ISM Band Single Channel Narrowband Data Radio Transceivers The Finger ™ Preliminary 2 of 11 © 2001 Data Hunter, DS100546.pdf What is it? “The Finger” is a patent pending Monolithic Data Radio device encapsulating industry standard, advanced radio frequency integrated circuitry and components into complete, unified radio assemblies. The Finger is factory precision calibrated. The Finger has the lowest possible cost since there is no additional antenna, RF cable and RF connectors to purchase. Data Hunter Finger radios are not just RF-only devices like some competitor designs, but complete sophisticated data radios. All data radio functions are built in, including the antenna, RF power amplifier, crystal-controlled baseband processor and MAC (Media Access Controller). The sophistication extends to ARQ (automatic retries) with User- programmable retry count. The Finger will re-send the data until it is received perfectly or the Retry Attempt Counter is exhausted. The User simply feeds in industry standard asynchronous serial data. The Finger automatically packetizes the data stream, attaches the Target address, Initiator address, packet ID, and Check Sum in a DC-balanced RF stream for maximum Target Receiver sensitivity. November 26, 2001 Federal Communications Commission Laboratory Division 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, Maryland 21046 Ref: FCC e-mail regarding NJGF916NB Attention: Steve Dayhoff Dear Steve, We have received your e-mail request for clarifying information on the Data Hunter “Finger” data transceiver. The photos and schematic diagrams are enclosed. As to the third issue of your e-mail regarding its compliance as a modular transmitter, I would like to offer the following comments: Upon review of the FCC Public Notice DA 00-1407, it appears certain that this product does meet the criteria described therein. 1-The modular transmitter must have its own shielding. The product as offered for sale does not rely on additional shielding to demonstrate compliance. 2-The modular transmitter must have buffered mod/data inputs. As shown on the initially presented block diagram, buffered data inputs are employed. 3-The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation. An LDO 3.3 VDC regulator is part of the internal circuitry. 4-The modular transmitter must comply with antenna requirements. The product is contained within the antenna “Finger” which is not separable by an OEM from each other in its current embodiment. 5-The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-along configuration. As per the report cover photo and others, the device was tested in the open without benefit of any other enclosure. Federal Communications Commission Steven Dayhoff November 26, 2001 (page two) 6-The label information has already been provided in the case where the product must have its own label. As for a separate label being provided where the product is intended to be contained within another larger product, please see the attached statement by the manufacturer, Data Hunter. 7-The manufacturer is seeking certification same as that previously issued under FCC ID NJG-ML916NBP as a WLAN device with Rx verified. 8-Because of the extremely low transmitted power of this product, it would appear that no special exposure requirements or notices apply. Hopefully, this information will aid in your evaluation of this product and eventual certification as a modular transmitter. Please call or otherwise correspond if you require further information. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, David Feher

Labeling “The Finger” is a miniature data radio designed for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and does not have the form-factor or space available for a viable external label. Thus, there are two labeling requirements: 1. The label on the bag containing the component Finger Data Radio Transceiver as it is shipped to the OEM for installation in their device. 2. The external label on the OEM’s device upon which the Finger Data Radio Transceiver will be installed. Label 1: Primary Label Located on OEM Shipping Bag. In additional to appropriate notices in the User Manual , Data Sheets and Specifications, each Data Radio delivered to the OEM is labeled with the serial number, model number and FCC information on each individual plastic bag containing a Data Radio. Since the OEM is producing the final product which incorporates the Finger Data Radio Transceiver, the OEM is responsible for final product labeling. Label 2: OEM Labeling Requirements The OEM’s device must display an external label which contains the following language: This device contains a previously certified RF Transceiver module FCC ID: NJG-F916NB Patents Pending Made in the U.S.A. 916.5MHz Narrowband FCC ID: NJG-F916NB FCC Class B.
