TS100 TALKINGSIGN TRANSMITTER USER MANUAL (PRELIMINARY) REV 1.0 Introduction More people are using the Internet than ever before to locate products and services and having an effective web page to promote business is becoming a necessity in today’s world. Typically, many web sites go unnoticed by the public even if they are properly indexed on search engines - they are swamped by the sheer numbers on the Internet often resulting in disappointing results. Experts advise that businesses must promote and advertise their sites if they are expected to succeed - evidence of billboard advertising and banners on web sites are everywhere. Some Internet companies are spending a majority of their income just promoting their sites - this drains the profits of the company and could lead them down the road to ruin. Consider also, that if the nature of your business is local - what good does it do to be seen worldwide but go unnoticed by your immediate customers? What is needed is a technique that promotes your site in an effective, affordable manner. The TalkingSign™ transmitter is just such a device. TalkingSign™ - The Transmitter The TalkingSign™ is a compact, high quality, low-power AM radio transmitter that transmits repeating audio messages to regular AM radios over a few hundred feet. Features: Audio stored on flash technology digital chips. 30 channel quartz-synthesized tuning. Fully FCC/ ICES approved requires no license to operate. Easy to use, only taking minutes to set up. The TalkingSign™ is usually located in a house or business with a sign out front requesting the customer tune their AM radio to a certain frequency to listen for information. The out-front sign also promotes the TalkingSign.com web site to which the customer may at a later time browse to receive more detailed information. TalkingSign.com - The Web Site TalkingSign.com is where it all happens. For example: Acme Windows is a small company that installs retrofit windows. During a job they typically leave a sign in the front yard of the house they are working on displaying their name and phone number. This usually gets them more business once they are in the area. Let’s see what happens when they also use TalkingSign™: The TalkingSign™ transmitter with recorded message is left inside the house and continuously repeats a message pre-recorded by Acme. The sign in the front yard still has their name and phone number, but now it also displays the TalkingSign™ logo and words that ask those interested to tune their car radios to 1620AM. People are naturally inquisitive and can now listen to a sales pitch about the specials on windows - and they can do this in private without feeling pressured by salespeople. They can also visit the TalkingSign.com web site later to look at pictures, testimonials etc. of Acme Windows. Result: The window company now has a ‘focussed web presence’, generating more business without any more work on their part. Acme’s name also appears on the TalkingSign.com website under windows and can be found when potential customers do a search for ‘windows’ on the site’s database. As a further benefit, other business people who use the transmitters and the web site are also promoting the TalkingSign.com site, thus causing more ‘eyeballs’ to be directed there, resulting in even more business for everybody. It’s a win-win situation. Step 2 Select ‘3m wire’ with antenna selector (2) Step 3 Connect wall adapter to 12VDC input (6). Step 4 Plug wall adapter into standard 120 volt outlet. Step 5 Select desired transmit frequency using slide switch (4) and rotary switch (5). 30 channels are available from 1400AM to 1690AM. Before choosing a frequency, make sure it is clear by ‘listening’ with an AM radio. Competing with other signals will reduce the range of the TalkingSign™. Step 6 Taking care not to touch antenna wire, turn the wire antenna tuning control (1) until the wire antenna tuning meter (e) shows a maximum reading. Each time you change the broadcast frequency, or move the antenna, retune for maximum output. Record Message Using Lapel Microphone The TalkingSign™ stores messages digitally with no moving parts to wear out. Your recorded message time may be any time up to 5 minutes and on playback, the message will continuously repeat regardless of length with no ‘dead-air’ time. Step 1 Connect the lapel microphone to (10) and attach to your clothing about 6 inches from your mouth (like on TV talk shows). Not handling the microphone results in a ‘clean’ noise-free recording. Step 2 Switch the front panel controls lock switch (7) to the unlocked position. This activates the front panel buttons (a-d). Step 3 When ready to record, press REC button (d) and speak with a normal voice. Use a clock to gauge how long you are recording. When finished press STOP (b). Step 4 Switch the control lock switch (7) to the locked position. This deactivates the front panel buttons (1-4), preventing accidental recording. Note: When front panel buttons are unlocked, they flash when pressed. When locked, the last button pressed remains on, but does not flash. Record Message From An External Device The TalkingSign™ may also record from an external device such as a tape deck or CD player. Step 1 Attach a ‘patch cord, (not supplied) from the line/audio out of the external player to the LINE I…
