You can charge either handset in the base or in the charger. You’ll need to connect the base to both AC power and a modular telephone jack. You’ll connect the charger to AC power only. For more installation information, please see INSTALLATION in this User Manual. About Caller Identification (Caller ID) This product has a Caller ID with Call Waiting feature that works with service from your local phone service provider. Caller ID with Call Waiting lets you see who’s calling before you answer the phone, even when you’re on another call. You may need to change your phone service to use this feature. Contact your phone service provider if: •You have both Caller ID and Call Waiting, but as separate services (you may need combined service) •You have only Caller ID service, or only Call Waiting service •You don’t subscribe to any Caller ID or Call Waiting services. You can use this product with regular Caller ID service, and you can use this product’s other features without subscribing to either Caller ID or combined Caller ID with Call Waiting service. There are fees for Caller ID services, and they may not be available in all areas. This product can provide information only if both you and the caller are in areas offering Caller ID service, and if both telephone companies use compatible equipment. About Call History This phone assigns each incoming call a number from 1 to 30. The most recent call will have the lowest number. When the memory is full, the oldest call information is deleted to make room for new incoming call information. If you answer a call before call information appears on the screen, it will not be in the call history. Use only the power cord supplied with this product. If you need a replacement, call 1 800 222-3111. 3Install the handset battery. Use only AT&T Battery 2401, SKU# 91077. INSTALLATION 4 Standard electrical outlet Modular telephone jack b) Place the battery pack in the handset. Align the metal contacts on the battery with the contacts in the battery compartment. c) Replace cover by sliding it on its track up over battery case until it snaps firmly into place. a) Remove battery compartment cover by pressing on indentation and sliding downward. 2Connect the telephone line cord. After the first charge, the battery will quick charge in only eight hours. 5Check for dial tone. •After the batteries are charged, lift the handset and press P; you should hear a dial tone. Belt Clip Attach belt clip to the cordless handset (optional). Headset You can use this telephone hands-free when you install a 2.5 mm headset (purchased separately). Plug the headset into the jack located on the left side of the handset (under the small rubber flap). Do not force the connection, but make sure the plug fits securely. a) Slide down into grooves to attach. b) Push up and away to remove. Handset Volume Adjusting handset volume will not affect the volume of what the other party hears. Default setting is 3. You can also adjust volume during conversation by pressing <or >. 1Press S. Telephone calls are transmitted between the base and the handset by radio waves, so there is a possibility that your cordless phone conversations could be intercepted by radio receiving equipment within range of the cordless handset. For this reason, you should not think of cordless phone conversations as being as private as those on corded phones. Electrical Power:The base unit of this cordless telephone must be connected to a working electrical outlet. The electrical outlet should not be controlled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made from the handset if the base unit is unplugged or switched off, or if the electrical power is interrupted. Potential TV Interference:Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies that may cause interference to TVs and VCRs. To minimize or prevent such interference, do not place the base unit of the cordless telephone near or on top of a TV or VCR. If interference is experienced, moving the cordless telephone farther away from the TV or VCR will often reduce or eliminate the interference. (Applies to 25-channel cordless phones only.) Rechargeable Batteries:This product contains either Nickel-Cadmium or Nickel-Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries. Precautions for Users of Implanted Cardiac Pacemakers Cardiac Pacemakers (applies only to 900 MHz Digital Cordless Telephones): Wireless Technology Research, LLC (WTR), an independent research entity, led a multidisciplinary evaluation of the interference between portable wireless telephones and implanted cardiac pacemakers. Supported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, WTR had recommended to physicians that: PACEMAKER PATIENTS • Should keep wireless phones at least six inches from the pacemaker • Should NOTplace wireless phones directly over the pacemaker, such as in a breast pocket, when it is turned ON • Should use the wireless phone at the ear opposite the pacemaker WTR’s evaluation did not identify any risk to bystanders with pacemakers from other persons using wireless phones. Radio Frequency Exposure Information For AT&T 2230 LC (low cost) 2.4GHz Cordless Telephone Handset : Readings from test report : (1) Max. Output Power – Ant. A = 0.1W ; Ant. B = 0.08W (2) Duty cycle – 750us x10 / 100ms = 7.5% (measured in single slot transmission) Under the worst environment with interference, dual slot diversity gives the max. duty cycle on the handset Tx (ie. 7.5% x2 or 15%) Hence, taking the max. power output & max. duty cycle, the average effective output power is : 0.1W x 15% = 0.015W or 15mW Conclusion : The average effective output power is much lower than the 50mW level (Supplement C, Table 1) which starts to require SAR testing. Hence, there is no RF exposure concerns on handset. Base : Readings from test report : (1) Max. Output Power – 0.15W (2) Duty Cycle – 750us x15 / 100ms = 11.25% (with single handset & dummy carriers) The phone is a TDD, FHSS. So, the worst case is actually operating with 4 handsets (750us x40 / 100ms, or 30%). Hence, taking the worst case, the average effective output power is : 0.15W x 30% = 0.045W or 45mW Conclusion : The base of a cordless phone system is not normally operated close to the users as that of the handset.
