Users Manual

1 Install antenna as shown. Securely tighten screw. Slide antenna insulator grommet down to engage with hole on top of case. NOTE: If an antenna other than that supplied is used, it must have a antenna gain of 6 dBi or less in order to comply with the RF exposure warning. Refer to the antenna manufacturer specifications for details. WARNING: DO NOT APPLY POWER TO UNIT UNTIL ANTENNA IS INSTALLED! DAMAGE WILL OCCUR! 2 Apply 12VDC to screw terminals labeled “-“and “+”. Power supply must be able to handle a 3 AMP load. AP1 Installation Instructions 3 Wait 1 minute after power-up, then observe the Coverage LED. The LED will blink a number of times to indicate the network signal strength, as follows: # BLINK COVERAGE # BLINK COVERAGE 9 95% 4 70% 8 90% 3 65% 7 85% 2 60% 6 80% 1 55% 5 75% 0 50% CONSTANT RAPID BLINKING = NETWORK HAS ISSUED A SHUTDOWN COMMAND – CONTACT PROVIDER. Permanently mount the unit in a fixed, indoor location which provides at least 65% coverage. Always mount the unit at least 2 feet away from large metal objects and human beings. 4 Press the manual test button to send test signal to the Network. The coverage LED will blink rapidly for 3 seconds while the test signal is bein g sent. Confirm reception of signal with provider. 5 Trigger input channels. All input channels have an integration delay of 1 second. Default trigger method is voltage (5 to 15VDC). To change channels 1 to 4 trigger method to “Electronic Pull-to-Ground”, cut resistors R1 to R4, respectively. The coverage LED will blink rapidly for 3 seconds while the channel trigger signal is being sent. Confirm reception of signal with provider. 1 3 4 2 5 WARNING: To ensure user's safety and to satisfy FCC RF exposure requirements, this unit must be installed, so that a minimum separation distance of 34 cm is always maintained between the antenna of the transmitting device and nearby persons. Operation at closer than this distance is not recommended.

Method of Measurements Refer to FCC @ 1.1310, 2.1091 and Public Notice DA 00-705 (March 30, 2000) • In order to demonstrate compliance with MPE requirements (see Section 2.1091), the following information is typically needed: (1) Calculation that estimates the minimum separation distance (20 cm or more) between an antenna and persons required to satisfy power density limits defined for free space. (2) Antenna installation and device operating instructions for installers (professional/unskilled users), and the parties responsible for ensuring compliance with the RF exposure requirement (3) Any caution statements and/or warning labels that are necessary in order to comply with the exposure limits (4) Any other RF exposure related issues that may affect MPE compliance FCC PARTS 2 & 90, SUBPART I, NON-BROADCAST RADIO TRANSCEIVERS Page 11 Radio Modem, Model AP-1M FCC ID: ITC-AP-1 ULTRATECH GROUP OF LABS File #: CRN02_90 3000 Bristol Circle, Oakville, Ontario, Canada L6H 6G4 June 19, 2001 Tel. #: 905-829-1570, Fax. #: 905-829-8050, Email: [email protected] , Website: http://www.ultratech-labs.com • Assessed by ITI (UK) Competent Body, NVLAP (USA) Accreditation Body & ACA/AUSTEL (Australia), VCCI (Japan) • Accredited by Industry Canada (Canada) under ACC-LAB (Europe/Canada MRA and APEC/Canada MRA) • Recognized/Listed by FCC (USA ) • All test results contained in this engineering test report are traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST Calculation Method of RF Safety Distance : S = PG/4Πr 2 Where: P: power input to the antenna in mW EIRP: Equivalent (effective) isotropic radiated power. S: power density mW/cm 2 G: numeric gain of antenna relative to isotropic radiator r: distance to centre of radiation in cm r = PG/4ΠS FCC radio frequency exposure limits may not be exceeded at distances closer than r cm from the antenna of this device Calculation Example using a 6 dBi antenna gain For General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure, Power Density (S) = F/1500 mW/cm 2 For the operating frequency range of 806-821 MHz for this device, F = lowest operating frequency of 806 MHz, therefore Power Density (S) = 806/1500 = 0.537 mW/cm 2 P = 32.7 dBm = 1862.088 mW G = 6 dBi = 10 (6/10) = 3.98 numeric S = 0.537 mW/cm 2 Since r = PG/4ΠS Then r = 1862.088 mW x 3.98 numeric / 4 x Π x S = 34 cm Therefore, the minimum separation distance of 34 cm (with antenna gain equal to or less than 6 dBi) is necessary to comply with RF Exposure requirements. The following RF exposure warning statement will be placed in the installation manual. RF Exposure Warning: To ensure user’s safety and to satisfy RF exposure requirements, this unit must be installed so that a minimum separation distance of 34 cm is always maintained between the antenna of the transmitting device and the body of nearby persons. Operations at closer than this distance is not recommended.
