information dated January 8, 2007. 1. The antenna of the product is the microphone body. Please find attached the photo of the antenna of the microphone showing the antenna portion. 2. This microphone is intended to be used less than 20 cm from the person’s face/ head and hand. Therefore, SAR was performed in a typical face-held configuration in a worst-case touch mode position (0 cm spacing). 3. We followed the procedures specified in Alternative System Verification “Method B” per FCC Lab SAR Probe Calibration and System Verification, November 2006. The 615 MHz Dipole target was validated with five measurements to verify that the standard deviation was less than 2%. Please find attached revised pg. 16 of the SAR Report. We trust this information is sufficient to resolve FCC questions in this application. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. cc: Sony Corporation

REV 3.6C 11/27/06 1 INTRODUCTION The FCC has adopted the guidelines for evaluating the environmental effects of radio frequency (RF) radiation in ET Docket 93-62 on Aug. 6, 1996 to protect the public and workers from the potential hazards of RF emissions due to FCC-regulated portable devices.[1] The safety limits used for the environmental evaluation measurements are based on the criteria published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for localized specific absorption rate (SAR) in IEEE/ANSI C95.1-2005 Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300 GHz. (c) 1992 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., New York, New York 10017.[2] The measurement procedure described in IEEE/ANSI C95.3-2002 Recommended Practice for the Measurement of Potentially Hazardous Electromagnetic Fields - RF and Microwave[3] is used for guidance in measuring the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) due to the RF radiation exposure from the Equipment Under Test (EUT). These criteria for SAR evaluation are similar to those recommended by the Internation…
