American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 August 12, 2004 RE: FCC ID: K7SF5D76314_ATCB001583 Attention: Ellis Wu / Wendy Liao I have a few comments on this Application. Please note that further comments may arise in response to answers provided to the questions below. 1. Please note that on the second photo in the internal photo exhibit there appears to be a board attached to the main circuit board. Please remove this board and provide a photo of the underlying circuitry and the under side of the board. 2. Please note that you have provided a manual for an end product. Please note that this is a modular approval of the transmitter and is not an LMA of the device installed in a host or final product. As such, the manual that must be provided is not the end product manual but the OEM installation manual giving instructions on the installation of this device. Please provide the OEM installation manual for this module. Please make sure that all of the appropriate FCC statements and warnings are in the manual (i.e. 20cm separation, non-modification, interference statement etc). Please also be sure to include the statement to the OEM about placing the statement “Contains FCC ID: K7SF5D76314” on the host. 3. Please note that the setup photo showing the PCB antenna above the table and in another orthogonal axis has not been made part of the test setup photo exhibit. Please note that this is an important setup photo as it shows that the antenna was not simply testing laying on the table as shown in the existing photos. This photo should be part of the test setup photo exhibit. As this photo answers a lot of questions concerning the testing of the device, please include this photo in the setup photos exhibit. FCC ID: K7SF5D76314 Report No: SA930202R01B 1 RF EXPOSURE REPORT REPORT NO.: SA930202R01B MODEL NO.: F5D7631-4 ACCORDING: FCC Guidelines for Human Exposure IEEE C95.1 APPLICANT: Belkin Corporation ADDRESS: 501 West Walnut Street, Compton, CA 90220-5221 ISSUED BY: Advance Data Technology Corporation LAB LOCATION: 47 14th Lin, Chiapau Tsun, Linko, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. FCC ID: K7SF5D76314 Report No: SA930202R01B 2 RF Exposure Measurement (Mobile Device) 1. Introduction In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) calibrated for antenna measurement in ADT, and also the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. Although the Friis transmission formula is a far field assumption, the calculated result of that is an over-prediction for near field power density. We will take that as the worst case to specify the safety range. 2. RF Exposure Limit According to FCC 1.1310: The criteria listed in the following table shall be used to evaluate the environmental impact of human exposure to radio-frequency (RF) radiation as specified in 1.1307(b) LIMITS FOR MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE (MPE) Frequency Range (MHz) Electric Field Strength (V/m) Magnetic Field Strength (A/m) Power Density (mW/cm 2 ) Average Time (minutes) (A)Limits For Occupational / Control Exposures 300-1500......F/3006 1500-100,000......56 (B)Limits For General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure 300-1500......F/15006 1500-100,000......1.030 F = Frequency in MHz FCC ID: K7SF5D76314 Report No: SA930202R01B 3 3. Friis Formula Friis transmission formula : Pd = (Pout*G) / (4*pi*r 2 ) where Pd = power density in mW/cm 2 Pout = output power to antenna in mW G = gain of antenna in linear scale Pi = 3.1416 R = distance between observation point and center of the radiator in cm If we know the maximum Gain of the antenna and the total power input to the antenna, through the calculation, we will know the MPE value at distance r. Ref. : David K. Cheng, Field and Wave Electromagnetics, Second Edition, Page 640, Eq. (11-133). 4. EUT Operating condition The software provided by Manufacturer enabled the EUT to transmit and receive data at lowest, middle and highest channel individually. 5. Classification This modular is specified to be installed in access point which is connected with host through wire. So it is easy to be re-located in the place where at least 20cm far away from the body of the user. Warning statement to the user for keeping at least 20cm or more separation distance with the antenna should be included in users manual. So, this device is classified as Mobile Device. FCC ID: K7SF5D76314 Report No: SA930202R01B 4 6.
