System Requirements for Configuration: Ethernet-Based Cable or DSL Modem 4 Introduction The D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 High-Speed Wireless Router is an 802.11g high- performance, wireless router that supports high-speed wireless networking at home, at work or in public places. Unlike most routers, the DI-624 provides data transfers at up to 108 Mbps (compared to the standard 54 Mbps) when used with other D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G products. The 802.11g standard is backwards compatible with 802.11b products. This means that you do not need to change your entire network to maintain connectivity. You may sacrifice some of 802.11g’s speed when you mix 802.11b and 802.11g devices, but you will not lose the ability to communicate when you incorporate the 802.11g standard into your 802.11b network. You may choose to slowly change your network by gradually replacing the 802.11b devices with 802.11g devices . In addition to offering faster data transfer speeds when used with other 802.11g products, the DI-624 has the newest, strongest, most advanced security features available today. When used with other 802.11g WPA (WiFi Protected Access) and 802.1x compatible products in a network with a RADIUS server, the security features include: WPA: Wi-Fi Protected Access authorizes and identifies users based on a secret key that changes automatically at a regular interval. WPA uses TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) to change the temporal key every 10,000 packets (a packet is a kind of message transmitted over a network.) This insures much greater security than the standard WEP security. (By contrast, the older WEP encryption required the keys to be changed manually.) 802.1x:Authentication is a first line of defense against intrusion. In the Authentication process the server verifies the identity of the client attempting to connect to the network. Unfamiliar clients would be denied access. For home users that will not incorporate a RADIUS server in their network, the security for the DI-624, used in conjunction with other 802.11g products, will still be much stronger than ever before. Utilizing the Pre Shared Key mode of WPA, the DI-624 will obtain a new security key every time it connects to the 802.11g network. You only need to input your encryption information once in the configuration menu. No longer will you have to manually input a new WEP key frequently to ensure security, with the DI-624, you will automatically receive a new key every time you connect, vastly increasing the safety of your communications. 5 Connections All Ethernet Ports (WAN and LAN) are auto MDI/MDIX, meaning you can use either a straight-through or a crossover Ethernet cable. The Auto MDI/ MDIX WAN port is the connection for the Ethernet cable to the Cable or DSL modem Auto MDI/MDIX LAN ports automatically sense the cable type when connecting to Ethernet-enabled computers. Receptor for the Power Adapter Pressing the Reset Button restores the router to its original factory default settings. 6 LEDs WLAN LED A solid light indicates that the wireless segment is ready. We cover various aspects of the network setup, including the network adapters. Please read the following if you are having problems. Note: If you have changed the default IP Address, make sure to ping the correct IP Address assigned to the DI-624. Note: It is recommended that you use an Ethernet connection to configure the DI-624 Wireless Broadband Router. 1.The computer used to configure the DI-624 cannot access the Configuration menu. Check that the Ethernet LED on the DI-624 is ON. If the LED is not ON, check that the cable for the Ethernet connection is securely inserted. Check that the Ethernet Adapter is working properly. Please see item 3 (Check that the drivers for the network adapters are installed properly) in this Troubleshooting section to check that the drivers are loaded properly. Check that the IP Address is in the same range and subnet as the DI-624. Please see Checking the IP Address in Windows XP in the Networking Basics section of this manual. Note: The IP Address of the DI-624 is 192.168.0.1. All the computers on the network must have a unique IP Address in the same range, e.g., 192.168.0.x. Any computers that have identical IP Addresses will not be visible on the network. They must all have the same subnet mask, e.g., 255.255.255.0 Do a Ping test to make sure that the DI-624 is responding. Go to Start>Run>Type Command>Type ping 192.168.0.1. A successful ping will show four replies. 56 2. The wireless client cannot access the Internet in the Infrastructure mode. Make sure the wireless client is associated and joined with the correct Access Point. To check this connection: Right-click on the Local Area Connection icon in the taskbar> select View Available Wireless Networks. The Connect to Wireless Network screen will appear. Please make sure you have selected the correct available network, as shown in the illustrations below. Troubleshooting Check that the IP Address assigned to the wireless adapter is within the same IP Address range as the access point and gateway. (Since the DI-624 has an IP Address of 192.168.0.1, wireless adapters must have an IP Address in the same range, e.g., 192.168.0.x. Each device must have a unique IP Address; no two devices may have the same IP Address. The subnet mask must be the same for all the computers on the network.) To check the IP Address assigned to the wireless adapter, double-click on the Local Area Connection icon in the taskbar > select the Support tab and the IP Address will be displayed. (Please refer to Checking the IP Address in the Networking Basics section of this manual.) If it is necessary to assign a Static IP Address to the wireless adapter, please refer to the appropriate section in Networking Basics. Herrmann, Fountain Valley, CA 92708 United States ISSUED BY: Advance Data Technology Corporation LAB ADDRESS: No. 47, 14th Ling, Chia Pau Tsuen, Lin Kou Hsiang 244, Taipei Hsien, Taiwan, R.O.C. TEST LOCATION: No. 19, Hwa Ya 2nd Rd., Wen Hwa Tsuen, Kwei Shan Hsiang, Taoyuan Hsien 333, Taiwan, R.O.C. FCC ID: KA2DI624D2 Report No: SA940930L01 2 RF Exposure Measurement (Mobile Device) 1. Introduction In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) calibrated for antenna measurement in ADT, and also the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. Although the Friis transmission formula is a far field assumption, the calculated result of that is an over-prediction for near field power density. We will take that as the worst case to specify the safety range. 2. RF Exposure Limit According to FCC 1.1310: The criteria listed in the following table shall be used to evaluate the environmental impact of human exposure to radio-frequency (RF) radiation as specified in 1.1307(b) LIMITS FOR MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE (MPE) Frequency Range (MHz) Electric Field Strength (V/m) Magnetic Field Strength (A/m) Power Density (mW/cm 2 ) Average Time (minutes) (A)Limits For Occupational / Control Exposures 300-1500......F/3006 1500-100,000......56 (B)Limits For General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure 300-1500......F/15006 1500-100,000......1.030 F = Frequency in MHz FCC ID: KA2DI624D2 Report No: SA940930L01 3 3. Friis Formula Friis transmission formula : Pd = (Pout*G) / (4*pi*r 2 ) where Pd = power density in mW/cm 2 Pout = output power to antenna in mW G = gain of antenna in linear scale Pi = 3.1416 R = distance between observation point and center of the radiator in cm If we know the maximum Gain of the antenna and the total power input to the antenna, through the calculation, we will know the MPE value at distance r. Ref. : David K. Cheng, Field and Wave Electromagnetics, Second Edition, Page 640, Eq. (11-133). 4. EUT Operating condition The software provided by Manufacturer enabled the EUT to transmit and receive data at lowest, middle and highest channel individually. 5. Classification The antenna of this product, under normal use condition, is at least 20cm away from the body of the user. Warning statement to the user for keeping at least 20cm or more separation distance with the antenna should be included in users manual. So, this device is classified as Mobile Device.
