Page 1 of 2 RF10K Users Manual Ewave, Inc. Dallas Texas RF10K User manual The RF10K is a 902-928 MHz FM transceiver Module. There are NO user adjustable or serviceable parts inside. The transceiver is shipped fully adjusted from the factory. There is a nine pin connector accessible by the user. Pin one (1) is the pin closest to the edge of the unit. The nine (9) pins are named and have the following functions: PinNameDescription 1)AFAnalog received signal out, 0.6 Volts Peak to Peak 2)SQReceive signal present, active High 3)CLKClock signal, used to clock in DATA for the internal PLL 4)DATAData that is clocked in with the CLK line 5)LELatch Enable control signal for the CLK and DATA lines 6)+VPower, +3.3 Volt input +/- 5% 7)GNDSignal and power Ground 8)TXTurns on/off the transmission section of transceiver, active high 9)MODAnalog signal for FM transmission, typical 0.3 V Peak to Peak Power must be applied to the unit before the PLL can be programmed. After power is applied the LE signal can be lowered, and then PLL data is clocked into the transceiver unit to set the TX and RX frequencies. Data is latched on the clock rising edge. The PLL data consist of three 21 bit sequences. First the reference divider of the PLL is loaded with the following 21 bits of data, in HEX MSB first: 0x17 0xE0 0x8A Following this the RX and TX PLL dividers are loaded, with 21 bit of data, in HEX MSB first: 0x14 0x55 0x1ARX PLL frequency load 0x02 0x48 0x13TX PLL frequency load The LE signal must be asserted after each 21 bit sequence of Data. After loading the PLL data, the TX signal may be asserted. Internal circuitry prevents the TX section on the Transceiver from powering up, until the PLL has been loaded with proper data and has locked on the correct TX frequency in the 902-928 MHz band. There Page 2 of 2 RF10K Users Manual Ewave, Inc. Dallas Texas is a DUAL SAW Filter (FT501) which prevents out of band signals from being transmitted or received by the RF10K. The SQ pin will go high, and analog received signal will be present on the AF pin if a RF signal is present. Analog signals fed into the MOD line will be transmitted after the internal PLL has locked, and the TX line is asserted.

Instead, it only occupies the range of 902-904 Mhz for the Short Antenna (Portable Station) and 926-928 Mhz for the Long Antenna model: (Base Station). The earlier submittal covered the required transmitter data for the 902-904 Mhz range and this added information covers the additional information for the transmitter operating in the 926-928 Mhz range. Since the device only operates at two 2 Mhz wide regions in this frequency spectrum, we only test once at the low range and once at the high range. Ewave, Inc. Model: RF10K RF Transceiver Temperature: 64 Deg F. Humidity: 63 % R.H. Test Technician: Gerald Heinen Preliminary tests were performed on antenna polarities of Vertical and Horizontal. Vertical was the worst case so all data was taken with an antenna polarity of Vertical. Certification testing was performed at the OATS site with an antenna distance of 3 meters. TRANSMITTER: The limit for section 15.249 is 50 mV/m. All data is taken with the required Quasi-Peak or Average Detector. This limit converted to dBuV is the limit shown in the next table. RF10K Theory of Operation. 1) Transciever The transmitter portion of the transceiver is primeraly a TX VCO tuned for the 902-928 MHz band. The analog data stream is fed directly into the VCO for frequency modulation. The receiver is of a traditional Superheterodyne design. The first LO operates at the receiving frequency, plus 14.32 MHz. The second mixer combines the 14.32 MHz IF with 13.865 MHz to generate a 455KHz IF. The 455 KHz IF filter has a 30 KHz bandwidth, and the output is fed to a standard detection circuit, comprised of a MC3361 Motorola IC. The fundamental transmit frequency, and the first LO frequency for the RX circuit are generated with a M64084 Mitsubishi dual PLL chip.

All measurements were taken in dBuV/m with the antenna located at 3 meters distance from the EUT. Frequency measurements are recorded in Mhz. Input power to the intentional radiator was not recorded---only the radiated emissions with the internal transmitting antenna were recorded. 2.6 Location of Test Site The open area test site (OATS) measurement facility used to collect the data was International Certification Services, Inc. at 1100 Falcon Ave in Glencoe, MN 55336. This site has been certified to be in spec of the normalized site attenuation per ANSI C63.4-1992. See letter of compliance from FCC dated July 23, 1998. (FCC 31040/SIT 1300F2) 2.7 Measurement Procedures TRANSMITTER: The antenna was placed at a distance of 3 meters from the EUT. The EUT was set on an insulating table in the OATS site and rotated through 360 degrees to determine the worst case EUT orientation. The antenna was then positioned vertical and horizontal to determine which antenna polarity orientation was worst case. Then certification data was recorded at all the transmitter frequencies from the fundamental to the 10 th harmonic. RECEIVER: A driving signal was induced into the receiver by using a stick antenna driven by a signal generator. The generator was tuned to 903 Mhz and the output amplitude was set to a very low level (-20 dBm) just enough to excite the receiver. Receiver activity was monitored with an oscilloscope at TP2 on the transceiver pc board. The receiving antenna was placed at a distance of 3 meters from the EUT. The EUT was set on an insulating table in the OATS site and rotated through 360 degrees to determine the worst case EUT orientation. The antenna was then positioned vertical and horizontal to determine which…
