Introduction This section of your manual describes the assembly and installation of the Motorola Attache. The Motorola Attache is a lightweight, three-watt unit that is powered by your vehicle’s electrical system through the cigarette lighter socket. This phone is completely self-contained, and may be moved easily between your personal car(s), a company truck or car, or a rental car because it requires no complex wiring installation within the vehicle. The unit is installed in the vehicle by simply securing it to a spare seat with a lap belt and plugging it into the vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket. For further information about the features and capabilities of your cellular telephone, see the accompanying user manual. Installation Manual 1 Figure 1 Attache Models Two Attache models are offered. The standard version is powered by your vehicle’s electrical system and does not come equipped with a battery. 1 1 October 22, 1999 SAR Test Report for Motorola the 800 MHz mobile cellular phone (FCC ID IHDT5ZX1). Prepared by: Paul Moller, Principal Staff Engineer Motorola Personal Communications Sector Product Safety Laboratory Libertyville, Illinois The Motorola Personal Communications Sector Product Safety Laboratory has evaluated the 800 MHz mobile cellular phone, FCC ID IHDT5ZX1, for the need to conduct SAR evaluation. Due to the design and installation of this product, it is not possible to conduct SAR evaluation. This is because Motorola neither manufactures or supplies the antenna(s) that will be used in the installation of this product. Therefore, this product will be evaluated as a mobile device per 47 CFR §1.1310 titled “Radiofrequency radiation exposure limits”, generally referred to as MPE limits. In 47 CFR § 2.1091, paragraph (b) defines a mobile device as “a transmitting device designed to be used in other than fixed locations and to generally be used in such a way that a separation distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitter’s radiating structure(s) and the body of the user or nearby persons.” The 800 MHz mobile cellular phone is intended to be installed into a vehicle such that the unit is physically secured at one location. In the installation guide supplied with the product, Motorola has made the following statement: “IMPORTANT: To meet the FCC’s RF Exposure Guidelines, the antenna should be installed so there is at least 30 cm of separation between the body of the user and nearby persons and the antenna”. Based on the installation of the transceiver and the antenna, the transmitters radiating structure is more than 30 centimeters from the user. Thus, the 800 MHz mobile cellular phone is a “mobile device” as defined in section § 2.1091 paragraph (b). Table 1 (B) of 47 CFR §1.1310 lists the limits for MPE for the General Population. Since the mobile cellular phone operates in the 800 MHz cellular band, the listed limit of f/1500 applies. The lowest transmit frequency for this product is 824.04 MHz, resulting in a lowest MPE of 0.549 mW/cm 2 . Since Motorola neither manufactures or supplies the antenna(s) that will be used in the installation of this product, it is not possible to measure the MPE of the actual device as it is installed per the installation manual. Therefore a calculation of MPE will be described in the next paragraph. The MPE of a radiating structure can be calculated by knowing the transmit EIRP and the distance at which MPE is being calculated. In this case MPE will be calculated at 30 cm, which is the minimum separation between the body of the user and nearby persons and the antenna. The maximum transmit power for the 800 MHz mobile cellular phone is 3.8 Watts. When installed using a combined cable loss and antenna gain of a maximum of 1.2 dBi, the maximum EIRP will be 5.0 Watts. The model used for calculating power density in OET Bulletin 65, Edition 97-01, is the spherical model. Using this spherical model, 0.549mW/cm2 is achieved at a distance of 27cm from the antenna. Therefore, by requiring the user and nearby persons to remain at least 30cm from the antenna, the MPE is not exceeded. 2 2 A picture of the 800 MHz mobile cellular phone is shown in figure 1 below. Figure 1, Side View.
1 1 December 27, 1999 SAR Test Report for Motorola the 800 MHz mobile cellular phone (FCC ID IHDT5ZX1). Prepared by: Paul Moller, Principal Staff Engineer Motorola Personal Communications Sector Product Safety Laboratory Libertyville, Illinois 1. Introduction The Motorola Florida Research Laboratory has performed measurements of the maximum potential exposure to the user of portable cellular Carry phone FCC ID IHDT5ZX1. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of this product was measured. This report details the test setup and equipment as well as the results of those tests. 2. Applicable Regulations Federal Communications Commission rule §2.1093(d)(2), the ANSI/IEEE C95.1 1992 and the NCRP Report Number 86 specify the maximum exposure limit of 1.6 W/kg as averaged over any 1 gram of tissue for portable devices being used within 20cm of the user in the uncontrolled environment. 3. Description of Test Sample A prototype unit serial number FC71AD19 was measured. This unit is identical in physical construction, maximum radiated power levels and antenna structure to units that will be in production. It transmits in the frequency range of 824 to 849 MHz using AMPS mode. The unit was tested at its maximum transmitter power. The unit is equipped with a fixed antenna that serves as both a receive and transmit antenna. Figures 1 and 2 show the unit with its cover closed and open respectively. Normal operation of this unit is with the cover either closed or open. However, it would typically be carried with the cover closed. The unit was tested with the cover closed. The unit was placed under a flat phantom, with the antenna extending parallel to the bottom of the phantom for maximum coupling. Figure 3 shows a picture of the unit and antenna under the flat phantom. For the purposes of these tests, the distance between the antenna and the flat phantom is kept constant at 7 cm. The maximum SAR level for the Motorola portable cellular phone (FCC ID IHDT5ZX1) in the 800MHz Analog band is 1.24 W/kg in this test condition. A full data set output of the test condition with the highest SAR values from the Dasy measurement system is included as appendix A. The test condition included is indicated as a bold number in the following table. All other test conditions measured lower SAR values than those included. 2 2 800 MHz Analog Channel SAR (W/kg) Conducted Power (W) 991 1.24 3.52 385 0.93 3.45 799 0.69 2.14 In the Cellular Mobile/Carry Phone Users Guide supplied with the product, Motorola has made the following statement: “IMPORTANT: To meet the FCC’s RF Exposure Guidelines, the Carry Phone should be used so there is at least 10 cm of separation between the body of the user and nearby persons and the antenna.” At 10 cm the SAR values will be lower than the SAR values measured at 7cm. Therefore, the SAR values for the cellular carry phone (FCC ID IHDT5ZX1) are below the maximum recommended levels of 1.6 W/kg. 3 3 Figure 1, Cover Closed.
