Date: March 19, 2008 Subject: Request for additional information regarding FCC ID: IHDT56JJ1 Reference: Correspondence Reference Number: IHD80164 Confirmation Number: 803060164-6 Date of Original Email: March 17, 2008 Prepared by: Andrew Bachler, Principal Staff Engineer Motorola Mobile Device Business Libertyville, Illinois 60048 Questions and responses follow: 1. The application must comply with the FCC’s new Handset SAR requirements, released during the recent TCBC Workshop. It is not clear whether, in this application, simultaneous SAR measurements (BT and CDMA) are required, if stand-alone BT SAR measurements are required, or if the BT is exempt from SAR measurements altogether. Please submit an internal photo of the EUT, showing the location of the BT and CDMA antennas and the distance between them (both open and closed positions). Please compare the BT conducted output power to Pref (from the new requirements), and, in conjunction with the antenna separation distance, determine the level of SAR testing required for the BT transmitter. Please submit this information. Response: This device does allow simultaneous transmission between BT and CDMA. Because of the close proximity of the intentional and other unintentional radiating structures, stand-alone BT SAR measurements were performed in the configuration that resulted in the highest SAR during the stand-alone evaluation of the dominant transmitter. The SAR results from the BT and the CDMA measurements were summed together and shown to be less than the 1.6 W/kg (1g) SAR limit. Please refer to the revised SAR report attached. 2. If so required by the results to question #1 above (i.e., if simultaneous SAR is not required, based on antenna separation distance and output power), please remove all references to the BT from the SAR report and resubmit it. If stand-alone BT SAR testing is required, please include that data and the supporting information by which it has been obtained. Response: Please see updated SAR test report for additional BT SAR data. 1 2 3. Please resubmit the user’s manual, including the correct maximum SAR levels, based on the revised SAR report. Response: Please see updated SAR test report for revised summation SAR results. Please note, because of the extremely low BT SAR results, the highest SAR value, reported in the user manual, has not changed. 4. Please resubmit the block diagram, showing all clock/oscillator values, as required Response: Please refer to the revised Block Diagram attached showing clocks/oscillator values. 5. Page 5 of the Bluetooth report specifies that EDR mode is available to the EUT, but the test report data does not reflect this. Please submit 20 dBc BW plots and bandedge plots in EDR mode, and confirm that the maximum Bluetooth output power listed in the report is correct. Response: The Bluetooth transmitter in this device does not support Bluetooth Version 2.0+EDR, therefore the maximum output power listed in the report is for Bluetooth 2.0 only. 6. Please submit an Operational Description (technical description) of the Bluetooth transmitter. Response: Please refer to page 10 of the Operational Description attached for the Bluetooth transmitter and a supplement file showing function controls. 7. Please include updated HAC test procedure on Page 8, Exhibit 6B-1 per the test photographs. Response: Please refer to the updated HAC report attached.

From: LI LILLIAN-WNCK38 Sent: Thursday, March 20, 2008 3:48 PM Subject: RE: Follow-Up Questions Regarding FCC ID: IHDT56JJ1 Hi Greg again, Thanks for your quick Follow-up RT on this product FCC ID: IHDT56JJ1. Please find our new response to Q1 below and attached is a revised exhibit in response to Q2. The FCC grants for this product are also very criticalto us right now, your speedy review and approval are highly appreciated! Thanks a lot! From: PCTEST TCB [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, March 20, 2008 11:17 AM Subject: Follow-Up Questions Regarding FCC ID: IHDT56JJ1 DearAndy, Thank you for your response to the referenced application. Please see below follow- up question pertaining to your submittal. Follow-Up RT: 1. Thank you for your response. Please submit an internal photo of the EUT, as requested, identifying the BT and CDMA antennas and showing their locations and the distance(s) between them. In the future, please refer to this distance and the measured Bluetooth output power level, as compared to Pref, in order to arrive at the level of SAR testing required for the BT transmitter. Response: Per the March 20, 2008 discussion with the examining engineer; Motorola chooses to use the summation method for evaluation of simultaneous transmitters. Photographs, measured distances, and power output levels to determine the "antenna pair SAR to antenna separation ration" are therefore not required. 2. The user’s manual lists an incorrect maximum body SAR level. Please revise, and resubmit the manual. Response: Please refer to the revised user manual attached. The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Introduction The Motorola Mobile Devices Business Product Safety Laboratory has performed measurements of the maximum potential exposure to the user of the portable cellular phone covered by this test report. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of this product was measured. The portable cellular phone was tested in accordance with [1], [4] and [5]. The SAR values measured for the portable cellular phone are below the maximum recommended levels of 1.6 W/kg in a 1g average set in [3] and 2.0W/kg in a 10g average set in [2]. For ANSI / IEEE C95.1 (1g), the final SAR reading for this phone is 1.45 W/kg for head adjacent use and 0.69 W/kg for body worn use. These measurements were performed using a Dasy4™ v4.7 system manufactured by Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG), of Zurich Switzerland. 2. Power output listed is ERP for Part 22 and EIRP for Part 24. SAR compliance for body-worn operation is based on a separation distance of 2.5 cm between the unit and the body of the user. End-users must be informed of the body-worn operating requirements for satisfying RF exposure compliance. Belt clips or holsters not listed in this filing may not contain metallic components. The highest reported SAR values are: Part 22 - Head: 1.45 W/kg; Body-worn: 0.69 W/kg; Part 24 - Head: 0.63 W/kg; Body-worn: 0.73 W/kg. HAC Rating: M4 T4
