INSTALLATION Set the power switch on the front panel to Off before installing. Connect the unit to an AC power source using the supplied power cable. Switch the power On to use the device. The power light will illuminate. Power the unit Off when not in use or before disconnecting the unit from the AC power source. 8-TO-1 COMBINING: 1.Using the supplied BNC-BNC cables, connect the ANTENNA OUT- PUT of each transmitter to the ANTENNA INPUTS of the PA821 (Figure 2). 2.Attach an antenna to the MAIN OUT of PA821. For wideband appli- cations, use PA805WB directional antenna (Figure 1). 3.Connect the PA821 to a power outlet using one of the supplied power cables. The PA821 contains a universal power supply to oper - ate anywhere in the world. FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 ! A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wider blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet. 10.PROTECT the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus. 11.ONLY USE attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer. 12. 13.UNPLUG this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. 14.REFER all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is dam- aged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. 15.DO NOT expose the apparatus to dripping and splashing. Reihl / Anders Melberg I have a few comments on this Application. 1. Page 71 of the report states the highest fundamental of the combiner is 704MHz. Page 65 of the report indicates that the highest frequency was 746MHz. Power measurements were made at 533 and 746MHz. This would indicate that the 704MHz listed on page 71 of the report is incorrect. Please explain. 2. The 731 states 470MHz to 870MHz. Please note that part 74 devices do not operate in the 824 to 849MHz band as this is a part 22 cell band. Thus these frequencies are not proper for a part 74 grant. Please note that the frequencies 470-608 and 614-806 MHz are more correct. The grant would therefore be 470MHz to 806 MHz. Also, other information in the report suggest that the passband of the device would be 533MHz to 746MHz. Please correct the 731 to be in line with the frequencies allocated to Part 74 and/or the actual passband of the device. 3. Please note that the lowest frequency test in the device is 533MHz. Please note that the highest frequency tested is 746MHz. This is 63MHz away from the low band edge and 60MHz from the upper band edge (806MHz) at which you state the device operates (i.e. see 731). In accordance with the requirements for auxiliary devices under Part 74.861e, please show compliance of the device at the upper and lower band edges for Part 74 devices (470MHz and 806MHz). If the actual passband of the device is 533MHz to 806MHz, please correct the 731 accordingly. 4. Please note that intermodulation tests should typically be done using frequencies near the upper and lower edges of the pass band of the device in question. Please explain why the frequencies used were selected and not frequencies closer to the band edges. (see items 2 and 3). 5. Please provide a separate operational / technical description of the device. I will upload a corrected copy as soon as it is available. 2. I have modified the 731 form to state a frequency range of 470 to 806 MHz for Part 74 Certification. The PA821 broadband antenna combiner is designed for operation up to 870 MHz, because in other countries where it is sold, e.g. Europe, wireless microphone systems have frequency assignments in those bands. 3. The test frequencies mentioned in the report were chosen according to the availability of the transmitters that are used with it. Because the device is a broadband antenna combiner, it can be expected to meet the requirements of FCC Part 74.861e when used with compliant transmitters anywhere within the range of 470-806 MHz (including up to 870 MHz outside the USA). The device does not modify the occupied bandwidth of the signal source. The broadband nature of the equipment can be verified by reviewing the schematic and other information being supplied with the application. Other test sources could be used to drive the amplifier for test purposes, but we felt that the most representative results would be obtained using the transmitters that we manufacture. 4.
