05-xxxxA01, Rev. AeNETL2T/U 40-Watt Power Amplifier Page 1 of 2 INTRODUCTION The eNETL2T is a 40-watt RF power amplifier designed for use in the 220–222 MHz frequency range. It is intended to serve as a 100% duty cycle amplifier for MDS entraNET 220 radio modules (ROR220) operating in point-to-multipoint repeater applications. The amplifier is designed to comply with FCC Part 90 and FCC Part 15 requirements. The eNETL2U is a similar model designed as an intermittent duty amplifier for the same purpose. Figure 1. MDS eNETL2 Series RF Power Amplifier (T-model shown, cover removed to show internal layout) Product Description The eNETL2T/U power amplifier consists of a RF amplifier and PCB mounted to a heat sink, with a DC Power interface, power control interface, and input/output RF connections on the sidewalls of the chassis. DC power is supplied to the amplifier from a regulated and filtered DC source capable of supplying 10-16 Vdc at a maximum current of 6 Amperes. The DC power source should be current limited or have a protective fuse or circuit breaker. INSTALLATION Mounting the Unit The amplifier is designed for mounting in a standard 19 -inch rack cabinet using the 3U panel provided. Four screws (not pro- vided) are required to attach the panel to the rack sides. This panel also serves as a heat sink for the PA module, and is nor- mally mounted with the cooling fins facing outward. External Connections To place the amplifier module in service, make the following ca- ble connections: 1. Using low loss 50-ohm coaxial cable, connect the RF Input connector (J103) to the RF output connector of the MDS entraNET 220 radio module (ROR220). 2. Using low loss 50-ohm coaxial cable, connect the RF Output connector (J102) to the station duplexer. 3. Connect the Power Control interface (J101) to the MDS entraNET 220 radio module (ROR220) in accordance with the pin connections listed below. J101 is an 8-pin Molex polarized connector. Pin 1—3 Vdc enable TX, low=off Pin 2—0.7 Vdc (varies to set RF power) Pin 3—Not used Pin 4—Ground 4. Connect 10-16 Vdc power supply to the Power connector (J100). The left pin is positive (+); the right is negative(–). RF Power Output Check/Adjustment To check/set the amplifier’s RF power output level, proceed as follows: 1. Connect a wattmeter (rated for use at 220 MHz, and at least 40 watts) to the amplifier’s RF output connector (J102). Terminate the wattmeter into a 50-ohm, non- inductive load. 2. Apply RF drive from the MDS entraNET 220 radio module (ROR220) and note the RF power indication at J102. 3. If necessary, adjust R115 (see Figure 1) with an insulated flat blade tool to achieve the desired output level. Access to R115 is available through a top cover vent slot. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 November 7, 2007 RE: FCC ID: E5MDS-ENETL2TU_ATCB005587 Attention: David Bare I have a few comments on this Application. Please note that further comments may arise in response to answers provided to the questions below. 1. Please note that it is not clear from the documentation if this device can have more than one input signal. If this device can have more than one input, please provide the required intermodulation test data. 2. In regards to multiple input possibility for this device as mentioned above, please explain if the power out is per channel of composite of all channels. 3. Please provide that parts list for this device. 4. Please provide the MPE report for this device. Alternately, please explain if this device will always be used in a licensed site where MPE is addressed at the time of licensing. 5. Please note that as all documentation will be uploaded to the Industry Canada site all documentation will be public view. If confidentiality is desired for Industry Canada, please provide a request for confidentiality addressed to Industry Canada. 6. Please note that the label states MDS as the manufacturer, but the IC application form states GE MDS LLC. Please note that the IC company number 101D belongs to GE MICROWAVE DATA SYSTEMS LLC 175 Science Parkway, but the number of the manufacturer shown on the label (Microwave Data Systems) at the same address is 3738A. Please correct the label to reflect the actual IC company number being used for this device or please correct the other documentation to show the correct IC company number for MDS. Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Page 1 of 2 American TCB November 9, 2007 RE: FCC ID: E5MDS-ENETL2TU, IC: 101D-ENETL2TU ATCB005587 Attention: Dennis Ward Please find the applicant’s responses to your comments on this application below: 1. Please note that it is not clear from the documentation if this device can have more than one input signal. If this device can have more than one input, please provide the required intermodulation test data. This amplifier was designed only to support the 2watt MDS radio, the ROR220. It was custom designed for the railroads and is intended only to be used with the ROR220 licensed transceiver as a repeater amplifier. 2. In regards to multiple input possibility for this device as mentioned above, please explain if the power out is per channel of composite of all channels. I think the answer to question 1 should solve this. 3. Please provide that parts list for this device. A parts list has been uploaded, please treat this confidential. A new confidentiality letter has been uploaded to include the BOM. 4. Please provide the MPE report for this device. Alternately, please explain if this device will always be used in a licensed site where MPE is addressed at the time of licensing. This power amplifier will have the MPE safety detailed when the licensed 220MHz site antennas are installed. Alternately I did include the maximum MPE on the operating instructions and based this on the maximum gain antenna that we know the railroads will be using. Please see page 2 of the operation document that I previously sent. 5. Please note that as all documentation will be uploaded to the Industry Canada site all documentation will be public view. If confidentiality is desired for Industry Canada, please provide a request for confidentiality addressed to Industry Canada. We have uploaded a confidentiality letter for IC. This is an Industry Canada issue; I worked with Marianne Bosley at ATCB and Dave Guidotti from Elliott. IC wants to use the new 101D moving forward for all new grants. IC assigned this number. The IC number is what is licensed, just like the FCC. GE MDS LLC is simply GE Microwave Data Systems, Limited Liability Corp. We still use the brand name recognition of MDS but legally our name had to change and have the GE put in front of it. This is when IC said we need to use the GE IC number of 101D. Regards, David W.
