FCC ID: IOU1021S01 Date: June, 06, 2002 Modular Approval Request Letter To whom it may concern, The EUT would like to be authorized as modular approval. The following table shows the EUT meets eight criteria of FCC Public Notice DA 00-1407. Yours sincerely, Requirement of Public Notice DA00-1407 Reference to 1. The modular transmitter must have its own RF shielding. The module has its own RF shielding. Please see external photo. (ExtPho.pdf) 2. The modular transmitter must have buffered modulation/ data inputs. The module has buffered data inputs, it is integrated in chip ACX100. Please see schematics. (Schem.pdf) 3. The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation. There are regulators in the DC input port, the parts number are both TPS793285. Please see the Block diagram. (BlkDia.pdf) 4. The modular transmitter must comply with the antenna requirements of Section 15.203 and 15.204(c). The EUT meets the FCC antenna requirements. The spurious emission, unique antenna connector and photo of antennas are shown in the test report. 5. The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-alone configuration, i.e., the module must not be inside another device during testing. The EUT was tested in a stand-alone configuration via a PCMCIA extender. Please see test photos. (TSup.pdf) 6. The modular transmitter must be labeled with its own FCC ID number, and, if the FCC ID is not visible when the module is installed inside another device, then the outside of the device into which the module is installed must also display a label referring to the enclosed module. The label position of EUT is clearly indicated. Please see the label drawing. LabelSmpl & LabelLoc.pdf 7. The modular transmitter must comply with any specific rule or operating requirements applicable to the transmitter and the manufacturer must provide adequate instructions along with the module to explain any such requirements. A copy of these instructions must be included in the application for equipment authorization. The EUT is compliant with all applicable FCC rules Detail instructios are given in the Users Manual. 8. The modular transmitter must comply with any applicable RF exposure requirements. For example, FCC Rules in Sections 2.1091, 2.1093 and specific Sections of Part 15, including 15.319(i), 15.407(f), 15.253(f) and 15.255(g), require that Unlicensed PCS, UNII and millimeter wave devices perform routine environmental evaluation for RF Exposure to demonstrate compliance. In addition, spread spectrum transmitters operating under Section 15.247 are required to address RF Exposure compliance in accordance with Section 15.247(b)(4). The EUT is compliant with all applicable RF exposure requirements. RF Exposure is addressed in the test report.

Operational Description

FCC ID: IOU1021S01 Operational Description The transmitter of the EUT (2.4GHz WLAN PCMCIA Adapter) is powered by PCI interface. The antenna is PIFA Antenna, and the antenna connector type is UFL. Under normal use condition, the user has to keep at least 20cm separation distance between radiator and the body of the user. The other instruction, please have a look at the users manual. DSSS Information This device is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum, the data is mixed by pseudorandom code which is an orthogonal code. The mixed data is digital modulated by BPSK and QPSK technique depends on the data rates. The CCK coding is applied for increasing the data rate, and also the processing gain will be increased. It is capable of processing packets that are encording to IEEE Std 802.11 and IEEE Std 802.11b high-rate extension ( 1- and 2-Mbit/s Barker, 5.5- and 11-Mbit/s CCK and PBCC). The bit rates are 1,2,5.5,11Mbps in the Barker and CCK encoder mode, the symbol rates are 1,1,1.375,1.375Mbps. The bit rates are 5.5, 11 and 22Mbps in the PBCC encoder mode, the symbol rate is 0.6875Mbps. The chip rates are always 11Mbps. So, the Chip/symbol is 11,11,8 and 8 respectively. Although is higher bit rate, the processing gain is lower than 10, but the CCK and PBCC coding used in higher bit rate will provide 2.2dB coding gain.
