All HoodXpress® products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality and durability. To ensure trouble free operation and long service life, please read and understand the entire owner’s manual prior to use of the product. HoodXpress® Owner’s Manual www.HoodXpress.com 3 2.0 Safety Warning Symbols / FCC Information: Your safety and the safety of others is of the utmost importance. Please be familiar with the important safety messages provided in the manual and on/with your HoodXpress® product. Always read and obey all safety messages. This is a safety alert symbol, which is used throughout this manual. This symbol alerts you to hazards that can cause serious personal injury or death. This is an electrical shock alert symbol, which is used in the installation manual. This symbol alerts you to electrical shock hazards that can cause serious personal injury or death. Always disconnect the battery before performing any electrical work. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for Class B digital devices, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC & I.C.Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation, even when properly installed. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one of more of the following measures: • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. • Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for assistance. For detailed installation instructions please refer to the installation guide included in the application specific adaptor kit for your vehicle. Installation guides can also be found on our website @ www.hoodxpress.com. 6.0 Operation: 6.1 Opening the hood • Release hood straps on both sides of the vehicle. • Make certain there is sufficient space in front of vehicle to open hood safely. • Stand clear and to the side of the vehicle. • Press and hold the middle “unlock” button on the key fob. Wait until the base unit beeps. This beep signals that you have electronically unlocked the unit. For safety reasons this electronic locking feature will time out and lock 15 seconds after cycle completion. • Press the top button (marked with an arrow pointing up) on the key fob. This will start the automatic hood opening cycle. Note: In case of emergency, you may interrupt the opening of the hood at any time by pressing any button on the key fob. 6.2 Closing the hood • If electronic locking feature has timed out, press and hold the middle button on the key fob until the base unit beeps. This will unlock the HoodXpress®. • Press the bottom button (marked with an arrow pointing down) on the key fob and allow the unit to cycle to closed stop. To avoid safety and/or warranty issues, always follow manufacturer’s installation instructions. Failure to follow these instructions may cause serious personal injury or death and/or damage to the HoodXpress® unit or your vehicle. For safety reasons, always open hood to full cycle stop before working under hood. Never operate the HoodXpress® unit from inside the vehicle or while vehicle is in motion. Before closing the hood, always make certain area is clear and safe to do so. Failure to do this could result in serious personal injury or death and/or equipment damage. Once the hood is fully closed, always secure the hood on both sides with the original equipment hood latches. This product is designed to comply to FCC Part 15.231. The system consists of a handheld keyfob device with 3 switches, and central unit installed on a truck. Pressing a switch on the keyfob causes transmission to occur. Transmission ceases 2s after all switches are released. Total transmission time is limited to 10s, in case of stuck switch. Transmitter is designed using Microchip PIC12F675F, tuned to 433.92MHz. Data is sent in 50ms packets, repeated every 100ms (35% worst case utilization) as long as any switch is pressed. ASK modulation and PWM coding is used to send 4 bytes of data - Serial Number High, Serial Number Low, Switch Status, CRC. Receiver module controls 12V DC electric motor, which via system of gears and rod causes engine hood to open and close as requested. Speed control, current limit, over/under voltage, obstacle detection are implemented. Receiver unit uses Microchip rfRX0420 device. Received data is intercepted by microcontroller, and operation of the system is initiated based on momentary action of switches.
