TAKE OUT WHAT YOU NEED INSTALL THE PC CARD CLIENT ADAPTER INSTALL THE APPROPRIATE DRIVER AND UTILITIES 1 2 3 Quick Start Guide CISCO AIRONET 350 SERIES PC CARD C LIENT ADAPTERS Laptops with PC card client adapters Access Point 1 Take Out What You Need If any item is missing or damaged, contact your Cisco representative or reseller for support. Note: The integrated antenna on PC models of the Aironet PC Client Card Adapter is permanently attached; LM models are shipped with no antenna. Additional Requirements •A computing device (desktop personal computer, notebook, laptop computer, portable or hand-held device) equipped with an internal or external PC Card Type II or Type III slot. All drivers and supporting software (card and socket services) for the PC card slot must be loaded and configured. •The following information from your system administrator: —your wireless client name —the (case-sensitive) wireless service set identification (SSID) for your radio network —for Microsoft Windows networking, your computer name and workgroup name —the username and password for your network account —if you are not connected to a DHCP server, the IP address, default gateway address, and subnet mask of your computer —for Windows NT systems, an available IRQ number (interrupt address) in your system Cisco Aironet 350 Series PC Card Client Adapter (labeled Wireless LAN Adapter) Cisco Aironet 350 Series PC Card Client Adapter CDs for Windows 95 and Windows NT or Windows 98 and Windows 2000 with software and product documentation CISCO AIRONET 340 SERIES 11 Mbps WIRELESS LAN ADAPTER 2 Install the PC Card Client Adapter CautionThe following procedures and physical connections apply generally to normal and conventional PC card slots. In cases of custom or non-conventional equipment, be alert to possible differences in PC card slot configurations. 1 Before you begin, examine the PC card client adapter. One end is a dual-row, 68-pin PC card connector. The card is keyed so that it can be inserted only one way into the PC card slot. The slot in your computing device must be a PC card Type II slot (this includes slots that support both the Type II and Type III cards). Note: The PC card slot will be on the left or right side of the computer, depending on the model. 2 For Windows 95 and Windows 98 systems, remove any other PC card from the card slot. 3 For Windows 95 or Windows 98 systems, turn the computer on before inserting the PC card client adapter. For Windows NT systems, turn the computer off before inserting the client adapter. CautionNever force the PC card client adapter into the PC card slot. Forcing it will damage both the PC card and the slot. If the PC card does not easily insert, remove the card and re-insert it. 4 Hold the PC card client adapter with the logo facing up and insert the card into the slot, applying just enough pressure to make sure it is fully seated. Proceed to the appropriate driver installation for your operating system. 3 Note: The following procedures assume you are installing the driver from the CD provided. If your PC does not have a CD-ROM drive, download the driver from Cisco’s web site. Install the Appropriate Driver and Utilities Windows 98 Systems Note: The Windows 98 driver also works with the Windows 2000 operating system. In Windows 98 systems, after you have installed the PC card client adapter, the system automatically detects it, opens a New Hardware Found window, and starts collecting information for a driver database. 1 When the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box opens, it is searching for new drivers. Click Next. 2 From the next dialog box, select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended) and click Next. 3 Select CD-ROM drive, deselect all other options, insert the Cisco Aironet 350 Series Client Adapter CD for Windows 98, and click Next. 4 The hardware wizard will find the installation files on the CD and display the search results. When the PCMCIA adapter driver is displayed, click Next to copy the required files. 5 During driver installation, you may be prompted to enter a path to the required client adapter or Windows 98 files: (a) Windows 98 files installed on your PC are usually located in the folder C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. Click OK to install. (b) If the system prompts you for the Windows CD and the CD-ROM drive on your PC is drive D, the path should be D:\WIN98. Click OK to copy the required files. 6 The Add New Hardware Wizard window again opens indicating that the installation is complete. Click Finish. 7 Remove the CD and restart your laptop. 8 When the computer restarts, double-click My Computer, Control Panel, and Network. 9 Select the PCMCIA adapter and click Properties. 10 In the Properties window, click Advanced. 11 In the Advanced window, select Client Name and enter your computer’s unique name in the Value dialog box. 12 Select SSID. Enter your Access Point’s (case-sensitive) SSID in the Value dialog box. Click OK. 4 13 If you are not connected to a DHCP server, double-click My Computer, Control Panel, and Network. Click the Protocols tab and select TCP/IP and Properties. Select Specify an IP address and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway address of your computer. Click OK. 14 In the Network window, click OK. 15 When prompted, click Ye s to reboot the laptop. Windows 95 Systems In Windows 95 systems, after you have installed the PC card client adapter, the system automatically detects it, opens a New Hardware Found window, and starts collecting information for a driver database. 1 The Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box opens and indicates that Windows will complete the installation of the PCMCIA adapter. 2 Insert the Client Adapter CD for Windows 95 and NT, and click Next. 3 When the Update Device Driver Wizard indicates that it is unable to locate a driver, click Other Locations. 4 In the Select other Location window, click Browse. 5 Select the CD-ROM drive and click OK. 6 In the Select other Location win…

4-31 Cisco Aironet Access Point Software Configuration Guide OL-0657-07 Chapter 4 Security Setup Setting Up MAC-Based Authentication Step 4If you plan to create a MAC address list that will be checked by the authentication server, select Ye s for the option called Lookup MAC Address on Authentication Server if not in Existing Filter List. With this option enabled, the access point checks the authentication server’s MAC address list when a client device attempts to authenticate. Step 5Click Apply to save the list of MAC addresses in the access point management system. Step 6Click the Authentication Server link to go to the Authenticator Configuration page. Figure 4-11 shows the Authenticator Configuration page. Figure 4-11 Authenticator Configuration Page You can configure up to four servers for authentication services, so you can set up backup authenticators. If you set up more than one server for the same service, the server first in the list is the primary server for that service, and the others are used in list order when the previous server times out. Step 7Enter the name or IP address of the authentication server in the Server Name/IP entry field. Chapter 4 Security Setup Setting Up MAC-Based Authentication 4-32 Cisco Aironet Access Point Software Configuration Guide OL-0657-07 Step 8Enter the port number the server uses for authentication. The default setting, 1812, is the port setting for Cisco’s RADIUS server, the Cisco Secure Access Control Server (ACS), and for many other RADIUS servers. Check your server’s product documentation to find the correct port setting. Step 9Enter the shared secret used by the server in the Shared Secret entry field. The shared secret on the bridge must match the shared secret on the server. Step 10Enter the number of seconds the access point should try contacting the primary authentication server in the Timeout entry field. If the primary authentication server does not respond within this time, the access point tries to contact the backup authentication server if one is specified. Step 11Select MAC Address Authentication under the server. If you set up a backup authentication server, select MAC Address Authentication under the backup server, also. Step 12Click OK. You return automatically to the Setup page. Step 13Create a list of allowed MAC addresses for your authentication server. Enter the MAC addresses of all allowed clients as users in the server’s database. The “Enabling MAC-Based Authentication in Cisco Secure ACS” section on page 4-35 describes how to create a list of MAC addresses for your RADIUS server. NoteBe sure to include your own MAC address in the authentication server’s list. Step 14Click Advanced in the AP Radio row of the Network Ports section at the bottom of the Setup page. The AP Radio Advanced page appears. Figure 4-12 shows the AP Radio Advanced page. 4-33 Cisco Aironet Access Point Software Configuration Guide OL-0657-07 Chapter 4 Security Setup Setting Up MAC-Based Authentication Figure 4-12 AP Radio Advanced Page Step 15Select Disallowed from the pull-down menu for Default Unicast Address Filter for each authentication type requiring MAC-based authentication. For example, if the access point is configured for both open and Network-EAP authentication, you could set Default Unicast Address Filter under Open to Disallowed but leave Default Unicast Address Filter under Network-EAP set to Allowed. This configuration forces client devices using open authentication to authenticate using MAC addresses but does not force LEAP-enabled client devices to authenticate using MAC addresses. To force all client devices to authenticate using MAC addresses, select Disallowed for all the enabled authentication types. Chapter 4 Security Setup Setting Up MAC-Based Authentication 4-34 Cisco Aironet Access Point Software Configuration Guide OL-0657-07 When you set Default Unicast Address Filter to disallowed, the access point discards all unicast traffic except packets sent to the MAC addresses listed as allowed on the authentication server or on the access point’s Address Filters page. NoteClient devices associated to the access point are not immediately affected when you set Default Unicast Address Filter to disallowed. Step 16Click OK. You return automatically to the Setup page. Client devices that associate with the access point will not be allowed to authenticate unless their MAC addresses are included in the list of allowed addresses. Authenticating Client Devices Using MAC Addresses or EAP You can set up the access point to authenticate client devices using a combination of MAC-based and EAP authentication. When you enable this feature, client devices that associate to the access point using 802.11 open authentication first attempt MAC authentication. If MAC authentication succeeds, the client device joins the network; if the client is also using EAP authentication, it attempts to authenticate using EAP. If MAC authentication fails, the access point waits for the client device to attempt EAP authentication. Follow these steps to combine MAC-based and EAP authentication for client devices using 802.11 open authentication: Step 1Follow the steps in the “Setting Up EAP Authentication” section on page 4-19 to set up EAP. You must select Require EAP under Open authentication on the AP Radio Data Encryption page to force client devices to perform EAP athentication if they fail MAC authentication. If you do not select Require EAP, client devices that fail MAC authentication might be able to join the network without performing EAP authentication. Step 2Follow the steps in the “Setting Up MAC-Based Authentication” section on page 4-29 to set up MAC-based authentication. VPN is looking to certify two new antennas attached to the CISCO PCMCIA card. The original certification of the CISCO PCMCIA card can be found within FCC ID number LDK102035. For this certification, schematics and block diagrams are only needed for the PCMCIA card, which is the radio portion of the equipment. Use of the PCMCIA card within the CICSO Access Point device requires only Declaration of Conformity (DOC) testing. The PCMCIA card and the Access Point Device are purchased from CISCO as a package. The firmware within the Access Point will only recognize the CISCO PCMCIA radio. The Access Point with PCMCIA was received from CISCO pre- configured with a specific radio model.
