Date: Sep 17, 2010 Subject: Request for additional information regarding FCC ID: IHDP56LV1 Reference: Correspondence Reference Number: IHD101011 Confirmation Number: Y1008170977-80 Date of Original Email: Sep 10, 2010 Prepared by: Andrew Bachler, Principal Staff Engineer Motorola Mobile Device Business Libertyville, Illinois 60048 Questions and responses follow: 1. On Page 10 of the T-coil report, the frequency response of CDMA 800/1900 appears to touch the mask. Please confirm that frequency response at 3000Hz is under +2dB. Response: Please refer to the Supplement Response submitted online. 2. In the HAC RFE report, the DAE4 unit, serial number 387 shown in the test plots is not listed in the Dosimetric test equipment, Table 2 on page 4. If the DAE3 unit, serial number 387, is this unit, please revise. Response: Please refer to the revised RF HAC report submitted online. 3. Please ensure that all 3G SO/RC combinations were investigated in the test and update the conducted powers table and any subsequent HAC tables that may be affected to include this data. Response: Please refer to the Supplement Response submitted online. 1 4. The plots for CDMA 1900 E and H field, 1/8th rate vocoder do not have a common exclusion block as required for the use of three exclusion blocks per ANSI C63.19. Please address. Response: Please refer to the Supplement Response submitted online. 5. In the PCE test report, the captions underneath the plots on pg. 16/24 describe PCS band measurements, however, the plots actually show cellular band measurements. Conversely, the captions underneath the plots on pg. 18/24 describe cellular band measurements, but, the plots actually show PCS band measurements. Please fix the captions so that they accurately describe the measurements shown in the plots. Response: Please refer to the updated PCE report submitted online. 6. Please provide a more detailed theory of operation for the RF functionality of the WLAN transmitter in the operational description. Response: Please refer to the revised operational description submitted online. 7. The WLAN conducted powers in the SAR report for 802.11g and 802.11n modes are different than the WLAN conducted powers shown in the DTS report. Please reconcile. Response: Please refer to the revised SAR report submitted online. 8. FYI: In the DSS and DTS test reports, please place the marker on the highest out of band emission in the conducted band edge plots, which may not necessarily be right at the band edge. Response: Noted. 9. FYI: In the DTS test report, per ANSI C63.10, the power spectral density should be measured with a sweep time of 100 seconds, if using a RBW of 3kHz and a span of 300kHz. Please use the appropriate sweep time in the future. Response: Noted. 2 3 10. FYI: Since the out of band conducted emissions at the band edge did not meet the 30dBc limit in the DTS report, peak conducted powers will be listed on the grant. Response: Noted.

On page 12 of the SAR report, the DTS (WiFi) transmitter was only tested on the middle channel for the Left Head Cheek position. In accordance with FCC policy, please provide the SAR measurement in this configuration for the channel with the highest average conducted output power level (channel 11). Please use this value, in conjunction with the measured licensed transmitter SAR, to determine if simultaneous transmission SAR must be measured for this configuration. Of course, the SAR-to-peak location ratio may still eliminate the need for simultaneous transmission SAR measurements if it is less than 0.3. Response: Please refer to the revised SAR report. 2. The SAR report does not provide enough data to determine if the use of Battery SNN5875A requires simultaneous transmission SAR measurements: on p. 12 the max SAR levels are provided for the licensed transmitter for left cheek, and for WiFi (on the correct channel, in this case) for right cheek. Were these values to be added, the summation would exceed 1.6 W/kg. However, to be sure, please provide the max licensed transmitter SAR for right cheek and the max unlicensed transmitter SAR for the left cheek, so that the levels from each side of the head may be added to one another to determine if simultaneous transmission SAR is required for this battery usage. Of course, the SAR-to-peak location ratio may still eliminate the need for simultaneous transmission SAR measurements if it is less than 0.3. Response: Please refer to the revised SAR report. 3. Page 3 of the TCoil report mentions GSM and WCDMA. Please clarify. Response: The note on page 3 confirms the handset operates only on CDMA networks in the United States and US territories. FCC equipment authorization is not applicable for GSM & WCDMA operation. 2

Motorola stands ready to provide such information, as needed.” Based on Motorola’s statement regarding their direct communications with the FCC and the statement in the cover letter, PCTEST TCB issued the grants in question, with the understanding that the granted application would be audited by the FCC, and that Motorola would fully address the Hotspot capability at that time. Please update System Verification with Body System Check since the measurements were for Body SAR. Response: Based on available interim guidelines, this information is not available. 2. Please revise reports changing "body-worn" to another appropriate term. Response: Based on the available interim guidelines, Motorola Mobility used the term “body worn”. We will comply with new terminology in FCC filings upon release of the corresponding guidelines. 3. Please clarify which CDMA mode was used for testing. 3G procedures as a data device recommends EVDO Rev. 0. Response: Testing was performed to KDB 941225, so the CDMA and EVDO conducted power levels were measured. The CDMA conducted power levels were demonstrated to be representative of the device, so all testing was performed in the CDMA mode. The conducted power levels are presented in the attached revised SAR report. (Please also refer to to page 9 in the main SAR report.) 4. Page 23 mentions WCDMA 1900 but this device does not support WCDMA 1900. Please clarify. Response: Please refer to the updated supplemental SAR report. 5.
