Audio-Technica Model ESW-R220/210 and T211/T214 UHF Wireless Microphone System User Information DRAFT Introduction Thank you for purchasing the ESW series wireless microphone system. It is our hope that the system will bring you years of trouble free pleasure and performance. Please follow the information contained in this manual closely as it will assist you in using your equipment effectively. Part 1. Regulatory Requeirements FCC PART 15 COMPLIANCE STATEMENT CANADA RSS-210 COMPLIANCE STATEMENT β€œThis device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the condition that this device does not cause harmful interference.” β€œThis device complies with INDUSTRY CANADA R.S.S.210, en conformite avec IC:RSS-210/CNR210. Operation is subject to the following conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference which may cause undesired operation.” Please not that your ESW Series system operates in a frequency band and in a way which makes is use subject to certain FCC and other regulatory restrictions and licensing requirements. For further information, please contact your local office of the FCC as applicable. Part 2. Using the ESW-T211 Beltpack Transmitter The beltpack transmitter operates on 2 β€œAA” size batteries. Please make sure that your batteries are fresh. We recommend that you use Alkaline batteries and that you avoid using NiCad if possible. Insert batteries into the battery compartment and slide the battery compartment back into place. Open the rubber cover over the channels selector switch and set the group and channel to the corresponding channels as set on the receiver. Replaces the cover over the rotary switches. Connect your microphone or guitar cables to the connector on the top sides of the transmitter. If you want the low cut to be on, switch this in. Turn the transmitter switch to the on position. Confirm that the receiver is receiving RF and that the audio is passing through the receiver. You are now set to use the system. Part 3. Using the ESW-T214 Handheld Transmitter The handheld transmitter operates on 2 β€œAA” size batteries. Please make sure that your batteries are fresh. We recommend that you use Alkaline batteries and that you avoid using NiCad if possible. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment and slide the battery compartment cover back into place. To change the channel of operation, unscrew the battery compartment cover and pull the cover back. Locate the channel selector rotary switches. Set the group and channel to the corresponding channel as set on the receiver. Replace the cover over the rotary switches. Turn the transmitter switch to the on position. Confirm that the receiver is receiving RF. Speak directly into the microphone and confirm that audio is passing through the receiver. You are now set to use the system. Part 4. Using the ESW-R210/R220 Receiver The ESW-R210/R220 receivers operate on a 110 VAC plug. Plug the unit into an AC outlet. Push the on/off switch. Confirm that the LED comes on. Check the group and channel setting to confirm that they correspond to the settings of the transmitter. Connect the balanced or unbalanced audio output to your mixer PA system. Adjust the volume setting to the desired level. Speak into the microphone and listen to the audio out at the speaker. If satisfied with the audio quality, you can use the system. Operational Description

APPENDIX 3 CIRCUIT TO SUPPRESS SPURIOUS RADIATION AND CONTROL MODULATION AUDIO CIRCUIT The audio signal is injected via the microphone element into the audio circuit composed of the op amp IC1, UPC4572 & compandor IC3, SA575. The signal is compressed via the compandor circuit at a 2:1 ratio and is pre-emphasized. The level of the output signal is controlled by the pot VR1 which is injected into the VCO, VCO1. MODULATOR CIRCUIT The modulator circuit is a direct FM type built around the VCO, VCO1. The modulated output from the VCO is sent to the RF pre-amp and RF final amplifier which boosts the output to a nominal level of 10mW. RF PRE- AMPLIFIER & FINAL AMPLIFIER The 2 transistor amplifier stages, using 2SC4226 type transistors, culminating with a normal transmitter output of 10mW. The output filter comprised of L6, L7, TC1,C80, & C82 suppresses the output harmonics and matches the output to the antenna. Supply 3V from DC power supply to the power supply terminal of T214 3. Connect BNC-P coaxial RF cable with input connector of Spectrum analyzer. 4. Connect BNC-P coaxial RF cable to J1 terminal of T214. 5. Set T214 to channel β€œ50”. 6. Set the center frequency of Spectrum analyzer to oscillation frequency of T214. And set frequency span to 200KHz. 7. Turn the power switch of T214(SW2) on, and set the SW5 on T214 to β€œHi” 8. Make sure that RF signal appears on Spectrum analyzer. 9. Set the RF signal on Spectr um analyzer to a desired Oscillating frequency by turning the TC2 on T214. 10. Set the RF signal on Spectrum analyzer to its maximum level by turning the TC1 on T214. 11. Remove the BNC-P coaxial RF cable from the input connector of Spectrum analyzer, and connect it to the RF power meter. 12. Make sure that the RF power sensor and RF power meter are connected together. 13. Adjust the RF output power to 10mW by turning the VR3 on T214. 14. Set the SW5 on T214 to β€œLow”. 15. Make sure that the RF output power to 5mW. 16. Make sure that on both channel β€œ00” and β€œ99”, the RF out put power stays over 10mW when Sw5 of T214 is on β€œHI” and that it stays 5mW when SW5 of T214 is on β€œLOW” 17. Input the –62dBV at 1kHz signal from Audio signal generator to the AF input of T214 by checking the level of the signal on AC milli voltmeter. 18. Remove the BNC-P Coaxial RF cable from RF power meter, then connect it with the input connector of Modulation Meter (FM linear detector). 19. Set T214 to channel β€œ50” and set the frequency range of the Modulation meter (FM linear detector) to the oscillation frequency of T214 20. Make sure that Oscilloscope has no irregular wave. Then, adjust the indicator of Modulation meter (FM linear detector) to Β±5KHz by turning VR1 on T214 21. Set T214 to channel β€œ00” and β€œ90”. Make sure that Deviation of the each cannel stays 5KHz/1kHz. 22. Remove the BNC-P coaxial RF cable from Modulation meter (FM linear detector) then connect it with input connector of the Spectrum Analyzer. 23. Set T214 to channel β€œ50” and make terminal (+) and terminal (-) of AF input short circuit. 24. Set the Frequency span of Spectrum analyzer to 200KHz. 25. Make sure that the tone level on Spectrum analyzer 30dB lower than main RF signal. 26. Set the center frequency of Spectrum analyzer to β€œ1.8GHz”. Set the frequency span to β€œ3.5GHz”. 27. Make sure spurious level on Spectrum analyzer stays 30dB lower than main RF signal level

ENGINEERING STATEMENT For Type Certification of AUDIO TECHNICA CORPORATION Model: ESW-T214 FCC ID: JFZT214 I am an Electronics Engineer, a principal in the firm of Hyak Laboratories, Inc., Springfield, Virginia. My education and experience are a matter of record with the Federal Communications Commission. Hyak Laboratories, Inc. has been retained by Audio-Technica US, Inc., to make type certification measurements on the ESW-T214 transmitter. These tests made by me or under my supervision in our Springfield laboratory. Test data required by the FCC for type certification are included in this report. It is submitted that the above mentioned transmitter meets FCC requirements and type certification is requested. ______________________________ Rowland S. Johnson Dated: September 6, 2000 A. INTRODUCTION The following data are submitted in connection with this request for type certification of the ESW-T214 transmitter in accordance with Part 2, Subpart J of the FCC Rules. The ESW-T214 is a 10 milliwatt, UHF, frequency modulated, synthesized, battery operated transmitter configured as a hand- held microphone for wireless microphone applications under Part 74. B. GENERAL INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR TYPE CERTIFICATION (Paragraph 2.983 of the Rules) 1. Name of applicant: Audio Technica Corporation. 2. Identification of equipment: FCC ID: JFZT214 a. The equipment identification label is included as a separate exhibit. b. Photographs of the equipment are included as a separate exhibit. 3. Quantity production is planned. 4. Technical description: a. Emission 81k6F3E b. Frequency range: 728 - 741 MHz. c. Operating power of transmitter is fixed at the factory at 10 mW. d. Data for 2.985 through 2.997 follow this section. 6. RF_Power_Output (Paragraph 2.987(a) of the Rules) The device has an integral antenna. RF output power was calculated as 10 mW in Table 1. NOTE: All audio measurements were made hard-wired using the mike input connector. C. MODULATION CHARACTERISTICS 1. A curve showing frequency response of the transmitter is shown in Figure 1. Reference level was a 1 kHz au- dio signal at 10 kHz deviation. A Boonton 8220 modula- tion meter was used to measure deviation. Audio output was measured from an Audio Precision System One integrated measurement system. 2. Under Section 74.861 no modulation limiting is required. 3. Occupied_Bandwidth (Paragraphs 2.989(c), and 74.861(6) of the Rules) Figure 2 is a plot of the sideband envelope of the transmitter taken with a Tektronix 494P spectrum analyzer. Modulation consisted of a 15.8 kHz tone, the frequency of maximum response, at an input level 16 dB greater than that necessary to produce 50% modulation. NOTE: Audio bandwidth is 15.8 kHz, and maximum system deviation (input) is 25 kHz. Using 2D+2F = modulation factor. SPURIOUS EMISSIONS AT THE ANTENNA TERMINALS (Paragraph 2.991 of the Rules) NOT APPLICABLE, INTEGRAL ANTENNA. E. DESCRIPTION OF RADIATED SPURIOUS MEASUREMENT FACILITIES A description of the Hyak Laboratories’ radiation test facility is a matter of record with the FCC. The facility meets ANSI 63.4-1992 and was accepted for radiation measurements from 25 to 1000 MHz on October 1, 1976 and is currently listed as an accepted site. 6 F. FIELD STRENGTH MEASUREMENTS OF SPURIOUS RADIATION Field intensity measurements of radiated spurious emissions from the ESW-T214 were made with a Tektronix 494P spectrum ana- lyzer using Singer DM-105A calibrated dipole antennas below 1 GHz, and Polarad CA-L, and CA-S or EMCO 3115 from 1-8.0 GHz. The transmitter was located in an open field 3 meters from the test antenna. Supply was a set of fresh batteries. The transmitter and test antennas were arranged to maximize pickup. Both vertical and horizontal test antennae polarization were employed. Reference level for the spurious radiation was taken as the carrier level. The measurement system was capable of detecting signals 95 dB or more below the reference level. Measurements were made from the lowest frequency generated within the unit to 10 times operating frequency. FREQUENCY STABILITY (Paragraph 2.995(2) and 90.213 of the Rules) Measurement of frequency stability versus temperature was made at temperatures from -0 o C to +50 o C. At each temperature, the unit was exposed to test chamber ambient a minimum of 60 minutes after indicated chamber temperature ambient had stabi- lized to within Β±2Β° of the desired test temperature. Following the 1 hour soak at each temperature, the unit was turned on, keyed and frequency measured within 2 minutes. Test temperature was sequenced in the order shown in Table 2, starting with -0Β°C. A Thermotron S1.2 temperature chamber was used. Temperature was monitored with a Keithley 871 digital temperature probe. The transmitter output stage was terminated in a 50 ohm dummy load. Primary supply was 3 Vdc. Frequency was measured with a HP5385A digital frequency counter connected to the transmitter through a power attenuator.
