For this reason only one function will be used at a time, the winch will only be winding in or pulling out. If at any time both buttons are pressed together, the remote transmitter and the receiver will go into the Emergency Stop mode (described below). Hand Held Remote Button 1 is a momentary function and it will turn on relay output 1 of the receiver as long as the button is held down. Button 2 is a momentary function and will turn on relay 2 output of the receiver as long as the button is held down. When the remote is not in use the backlight will be off and the remote will be powered down to conserve battery power. When a remote button is pressed the backlight will turn on for 5 seconds to conserve battery life. If the buttons are used again the backlight will turn on only while a switch is pressed. After 10 seconds the remote will completely shutdown. Pressing any button will power the remote back up. A replaceable 9V alkaline battery powers the remote. To access the battery remove the three screws from the back of the remote and separate the two halves. Each relay has a +12VDC output rated for 10A maximum output current. Each relay has an LED diagnostic indicator, if the LED is on the output of the relay should be on. The System itself has and LED indicator, this LED will blink when the system is on and active. The receiver is able to learn up to four different remote transmitters. To program a remote, press and hold the “Learn” button on the receiver. The Red Lear LED will turn on steady. Now press and hold a button on the remote transmitter until the Red Learn LED starts to blink. Release the “Learn” button from the receiver and the button from the remote. The new remote has been learned but it will not be active for 5 to 7 seconds after learning. If both buttons on the remote transmitter are pressed at the same time the remote and the receiver will go into the E-Stop mode. The Red LEDs on the remote will blink back and forth and no other functions will be available. The receiver will turn off any relay outputs and turn on the E-Stop relay output. The receiver will not respond to any transmitter buttons until the E-Stop mode has been canceled. E- Stop mode is a special emergency function of the RFTek system. For this reason, the transmitter and the receiver will remember that they are in E-Stop mode even after power down or if power is removed. The user must make a conscience decision to cancel E-Stop mode. E-Stop mode can be canceled by holding both buttons down on the remote for 7 seconds. Manual E-Stop cancel can be done at the receiver by grounding the “E-Stop Reset” wire, however the remote will still be in E-Stop mode so it will need to be reset as described above. Wire Connections: Caution: Before attempting any installation or repairs, ensure that the battery Ground terminal has been disconnected. GROUND (Black Wire) – This wire should be connected directly to the vehicle battery terminal. 18Awg wire is sufficient for this connection. +12VDC (Red Wire) – This wire should connect to a +12VDC source that will power the unit and the relay outputs to the winch controls. A 10A ATO fuse has been provided to protect the unit and the relay outputs from shorts or over current. A 15A ATO fuse is the maximum size that should be for this connection BUTTON 1 RELAY (Green Wire) – This connection will turn on and provide a +12VDC output when Button 1 on the remote transmitter is pressed. BUTTON 2 RELAY (Blue Wire) – This connection will turn on and provide a +12VDC output when Button 2 on the remote transmitter is pressed. ESTOP OUTPUT (Orange Wire) – This connection will turn on and provide a +12VDC output when the remote transmitter and the receiver go into E-Stop mode. ESTOP RESET (White Wire) – This connection is used for manual E-Stop mode cancel. The input to this wire is a Ground signal. File: Operational Description.doc 10/01/02 Operational / Product Description / Technical Description Date: 5/28/02 Submitted to: Washington Labs 7560 Lindbergh Drive Gaithersburg, MD 20879 301-417-0220 Submitted by: Transportation Safety Technologies 2400 Roosevelt Ave Indianapolis, In 46218 317-263-9160 RE: Product Information for RFTek-210 2-Function Wireless Control System The RFTek-210 2-Function Wireless Control System was designed primarily for Tow Truck or Wrecker Truck vehicles. The basic purpose for this control system is to control the winch that pulls vehicles up and down on the Tow Truck flat bed. There are two parts to the RFTek-210 control system: The Hand Held Remote Transmitter, and the Vehicle Mounted Receiver. The Hand Held Remote Transmitter has two functions, both functions are momentary and only one button is used at a time. Each time a button is pressed the Remote will transmit a data packet that contains an address, current mode, switch status, and error detection. The data packet is continuously transmitted as long as a button is held down 1 . Once the button is released the Remote will transmit several times the off status of the switches. When a button is pressed a green backlight will turn on behind the switch. This backlight will turn off the first time after a few seconds and then every time a switch is released. The Remote has a power saver feature to help conserve battery life. If the Remote is not actively used for 5 seconds it will power itself down and turn off completely. If any button is pressed at any time after, the Remote will power up and latch on the power supply. The 5-second power down delay will start again after no activity. The Remote also includes a low battery LED that will illuminate when the 9V battery reaches 5V. A third function of the Remote is called E-Stop Mode. E-Stop mode is entered by pressing and holding any one of the buttons for ¾ of a second and then pressing the other button. E-Stop mode is an emergency mode that will instruct the receiver to turn off all outputs and turn on the E-Stop relay output. E- Stop mode is indicated by the Red LEDs blinking back and forth on the Remote. Once E-Stop mode is entered the Remote will remember and stay in E-Stop Mode until the mode is canceled. E-Stop Mode is canceled by holding down both buttons for 7 seconds. 1 Instructions on how to make the test unit permanently transmit. File: Operational Description.doc 10/01/02 The Vehicle Mount Receiver contains three +12VDC output relays that are capable of 15Amps max of output current. Relay number 1 and number 2 are outputs for each button on the Remote Transmitter. The third relay output is for E-Stop Mode. All outputs are protected by an in-line ATO style fuse. The entire unit is enclosed in a sealed electronic enclosure for protection from various environments. The receiver is capable of learning and responding to four or less different transmitters. Transmitter learning is done by pressing and holding the Tx Learn button inside the receiver enclosure and then pressing and holding a button on the transmitter. While the Receiver is learning the new transmitter the Red LED will be on solid. Once the Receiver has learned the new transmitter the Red LED will blink fast. The learning process is now finished. There are various diagnostic LEDs around the Receiver PCB to aid in troubleshooting. There is also an audible aid for RF communication problems. The main microprocessor has a system OK green LED. This tells that the system has power and the microprocessor is running OK. Each relay output has a green LED, when the relay output is on, the green LED should be on. The audible tones are generated for two cases. First, a single tone is generated when a function is activated and/or deactivated. The second case is for a loss of signal. If an output was on and the receiver has not heard from the transmitter for 1 second the output that was on is turned off and two beeps are generated.
DATA GUIDE “SPLATCH” PLANAR ANTENNAS INTRODUCTION The “Splatch” is a breakthrough in compact antenna technology. It combines excellent performance and cost-effectiveness into an antenna package that can be integrated, even by designers lacking RF test equipment. Despite its simplicity and ease of use the “Splatch” should not be thought of as “just any other part”. Its correct function is critical to the performance of your overall device. Dropping the “Splatch” in the center of your board like any popcorn IC will likely yield dismal results. It is critical to follow the guidelines below in order to obtain proper function. 0.062" 1 GROUNDED LINE PLANAR ANTENNA 433-SP 1.102" 0.200" 0.540" 1 1 GROUNDED LINE PLANAR ANTENNA 433-SP ANT . ORDERING INFORMATION FEATURES: Low Cost Eliminates unsightly external antennas Easily concealed Direct PCB mounting Reflow compatible Stable grounded-line element Excellent proximity performance 10MHz approximate useable bandwidth Page 2 ATTACHMENT The antenna pads are designed to support both hand and automated placement. Castellations have been provided to ease solder introduction during hand assembly. The parts are also fully compatible with the reflow process for automated assembly. APPLICATION CONSIDERATIONS When implemented correctly the “Splatch”will yield outstanding and repeat- able results. However, the “Splatch”was designed with very specific feed and mounting requirements. Failure by the designer to respect these require- ments will result in unsatisfactory performance. * The antenna is tuned for direct mounting to a product’s PCB. Mounting the antenna in any other manner will produce poor results. * The antenna should be fed with a trace <=.25". Longer runs or coax feeds are not recommended. * Nothing should be placed under or directly beside the antenna element. Generally, mounting the antenna at the front of a product as illustrated will yield the best results. Typical Remote Control Application 1 GROUNDED LINE PLANAR ANTENNA 433-SP 418 Groundplane on Rear of Board Vias To Groundplane No Groundplane/Copper/Trace Area - BARE PCB .25" or Less Microstripped Feedline Page 3 LAYOUT CONSIDERATIONS Improper placement of planes, traces or components will result in antenna nulls or complete detuning. First, the area under the antenna on all board layers should be completely free of components, traces, or groundplane. In addition, no components or traces should pass within .25" of the top, sides, front or back of the antenna. Ideally the antenna will be mounted at the top of the board and given an unobstructed field of view in all directions. Components placed in the area below the back edge of the antenna will have little effect since the antenna has a null at its back edge when referenced appropriately to groundplane. Components placed to the sides or top of the antenna or items such as displays mounted in proximity to the antenna will produce nulls and, possibly, detuning. The antenna may be referenced to groundplanes of all different surface areas; however, it has been optimized for a 1.5"x 3" plane area. The best performance and lowest VSWR will be obtained when referenced to a plane of similar area. The recommended pad layout is illustrated below. The top layer of the board generally has the antenna mounting pads and feed trace. The ground pads are connected to the groundplane layer through vias. Use care in the sizing and placement of the vias to prevent solder migration from the attachment pads during attachment. Pads and outline shown for groundplane position reference only. Top Layer Bottom Layer Vias To Groundplane 0.100" 0.090" FEED CONSIDERATIONS Like most reduced-size antennas the “Splatch”has a fairly high Q and thus exhibits narrow bandwidth characteristics. The single most critical element in insuring the optimum function of the “Splatch”is to minimize the length of the feed trace (Transmission Line) to the “Splatch”itself. The feed trace should be less than .25" and in all cases microstripped. The term “Microstrip”refers to a trace passed over groundplane of a width appropriate to create a 50-ohm transmission line between the module and the antenna. Since the antenna does not present a true and stable 50-ohm match, the feed trace tends to lower the antenna’s resonant frequency. Given the antenna’s narrow bandwidth, it can easily be detuned by the length of the feed trace; thus, the trace should be kept as short as possible. Additional microstrip details are available in the reference section of this guide SPLATCH SERIES PERFORMANCE DATA About These Measurements The typical performance graphs below were based on a "Splatch" antenna affixed to the test jig illustrated, and measured with a HP-8753D network ana- lyzer in a 20°-25°C environment. *As of the time of this publication, full pattern characterization data was not avail- able. By using a SAW to insure accurate frequency control on the t ransmitter module the receive r ’s pass opening can be quite narrow, resulting in outstanding sensitivity and greater immunity to interfe ring signals. In order to frequency modulate this carrier the SAW is ex t e rnally pulled to obtain the n e c e s s a ry dev i a t i o n . By employing a SAW on both the RM transmitter and receiver the units prov i d e an excellent perfo rmance ri valing far more complex and costly systems.T h e S AW dev i c e, in combination with advanced design and manu fa c t u ri n g t e c h n i q u e s, has made it possible to dramatically reduce the size and cost of an RF link while enhancing its perfo rm a n c e. The end user benefits from i m p r oved product range and reliability and the OEM manu facturer from lowe r cost and simpler manu fa c t u ring procedures. November 19, 2002 To: Mr. William H. Graff, American TCB, Inc. From: Greg Snyder, Washington Laboratories, Ltd. RE: Transportation Safety Technologies, Inc. FCC ID: NVX-TST-RFT210 Revised Duty Cycle Calculation Discussion: The attached plots and the following discussion and calculations are used to show that the worst case duty cycle was tested for the Transportation Safety Technologies transmitter. These calculations correct the duty cycle calculations that were used in the Test Report based on normal operation. The test report data has not been changed since the new calculated duty cycle is less than the duty cycle calculated for the Test Report. Additionally, the unit used for testing had a worst case duty cycle as repetitiveness of the signal was much greater than in actual use. New Duty Cycle Correction: Based on the new duty cycle plots obtained in the normal mode, the EUT would have a worst case on time of 27.36ms. This is calculated as follows: 34 narrow pulses at 300us each 33 wide pulses at 520us each (33 x 520us) + (34 x 300us) = 27.36ms From the 200ms plot the length of a single pulse train is 75.7ms. Usi…
