Users Manual

14220 Plank St. - Ft Wayne, IN 46818 - Phone: 260-637-2739 - [email protected] – www.northernapex.com DP180B RFID Scanner Operations Manual NOTE: This unit is intended for use as a battery operated handheld unit. While it contains rechargeable batteries and a wall transformer for charging the batteries, once charging is complete, prior to turning the device on, the charging system is to be disconnected from the unit. In the event, that the charging system remains connected to the unit and not inserted into an AC outlet, interference with other devices in the area could occur. Charging – prior to first use unit should be charged Your DP180 contains a rechargeable battery pack that should provide approximately 500 or more charging cycles. Each charge will provide approximately 1500 reads or more, assuming the unit is not idle while powered- up between reads. Our tests are based on one read of a tag every 10 seconds. Charging takes 4 hours or less, depending on the capacity left in your battery pack. Charging should be accomplished using only the wall mount supply provided. Inserting the supply plug into the jack initiates charging and is indicated by illuminating the red light on the side of the unit near the charging jack. When the red light goes off, charging is complete. Note: When it comes time to replace your battery pack, only an authorized technician should do so. In addition, the RFID functionality is automatically turned off during charging such that the unit will not scan a tag while being charged. 14220 Plank St. - Ft Wayne, IN 46818 - Phone: 260-637-2739 - [email protected] – www.northernapex.com Normal Operation The DP180 rocker power switch has three positions. The middle position is OFF. The end rocker positions are both ON except one provides an additional backlight for the display in low light conditions. Upon first turning the unit ON, the LCD displays the message “Ready”. A tag present in the field during power-up will not be processed or displayed upon power-up. It is important to power the unit ON and observe the “Ready” message prior to introducing a tag into the field. If a tag is in the field prior to observing the ready message, it will have to be removed and re-introduced into the field in order to be read. Power Switch 14220 Plank St. - Ft Wayne, IN 46818 - Phone: 260-637-2739 - [email protected] – www.northernapex.com Tags The DP180, upon placing the head of the unit, containing the display and antenna, above a functional C210, C240 or ISO15693 tag, will extract the 16 digit hexadecimal, unique ID from the tag and display it on the LCD Screen. The DP180 can be configured for other alternative tag ID formats upon request. Consult an RFID sales representative for options. A tag ID is displayed on the LCD for five seconds prior to transitioning to another “Ready” message, alerting the user that it is ready to read a new tag or re-read the previous tag. If a tag is in the field prior to observing the ready message, it will have to be removed and re-introduced into the field. NOTE: This unit is intended for use as a battery operated handheld unit. Caution: According to FCC rules, any changes or modifications to this device not expressly approved by Northern Apex Corporation could void the user's authority to operate this device. 14220 Plank St. - Ft Wayne, IN 46818 - Phone: 260-637-2739 - [email protected] – www.northernapex.com Regulatory Statement NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules.
