Camlite Electronics, Inc FC2000TX Short Range Audio Visual Transmitter Installation and Operation Manual written by Roger Odle, BSEE © January 4, 2001 Camlite Electronics Inc. Snowflake; Arizona ! " 1Introduction The FC2000TX wireless audio/visual transmitter is a low power FM transmitter that operates in the 902 MHz to 928 MHz frequency band. The transmitter is designed as a component for OEM applications and is not intended for direct purchase by the end user. This manual describes the installation and operation of the device. 2Installation 2.1Housing Requirements The transmitter is small enough to be employed in hand held applications however it must be secured to protect against crushing or impact damage. The transmitter should be mounted so that the housing can be used as a heat sink or the housing must provide ventilation. The housing must allow the antenna to extend from the transmitter without bending and so that the antenna is not obstructed by metallic surfaces. 2.2Electrical Connections Electrical signals are connected to the transmitter through four color coded wires that pass through an EMI limiting ceramic toroid. The black wire is the ground reference for all signals. The red wire connects to a 12 VDC power source that can provide at least 250 mA peak current and 80 mA continuous current. The white wire connects to a high impedance audio signal source such as a piezo microphone. The yellow wire connects to a 75 ohm NTSC video source such as a keyhole video camera. The video bandwidth is 4 MHz. The unit must be operated with the factory installed antenna. ! " 3Operation The transmitter provides no controls to the end user. It operates at a fixed frequency that is set at the factory. It begins transmitting as soon as 12 VDC is applied to the unit. The red wire may be connected to the 12 VDC power source through a switch that can be used to turn the unit on or off at will. Transmitter performance can be effected by metal surfaces near the antenna and by large physical structures. The transmitter should not be operated near medical equipment. The operator may assume that any restrictions to the use of cell phones also applies to the use of this transmitter. The transmitter complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the restriction that the device does not cause harmful interference.

FCC ID:O94FC2000TX EA100640 Ms. Hawkins: Thank you for your phone call on April 18, 2001. This letter authorizes you to revise Form 731 paragraph 8(a) to 915 MHz from 902 – 928 MHz. Test data for fundamental frequency of 915 MHz is as follows: Tuned, MHz = 915 Emission, MHz = 915 Level, dBμν/m @ 3 meters = 63.4 Correction Factor = 30.5 Total dBμν/m = 93.9 = 49.55 mν/m @ 3 meters Please see amended page 2 of the Test Report, which has been uploaded to the test report exhibit. We trust this now meets the requirements of the Commission and the Grant will be issued. Best Regards, Morton Flom, P. Eng., President M. Operational Description

Camlite Electronics, Inc FC2000TX Short Range Audio/Visual Transmitter Theory of Operation written by Roger Odle, BSEE © November 2, 2000 Camlite Electronics Inc. Snowflake; Arizona ! 1Introduction The FC2000TX by Camlite Electronics, Inc. (CAMLITE) is a short range wireless audio/visual camera housed in a flashlight. It is a short range FM transmitter that operates in the 902 MHz to 928 MHz frequency band. 2Baseband Processing 2.1Video Signal The transmitter assembly accepts an NTSC encoded video signal on the yellow wire attached to E3. The video bandwidth of this signal is 4 MHz. The video input of the transmitter is terminated in 75 ohms. The video signal is coupled to the control input of the FM modulator by a passive network that includes potentiometer R101. R101 is adjusted to control the modulation factor of the transmitted signal. The input is DC blocked with a 1 uF capacitor to protect the FM modulator. 2.2Audio Signal The transmitter assembly accepts an audio signal on the white wire attached to E1. The audio signal amplitude modulates a 5.5 MHz local oscillator to create the sideband carrier signal that carries the audio information. The local oscillator is a series-mode negative resistance oscillator (Q5). The frequency is tuned by adjusting the slug in inductor T2. The oscillator output is buffered by amplifier Q4 then band limited by ceramic filter X1. The resulting signal is coupled to the FM modulator with a passive network. 3FM Modulator The FM modulator is a negative-resistance oscillator (Q3) with a pi resonator. A microstrip coupler is used as the inductive element of the resonator and to couple the output of the FM modulator to the power amplifier stage. The modulator is tuned by a voltage applied to varicap diode D1. The control signal from the synthesizer applied to this diode to control the output frequency. The audio and video signals are summed into the control signal of the synthesizer to FM modulate the carrier signal. ! " 4Synthesizer The synthesizer circuit (U2) contains a phase/frequency detector, a prescalar, a frequency divider, and a charge-pump output used to electronically tune the FM modulator. The registers of the synthesizer are programmed at startup with PIC microcontroller U1. The crystal oscillator of the microcontroller is used as the 4.00 MHz frequency reference for the synthesizer. The transmission frequency of the modulator is hardcoded into the firmware of the microcontroller. 5Power Amplifier The power amplifier consists of two cascaded common emitter amplifiers. A common bias current is used to set the operating point of both stages in order to reduce overall power consumption. The interstage coupling circuit reduces the low frequency gain of the transistor amplifiers to prevent saturation. The output of the power amplifier is coupled to the antenna and to the feedback input of the synthesizer chip with passive networks. 6Antenna The power amplifier is coupled to a monopole antenna with a series parallel network that has a low pass filter characteristic. This network attenuates harmonics of the fundamental carrier frequency. 7Shields The transmitter assembly is shrink wrapped with a non-conductive material then wrapped with aluminum foil. A copper braid connects the transmitter assembly to this outer shield at a single point. The battery wires and the audio and video wire exit the shield at the same location. All of these wires are threaded through a toroid bead to prevent conducted radiation from the FM modulator. The toroid is located no more than 0.25 inches from the place where the wires leave the shield. The antenna exits the shield along the edge of the transmitter assembly where it is laid along the inside of the FC2000 housing. ! 8Power Supply The transmitter assembly accepts 12 VDC power through the red wire attached to E4. The ground reference for the transmitter assembly is the black wire attached to E5. The unit draws approximately 80 mA of current. A zener diode (D2) regulates the 5 VDC supplied to the microcontroller, synthesizer circuits, and the 5.5 MHz oscillator. All other circuits operate directly from 12 VDC.

Make small changes then remove your hands and body from the area of the transmitter when measuring power. If the transmitted power is greater than +7 dBm then detune the coil so that the measured power is not greater than +7 dBm. The measured power should not be less than +5 dBm. Measure and record the final transmitted power on the test data sheet. 2.2.4Hold the antenna for the RF frequency counter in the near field of the transmitter assembly. Turn on the transmitted unit and observe the spectrum spread as the carrier is FM modulated by the video signal. Adjust R101 until the main lobe of the RF spectrum is 10 MHz wide at the 3 dB points beyond the upper and lower band edges. Measure and record the final signal bandwidth. 2.4.2Turn off power and move the transmitted to the vertical transmission frame. Turn on the transmitted and observe the signal with the A/V recei…
