A BRU Installation Kit is included with the BRU. The BRU Installation Kit contains connectors for LMR coax cable, self-amalgamating tape, an extra jam nut for the grounding/lightning protection lug, and a short 1.5m length of LMR240 cable as explained below. The location, height, elevation angle and azimuth direction of the BRU to be installed is determined by the network configuration you have selected. Table Error! To preserve the correct polarization, mount the BRU with the same orientation as shown in the installation figures. The BRU will not function properly if the polarization is not correct. For proper polarization the BRU must be within 3 Β° of vertical. The only tool required to mount the BRU is a 17mm wrench. An Installation Kit is provided with the unit. One or more BRUs may be mounted on the same pole. Use the following procedure to mounting the BRU on the pole: 1. Refer to Figure Error! Orient the mounting plate so that it is at the appropriate height and 90 degrees from the pointing direction of the BRU (so the BRU points in the correct direction when mounted) and secure it (do not over tighten). When using the M10 nuts, start the nut and screw it down close to its final position. Then place a drop of anti-seize compound on each bolt, making sure to cover the thread near the final nut position when the nut is tightened. Figure Error! No text of specified style in document.-2): a) Insert the two studs with the o-ring, flat washer, lock washer and hex nut through the clearance holes on the mounting plate. b) Slide the BRU to the left until the Rotation Pin on the BRU/BRU Mounting Bracket assembly aligns with the Pilot Hole of the Mounting Plate and the two studs are in the elevation adjustment slots. c) Push the BRU/BRU Mounting Bracket assembly flush against the mounting plate so that the Rotation Pin is in the Pilot Hole. Loosely tighten the nuts on the two bolts, as shown in Figure Error! No text of specified style in document.-2 and d) Figure Error! No text of specified style in document.-3. e) Adjust the elevation of the BRU. Tighten the two nuts on the BRU to secure it at the proper elevation. Subscriber Radio Unit Installation 2.1 Introduction This chapter gives instructions for installation of a Subscriber Radio Unit (SRU). Before installing the Subscriber Radio Unit, perform the following steps: 1. Refer to βSAS Installation Manualβ and perform the indicated procedures. 2. Install the Base Station as explained in βBSIS Installation Manual.β 3. Verify line of sight between the BRU and the SRU. 2.2 Getting Ready for Installation Before proceeding, remove and save all documentation. Use this manual for the installation of the Subscriber Radio Unit. SRU Installation 2-2SRU Installation Manual17286-1000 Rev. B 03/14/01 To prevent any damage to the components, carefully unpack the units on a flat, clean surface at the installation site. If a component must be unpacked at another location, carefully repack it in the original container before moving it to the installation site. Inspect components carefully for any damage. One pole mount fixture design (Mounting Plate, Strap and related hardware) serves the 10 GHz, 26 GHz, 28 GHz, and 39 GHz SRUs. When installing non-integral antenna units, see section 2.4 for installation requirements. 2.2.1.1 2.2.1.12.2.1.1 2.2.1.1 Outdoor Components for SRU with Integral Antenna Outdoor Components for SRU with Integral AntennaOutdoor Components for SRU with Integral Antenna Outdoor Components for SRU with Integral Antenna In addition to the SRU, the following parts are required for installation of the outdoor equipment for SRUs with integral antennas. (See section 2.4 for non-integral antenna.) Pole Mount Kit The Pole Mount adapter is used to attach the SRU Mount to a pole. A single pole mount design serves 26 GHz, 28 GHz, 39 GHz, and 10 GHz SRUs. The pole mount is available as a stand-alone assembly and is available in combination with the SRU mount (see the βMounting Accessoriesβ section of the Product Catalog). All bolts, nuts, and washers are A4 stainless steel, which may be purchased locally. The Pole Mount Kit includes: β’ Mounting plate β’ Strap β’ M10 nuts, bolts, washers and anti-seize compound SRU Mount 26 GHz, 28 GHz, and 39 GHz SRUs share the same SRU mount. See section 2.3.3 for illustrations. A different SRU mount is required for 10 GHz SRUs. See section 2.3.6 for illustrations. 28GHz Radio Operational Description The 28 GHz radio unit (RU) is comprised of three printed circuit assemblies (PCA) β power supply/microprocessor, IF module, and microwave module - a transmitter power amp, receiver low noise amp, and waveguide filter assembly. Refer to the block diagram. The microprocessor/power supply PCA utilizes a switch mode power supply built from discrete components and integrated circuits to convert the β48V nominal input voltage to +8V and β7V nominal output voltages. Power is distributed to the IF module PCA via a multipin connector. The microprocessor is an 8-bit microcontroller which runs a program stored in onboard FLASH memory. The microprocessor controls and monitors RU functions as well as provides communication with the indoor unit. The IF module PCA provides multiplexing and cable protection for the signals on the RU external TNC connector, IF gain control functions, IF filtering, and DC power distribution to the microwave module PCA. The multiplexer is a discrete component design that separates the β48V DC power, telemetry, frequency reference, 350 MHz transmit IF, and 140 MHz receive IF signals. The β48V DC and telemetry signals are routed to the microprocessor/power supply PCA via multipin connector. The reference frequency is fed to phase lock loop circuitry that generates the 14 MHz reference frequency used by all phase lock loops in the RU and to the microwave module PCA via coaxial feedthrough. The 350 MHz transmitter IF signal is routed to AGC circuitry that provides a constant signal level into the upconverter mixer. The transmit IF mixer LO is generated from the output of a VCO that is phase locked to the 14 MHz reference signal. The LO synthesizer is capable of 1 MHz step size over the 2098 MHz to 2110 MHz frequency range. The upconverted and filtered transmit second IF signal is fed to the microwave module PCA via coaxial feedthrough. The receiver second IF signal comes from the microwave module PCA via coaxial feedthrough. The signal is filtered and downconverted to the 140 MHz receiver IF. The receive IF mixer LO is generated from the output of a VCO that is phase locked to the 14 MHz reference signal. The LO synthesizer is capable of 1 MHz step size over the 1892 MHz to 1904 MHz frequency range. The 140 MHz receiver IF is passed through switched channel filters that provide channel bandwidth filtering. The filtered receive IF is then routed to AGC circuitry that provides a constant signal level at the RU external TNC connector. The microwave module PCA contains a VCO phase locked loop and times eight-diode multiplier chain. This synthesizer and multiplier chain produces the LO for transmit and receive frequency conversion. The LO is fed to the upconverter mixer where it is doubled and then mixed with the transmitter second IF signal resulting in the output transmit signal. The output transmit signal is filtered in the waveguide filter assembly then amplified by the transmitter power amp and filtered by the diplexer filter and routed to the antenna port. The transmit power amp is a thin-film amplifier module built with MMIC devices and is utilized in conjunction with gain control circuitry at the 350 MHz transmit IF for transmit power control. The receiver input signal is fed from the antenna port through the diplexer filter to the receiver low noise amplifier. The receiver LNA is a thin-film amplifier module built with MMIC devices. The output of the LNA is fed to the waveguide filter assembly and then to the microwave module PCA. The receiver input signal is then dow nconverted using the doubled LO signal to produce the receive second IF signal which is routed to the IF module PCA. The antenna assemblies vary dependent upon which model RU is built. Base radio units (BRU) with integral antennas utilize a waveguide sector horn antenna. Subscriber radio units (SRU) with integral antennas utilize a waveguide horn antenna with narrow beamwidth. BRU and SRU with non-integral antennas mount to a separate antenna assembly that is clamped to the RU.
