EON Corporation 2003 EON VIU User Installation Guide The EON Vending Information Unit (VIU) comes fully assembled and ready for operation. The user only needs to attach the unit to the interior of the vending machine per the instructions below. No programming or adjustments to the unit are required from the user. Elements of the fully assembled VIU include: Housing The modem is packaged in a labeled metal box. There are four LEDs, a password store button, serial connector, and DEX input, visible from the outside. There is a power cable that connects to the vending machine's outlet, so no cutting or splicing for installation is required. Radio Attached to the housing is a fixed frequency fm radio transmitter. The radio is connected to the controller board via a serial cable. The radio has a male bnc connector mounted aside the serial connector to allow connection to the antenna. Power Adapter Powering the unit is a UL approved DC power adapter. The adapter's output rating is +12VDC/1.25A. The adapter's input rating is 100~120V~: 60Hz, 0.45A. The unit plugs directly into the housing. Antenna The antenna is a 50-Ohm, "whip" style, ¾ wave, with a bnc connector. Connections The Dex cable has connectors for Dex ports on both the VIU housing and the vending machine. VIU Installation: Connect the Dex cable to its respective ports in both the vending machine and VIU housing. Firmly attach the housing unit to a secure location inside the vending machine using the heavy-duty adhesive Velcro strip. EON Corporation 2003 Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacture could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. The VIU antenna must be installed in the vending machine in a location that will provide a separation distance of at least 71 centimeters from the user of the machine or nearby persons. Once the housing is physically installed in the vending machine, it must be initialized (powered up) with the door to the vending machine open and with the password button depressed. This is accomplished by simply plugging the DC power adapter into the vending machines standard 110V outlet. This allows the VIU to retrieve the password from the vending machine controller board. To verify that installation has been properly completed, watch for the red transmit light to flash once, and all lights to turn down except the yellow LED. At this point the installation is complete. If this light sequence is not observed, repeat the installation steps. If all steps are deemed to be completed successfully and the correct light flashing sequence is still not observed, remove the VIU from the vending machine and return to EON for service or repair. Document 7797-MPE, Rev. 0 FCC ID: JLM-E1000V RF Exposure Test Report Washington Laboratories, Ltd December 2003 Maximum Permissible Exposure Test Report for EON Corporation Vending Information Unit (VIU) FCC ID: JLM-E1000V December 3, 2003 WLL PROJECT #: 7797 This report may not be reproduced, except in full, without the prior written consent of Washington Laboratories, Ltd. RF Exposure Test Report Document 7797-MPE, Rev. 0 FCC ID: JLM-E1000V RF Exposure Test Report Washington Laboratories, Ltd December 2003 1 Maximum Permissible Exposure Test Report for FCC ID: JLM-E1000V 1.0 Introduction This report has been prepared on behalf of EON Corporation Transmitter to show compliance with the RF exposure requirements as defined in FCC §1.1307. 1.1 Requirements Three different categories of transmitters are defined by the FCC in OET Bulletin 65. These categories are fixed installation, mobile, and portable and are defined as follows: ß Fixed Installations: fixed location means that the device, including its antenna, is physically secured at a permanent location and is not able to be easily moved to another location. Additionally, distance to humans from the antenna is maintained to at least 2 meters. ß Mobile Devices: a mobile device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used in other than fixed locations and to be generally used in such a way that a separation distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitter's radiating structures and the body of the user or nearby persons. Transmitters designed to be used by consumers or workers that can be easily re-located, such as a wireless modem operating in a laptop computer, are considered mobile devices if they meet the 20 centimeter separation requirement. The FCC rules for evaluating mobile devices for RF compliance are found in 47 CFR §2.1091. ß Portable Devices: a portable device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used so that the radiating structure(s) of the device is/are within 20 centimeters of the body of the user. Portable device requirements are found in Section 2.1093 of the FCC's Rules (47 CFR§2.1093). For this test report the EON Corporation VIU is classified as a fixed installation. The FCC also categorizes the use of the device as based upon the user’s awareness and ability to exercise control over his or her exposure. The two categories defined are Document 7797-MPE, Rev. 0 FCC ID: JLM-E1000V RF Exposure Test Report Washington Laboratories, Ltd December 2003 2 Occupational/Controlled Exposure and General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure. These two categories are defined as follows: ß Occupational/Controlled Exposure: In general, occupational/controlled exposure limits are applicable to situations in which persons are exposed as a consequence of their employment, who have been made fully aware of the potential for exposure and can exercise control over their exposure. This exposure category is also applicable when the exposure is of a transient nature due to incidental passage through a location where the exposure levels may be higher than the general population/uncontrolled limits, but the exposed person is fully aware of the potential for exposure and can exercise control over his or her exposure by leaving the area or by some other appropriate means. Awareness of the potential for RF exposure in a workplace or similar environment can be provided through specific training as part of a RF safety program. If appropriate, warning signs and labels can also be used to establish such awareness by providing prominent information on the risk of potential exposure and instructions on methods to minimize such exposure risks. ß General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure: The general population / uncontrolled exposure limits are applicable to situations in which the general public may be exposed or in which persons who are exposed as a consequence of their employment may not be made fully aware of the potential for exposure or cannot exercise control over their exposure. Members of the general public would come under this category when exposure is not employment-related; for example, in the case of a wireless transmitter that exposes persons in its vicinity. Warning labels placed on low-power consumer devices such as cellular telephones are not considered sufficient to allow the device to be considered under the occupational/controlled category, and the general population/uncontrolled exposure limits apply to these devices. Since there are no warnings or training associated with this unit concerning RF Exposure, the EON Corporation VIU is evaluated to the General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure limits. 1.2 Radio Frequency Radiation Exposure Evaluation The highest RF output power of the unit was measured at 35.83dBm at 218.262MHz. According to §1.1310 of the FCC rules, the power density limit for General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure in this frequency range is 0.2mW/cm 2 . To comply with the exposure limits for this section, individuals must maintain a safe distance from the transmit antenna. The following formula was used to calculate the minimum safe distance: 2 4R PG S π = Where: S = Power Density P = Output Power at the Antenna Terminals Document 7797-MPE, Rev. 0 FCC ID: JLM-E1000V RF Exposure Test Report Washington Laboratories, Ltd December 2003 3 G = Gain of Transmit Antenna (linear gain) R = Distance from Transmitting Antenna For this device, the calculation is as follows: S = FCC Limit = 0.2mW/cm 2 P = Output Power = 35.83 dBm = 3.83 W G = Worst Case Gain = 3 dBd = 5.15 dBi = INVLOG(32.6/10) = 3.27 Solving for the required minimum safe distance using the following formula: S PG R π4 = 2.04 27.33830 ×× × = π R = 70.6 cm (Based on continuous transmission) Based on the calculation above, the minimum safe distance for this device is 70.6cm. The manufacturer must ensure that the antenna is mounted in a fashion that ensures it will remain at least 70.6 cm from people.
