FCC ID: H8NWLL0010 ADT No.921113R02 Modular Approval Request Letter Advance Data Technology November 28, 2003 Dear Application Examiner, ASKEY COMPUTER CORP., It’s Wireless Lan Mini-Pci card, FCC ID: H8NWLL0010, would like to have your authorization as a limited modular approval specific to the mobile device such as Access Point. The requirements of Public Notice DA00-1407 have been met and shown on the following statements. 1. “The modular transmitter must have its own RF shielding.”: The radio portion of this module has been shielded, please see exhibition External Photo. 2. “The modular transmitter must have buffered modulation/data inputs.” The EUT has buffered data inputs, it is integrated in chip RTL8180. 3. “The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation.” The chips IF converter and RF/IF converter which will influence the frequency radiation, have to be 1.80V DC powered. The mini-pci interface provides 3.3VDC, so there are regulators in front of these chips, the part number of this regulator is XC6204B182MR. 4. “The modular transmitter must comply with the antenna requirements of section 15.203 and 15.204(C).” The EUT meets the FCC antenna requirements. The spurious emission, unique antenna connector and photo of antennas are shown in the test report. 5. “The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-alone configuration” The EUT was tested in a stand-alone configuration via a PCMCIA to mini-PCI extender. Please see section Photographs of Test Configuration in the test report, the EUT was plugged in this extender. 6. “The modular transmitter must be labeled with its own FCC ID number.” Please see exhibition Label Sample for the FCC ID of this module. And also in the exhibition Users Manual, there are instructions give to the OEM on how to label the end product. FCC ID: H8NWLL0010 ADT No.921113R02 7. “The modular transmitter must comply with any specific rule or operating requirements applicable to the transmitter and the manufacturer must provide adequate instructions along with the module to explain any such requirements.” The EUT is compliant with all applicable FCC rules. Detail instructions for maintaining compliance are given in the Users Manual. 8. “The modular transmitter must comply with any applicable RF exposure requirements.” The EUT is compliant with all applicable RF exposure requirements. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 December 3, 2003 RE: FCC ID: H8NWLL0010_ATCB000963 Attention: Ellis Wu I have a few comments on this Application. 1. FYI - Please note that your modular request letter states Limited Modular Approval. Please note that an LMA is for a specific host where the ID would be on the outside of the host. This is a modular approval application for use in mobile configurations. The modular approval letter should state modular approval not limited modular approval. x 2. Please note that the operational description and section 4.7.2 of the report states the antenna connectors are UFL. However, the schematics indicate that the connectors are SMB. Please explain and/or correct as necessary. 3. Please note that on pages 24 to 26 of the report you have listed frequencies that are not restricted band frequencies. Consequently it is not subject to the limits of 15.209 but to the -20dB from the peak of the fundamental. You have incorrectly compared these frequencies to the restricted band limits. As these frequencies are all at least 30dB below the fundamental average reading, please either report margins to the correct limits or please remove them from the list of measured frequencies. The frequencies of concern are page 24 – 9648 and 7236MHz; page 25 – 9748MHz; page 26 – 9848MHz. x 4. Please note that the installation manual must provide the OEM integrator with antenna installation instructions and transmitter operating conditions for satisfying RF exposure compliance.” This means that since this is a mobile only installation requiring a minimum of 20cm separation distance from the user when installed in the final host, while the final user manual only need state that the device meets the rf exposure requirements, the installer must be made aware of the separation distance condition. You have only informed the OEM integrator not to collocate the antenna. Please provide an installation manual that properly informs the OEM integrator that this is a mobile only device requiring 20cm separation. x 5. Please note that the suggested statement for the end user on rf exposure compliance is misleading. It indicates that the only factor involved in rf compliance is not to collocate the antenna. This is not accurate. Your suggested statement states, “To comply with FCC RF exposure compliance requirements. The antenna must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.” More importantly it is the separation distance that is required to meet rf exposure compliance. A more accurate statement that is not misleading needs to be provided to the end user. Operational Description

FCC ID: H8NWLL0010 ADT No.921113R02 Operational Description The modular is specified to be installed in Access Point is powered by host equipment. The antennas used in this product are Patch antenna and 1/4 Dipole antenna. There is UFL antenna connector. Under normal use condition, the user has to keep at least 20cm separation distance between radiator and the body of the user. The other instruction, please have a look at the users manual. DSSS Information This device is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum, the data is mixed by pseudorandom code which is an orthogonal code. The mixed data is digital modulated by BPSK and QPSK technique depends on the data rates. The CCK coding is applied for increasing the data rate, and also the processing gain will be increased. The bit rates are 1,2,5.5,11Mbps, the symbol rates are 1,1,1.375,1.375Mbps, the chip rates are always 11Mbps. So, the Chip/symbol is 11,11,8 and 8 respectively. Although is higher bit rate, the processing gain is lower than 10, but the CCK coding used in higher bit rate will provide 3dB coding gain.

Introduction In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) calibrated for antenna measurement in ADT, and also the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. Although the Friis transmission formula is a far field assumption, the calculated result of that is an over-prediction for near field power density. We will take that as the worst case to specify the safety range. 2.
