file:///U|/L/LXE_KDZ/2406UC5/CUST%20REPLY%20-%2051212.htm From: Kirby Munroe [[email protected]] Sent: Friday, December 09, 2005 4:42 PM To: [email protected] Subject: SUBJECT: LXE, INC. - FCC ID: KDZLXEMX7P1, REFERENCE: JOB 2406UC5 SUBJECT: LXE, INC. - FCC ID: KDZLXEMX7P1 REFERENCE: JOB 2406UC5 The following is a response to the request for additional information for the above referenced job number. 1. SAR: Part 15 test report, section 1.2.1, and user’s manual refer to two versions of this handheld with 55 key-keypad vs. 32key. Which version was tested for SAR and EMC? No rational was found in the reports as to the compliance of these two versions. Response: The 55key-keppad was tested for both EMC and SAR. The MX7 keypad consists of patterns of gold traces on the CPU circuit board, and carbon pills on the keypad elastomer. When a key is pressed the carbon pill contacts the gold traces on the CPU board and is sensed by the system. The MX7 design uses a single CPU board for both the 32 and 55 key versions. The only difference between the two versions is the keypad elastomer that is installed into the system. This sharing of the same CPU board for both versions is accomplished by very creative placement of the keypad contacts (gold traces) on the CPU board such that both keypad elastomers have contacts for all their keys. The result of this design is that a single electrical design is able to handle both keypads. 2. Sections 7.6.3.1 and 7.6.3.3: 7.6.3.1 explains that the Avg is calculated from the Peak value. However, 7.6.3.3-1 table shows a larger difference between the avg and pk value. Please explain or revise. If the avg. was measured, please specify the measurement settings and the EUT test mode (e.g. EUT modified for continuous transmission, TDD or pulsed modulation disable, etc.) Response: Average measurements were performed with the EUT modified for continuous transmission. The measurement settings consisted of a 1MHz RBW and 10Hz VBW. A revised test report has been uploaded to the Timco website with the above referenced sections corrected. 3. Duty cycle 7.6.3.2: Please justify in more details the 30ms on time (e.g. TDD, communication protocol, etc.). Please provide analysis or plot to justify duty cycle. Response: The duty cycle was determined to be 12% worst case for this device. A detailed analysis of the duty cycle has been uploaded to the Timco website as well as a revised test report with the above referenced sections corrected. The 30ms on time was provided by the third party radio manufacturer and found not to be accurate for the application of this device. file:///U|/L/LXE_KDZ/2406UC5/CUST%20REPLY%20-%2051212.htm (1 of 2)12/14/2005 11:08:01 AM file:///U|/L/LXE_KDZ/2406UC5/CUST%20REPLY%20-%2051212.htm 4. Ext. photo: Please provide a photo of the AC/DC adapter. Response: A revised external photograph exhibit has been uploaded to the Timco website to include photos of the AC/DC adaptor. 5. Typo section 7.6.1.2-1: The title should be for 802.11g. Do not send a new report, just update your copy. Response: A revised test report has been uploaded to the Timco website with the above referenced sections corrected. Best Regards, Kirby Munroe Advanced Compliance Solutions, Inc. The mobile device can transmit information using an 802.11 radio and it can store information for later transmission through an RS-232 or USB port. The mobile device is vertically oriented and features backlighting for the display. The touch-screen display supports graphic features and Windows icons that the Windows CE 5.0 operating system supports. Keypads are available in 55-key alphanumeric and 32-key numeric-alpha versions. Also available is a 5250 55-key keypad overlay. The result of this design is that a single electrical design is able to handle both keypads. This device is a Windows CE 5.0 compatible computer that can be scaled from a limited function batch computer to an integrated RF scanning computer. The attached stylus is used to assist in entering data and configuring the mobile device. Protective film for the touchscreen is available as an accessory. A trigger handle is available as an accessory. The MX7 is powered by a 2200 mAh Lithium-Ion main battery pack and an internal NiCd backup battery. The 55 key version was selected for both EMC and SAR evaluations for the purpose of this filing. 1.2.2 Manufacturer Information LXE, Inc 125 Technology Parkway Norcross, GA 30092 Model: MX7 FCC ID: KDZLXEMX7P1 ACS Report: 05-0341-15C-B Advanced Compliance Solutions Page 4 2.0 TEST FACILITIES 2.1 Location The radiated and conducted emissions test sites are located at the following address: Advanced Compliance Solutions 5015 B.U. Test Report

Worst case scenario: The worst case scenario to cause the largest transmit duty-cycle is the MX7 by itself on an 802.11 RF-network uploading a large file through the RF network. Test condition: MX7 operating by itself on an 802.11 RF-network uploading a 5MB-file through the RF network. Results: Figure 1 shows an oscilloscope capture of the current into the radio for 100ms. This 100ms time period is representative of the entire time to transfer the 5 MB file. Each current spike above 400mA indicates the time when the MX7 is transmitting. Figure 1: 100ms capture of Current into the Radio Zooming in on any particular 10ms region (see Figure 2) shows that due to the 802.11 protocol, IP protocol, processing and throughput of the MX7 results in a periodic event occurring every 7.7ms. Figure 2: 7.7ms Periodic events Figure 3 shows that there is a 500us transmission that starts the 7.7ms period. The smaller three pulse durations are from left-to-right 250us, 100us and 100us. The resulting total- transmit time for the period is 500us + 250us + 100us + 100usor 950us. Figure 3: Transmission durations Conclusion: Figures 1 through 3 demonstrate that due to the periodic nature of this scenario, the worst case transmit duty-cycle is 0.950ms/7.7ms or 12%.

Power listed is conducted. This device must transmit with a source-based time-averaging duty factor not exceeding 12 %. SAR compliance for body-worn operations is restricted to belt-clips, holsters, and accessories supplied or designated for this product. Use of other accessories for body-worn operations requires no metallic component in the assembly and must provide at least 1.5 cm separation between the device and the users body. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. End-users must be informed of the body-worn operating requirements for satisfying RF exposure compliance. The highest reported SAR value is: Body: 0.118 W/kg.
