American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 August 18, 2002 RE: Logitech Far East Ltd. FCC ID: JNZ221613 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The block diagram should show the frequency of all oscillators in the transmitter portion of the device (CFR 2.1033(a)(5)). Please provide a corrected copy. 2) Based on information given by the FCC, (see attachment), it is our understanding that this submittal will need to be separated into 2 independent submittals, one for the joystick, the other for the USB transceiver. Please let us know how you wish for us to handle this submittal (i.e., should this application be for the joystick or the USB transceiver). We are going ahead and proofing all information supplied assuming the device being certified is the joystick portion. The remaining questions assume that that this submittal will be for the joystick portion of the system. 3) Please provide a cover letter stating the device being certified in this application is the joystick portion only, and to ignore any information given related to the USB transceiver portion. 4) The schematics appear to be of the main portion of the joystick. However, schematics were not provided for the RF TX circuitry. Please provide the missing schematics. 5) The internal photographs show an antenna labeled as “ANT2”. Where is antenna 1? 6) Please provide an updated RF exposure exhibit for the Joystick portion only. 7) Please show compliance at the bandedge, given the frequency hopping transients at the bandedge, as can be seen in the plots given on page 20 of the test report. 8) This device shall use a pseudorandomly ordered list of hopping frequencies. Please explain how this device accomplishes this and also provide sample hopping tables. 9) System receivers shall have input bandwidths that match the hopping channel bandwidths of their corresponding transmitters and shall shift frequencies in synchronization with the transmitted signals. Please provide information that shows this device does this. 10) Please provide information showing compliance with 15.247(g)/(h). 11) FYI, the wireless USB TX portion of the system is applicable to DoC labeling as well. It does not appear that the label includes this. Timothy R. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 September 14, 2002 RE: Logitech Far East Ltd. FCC ID: JNZ221613 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) After receiving a majority of the previously requested information, it has been determined that the frequency hopping nature of this device is not pseudo-random and therefore this device may not be approved under 15.247 as a spread spectrum device. However, information presented within the test report shows that the device meets 15.249 requirements. After discussing this with Logitech it was found acceptable. However, please redraft the report for 15.249 compliance. 2) The schematics for the Joystick board have still not been provided. Please provide. 3) Regarding the bandedge compliance, there are spurs that appear during hopping as shown on page 20 of the test report. Please comment on the compliance of these as the test results shown for the bandedge were performed with the unit hop-stopped. The unit must also meet during hopping. 4) FYI, Please note that the FCC logo provided on the updated label is strictly for the USB Transceiver and not the joystick. 5) FYI, The statement "This transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter" may be removed from the manual for 15.249 compliance. My company, Logitech, manufactures Computer Peripherals products. Here is a question regarding Gaming Device for PC product. Background : Gaming Device device is made of two parts. GamePad (J-UE16) and Receiver (C-UG10b). Since, both of the device are bundled together, we have used same FCC ID, JNZ221613, on Gamepad as well as on Receiver. We have done same thing on previous models of Gaming device. But, for this project with different interpretation of the law by FCC, I am being asked to use two different FCC ID on Game pad and Receiver. Current situation: We have already produced 4500 units for USA with same FCC ID, JNZ221613, printed on Gamepad and on Receiver. Request: I am requesting you to accept same FCC ID, JNZ221613, for Gamepad and Receiver units for this time. or Permit Logitech to use these 4500 units the way it is and roll in the new FCC ID on the next build of the device. Please advise. Thank you for your great assistance. Thank you, Regards, Bharat Shah Tele : (510)-713-4777 Fax : (510)-713-4790 Page 2 of 3In 9/3/02Printed for "Timothy R. FCC ID: JNZ221613 ADT No.910709R01 Operational Description The EUT (Wireless JoyStick) includes two individual parts. One is the wireless Joystick which is held on the user’s hand, the other is USB transceiver which is connected with the PC. The wireless joystick is powered by 6VDC battery and USB transceiver is 5VDC from PC. This device is a Frequency Hopping device with 79 hopping frequencies. The declared output power is only 1.06mW. The hopping rate as well as the protocol is not the same as bluetooth, so it could not link with the bluetooth device.
