To prevent equipment damage and shock hazard caused by lightning, antenna installation and the grounding system must comply with NEC or IEC standards, and local regulatory requirements. Power switch Turn on power to the radio. 5 Check the receive signal level (RSSI) at each end of the hop. 6 Receive signal level must be between 0 and 4.8 volts. A signal level closer to 4 volts indicates a more robust system. Connect Voltmeter to orange (RSSI) and black (GND) test jacks. Check the BER performance of the hop. 7 1)Loopback the T1 (or E1) data at the far end. 2)Using a T1 (or E1) test set, send data to the far end and monitor the BER. There should be no errors over a 15-minute period. (See figure in box 4.)
When the radio hop is operating normally: •The PWR lamp (green LED) is lighted. •The TX ALM and RX ALM lamps (red LEDs) are extinguished (not lighted). •The RSSI test jack voltage level (measured with a Voltmeter) is between 0 and 4.8 Vdc. •A T1 (or E1) loopback test indicates no errors. Trouble Symptoms and Suggested Corrective Actions No. TROUBLE SYMPTOM CORRECTIVE ACTION 1No communication link between two Aurora radios in the hop and the PWR lamp (green LED) is OFF. 1)Make sure the power switches on the radios at both ends of the hop are turned ON. 2)Check the connections to the power source. 3)Check the power source itself for availability of power. 2No communication link between two radios in the hop and the PWR LED is lighted. 1)Make sure far-end radio is turned ON. 2)Check the RSSI voltage level. 3)Check all cables for proper and secure connections. 4)Check the antennas for proper “line-of-sight” alignment. 3The TX ALM lamp (red LED) is lighted. 1)The transmit output power level may be too low (3 dB lower than nominal). 4The RX ALM lamp (red LED) is lighted. 1)Check the RSSI voltage level. 2)Check the antennas for proper alignment. 3)Check the transmit output power at the distant end; the power to the Rx end is too low. 5LOS Alarm1)Loss of signal (LOS) means the DS1/E1 signal is missing at the input of the modem board. The tests described herein measured the RF radiated (RFI Field Strength) emissions of two Spread Spectrum Radios, operating as a “North – South” pair in a typical setup. Further, three sets of such pairs were evaluated so as to comply with paragraph 15.31 (m). The tests conformed to the measurement and test site requirements of ANSI C63.4-1992. This report addresses the requirements of para 15.205, 15.207 and 15.209 for the digital processes of the Radios but does not address the technical requirements for Spread Spectrum Radios, paragraph 15.247.
