The Extricom WLAN System User Guide 15 Chapter 2 Installing the Extricom WLAN System This chapter provides instructions for unpacking and installing the Extricom WLAN system. Unpacking the Extricom WLAN System The Extricom WLAN system is shipped with the following: One Extricom switch. CD which contains The Extricom WLAN System User Guide and Release Notes. APs (the number of APs is based on customer order and provided in separate boxes) are shipped as part of the overall order. One power cable. Additional Equipment Needed The following additional equipment is required for installing the Extricom WLAN system: One CAT-5e/6 cable for each AP. One CAT-5e/6 cable for connecting the WLAN switch uplink to the LAN switch. One EXRE-10 Range Extender for any AP that will be located over 100 meters from the WLAN switch. Two stainless steel pan head 8x1-1/4" self-tapping Phillips screws for mounting each AP (optional). 16 Installing the Extricom WLAN System Determining the Location of the Extricom Access Points Before installing the switch and access points, plan the placement of the APs. Before permanently mounting the APs, it is recommended to test the network (using a laptop client) to identify potential coverage holes. If such a problem exists, relocate an AP or add additional APs to resolve the coverage hole. The APs should be placed in a stable, secure location, such as on top of a closet or bookshelf, or mounted on a wall. The switch should be placed near the distribution point of the LAN line. This is usually in the communications closet of your enterprise. The Extricom EXSW800/1200/2400/8000 Switch The Extricom EXSW800 switch has 10 connectors and 4 LED types on the front panel (refer to Figure 10). To Whom So Ever It May Concern We hereby confirm that Mr. Erez Aharon is the Authorized Signatory and Contact Person for Extricom Ltd. and has authorized Mr Eran Shpak to sign on his behalf for FCC matters. Signature: Date: 23/6/08
American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 June 4, 2008 RE: Extricom Ltd. FCC ID: VDJ-EXRP40E & VDJEXRP20E After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. Depending on your responses, kindly understand there may be additional comments. For FCC: 1) Due to various concerns recently seen about proper authority being given to others for FCC and/or IC matters, the agency letter (and ideally confidentiality letters as well) should be signed by someone traceable to have the proper authority. For instance, the FCC site shows Eriz Aharon as the correct contact of authority for FCC matters. Therefore the agency letters and confidentiality letters should be signed by this contact or alternatively a letter showing who he has “deputized” (i.e. Eran Shpak) to sign on his behalf may be provided as well. For further detail see: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/kdb/forms/FTSSearchResultPage.cfm?id=33316&switch=P 2) Internal photographs must show top and bottom of the RF board as well. Additionally, if an RF shield is in place, photographs should show both with and without the shield. 3) Users manual appears to be missing 15.105 information. Please update. DTS 4) Test report for DTS references DA 00-705. This is a frequency hopping test method. Other methods should have been applied. See: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/kdb/forms/FTSSearchResultPage.cfm?id=21124&switch=P Additionally, where multiple methods exist (i.e. power, spectral density, etc.) – the specific method used should be cited somewhere with the test data (Method 2, etc.) to explain which particular method was applied. 5) For power it is uncertain if a combiner technique or not. Generally the FCC does not want to see combiner techniques as they can create anomalous results in some cases. FCC Prefers to do numerical summation for these types of devices (see next comment). Additionally, it appears the method used was Option 2, method 1. However detector should be set to sample and not AVG for these. Please review. z Page 2 June 5, 2008 6) FCC does not require to consider aggregate power in this case as long as there is no coordination between the multiple transmitters. While the operational description cites the are independent and are not coordinated, the FCC has asked to provide information that demonstrates that the equipment does not use the multiple transmitters for the following : · to send the same information over separate transmitters (Internal maintenance traffic may be permitted). · Separate transmitters are delivering traffic to a single remote device divided into separate simulations transmissions. · Describe what transmitters are operating under the same equipment class and/or rule part frequency band. · Other conditions for multiple transmitters within a single enclose that may be applicable: o Multiple transmitters using Frequency Hopping protocols under 15.247 are not permitted (under any condition) to coordinate transmissions to avoid different transmitters occupying the same frequency channel. o The ensemble of all transmitters must comply with all applicable radio frequency exposure rules, guidelines and interpretations. o Held to ear handset devices being tested for Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) must ensure that there is no interrelated influences form other transmitters operating simultaneously on the HAC rating on the specific air interface bands marketed. o Testing compliance to all other emissions must account for interactions among worst case active transmitters. 7) If power is measured using one of the techniques using a SAMPLE detector, then section 4.4 of the report should use -30 dB as the limit, not -20 dB. Please note that not all measurements appear to meet -30 dB. This may dictate which method should be used for power (PEAK). Please review. 8) It is not understood why a combiner may have been used for spectral density tests. The operational description cites the radios can not operate on the same channels at the same time. Please explain. 9) Please update any affected exhibits for any differences in power from adjustment of the technique (i.e. RF Exposure, Users manual if listed, etc.) 10) Page 7 of report mentions multiple beams. This device does not appears to be a beam forming device. Please explain. UNII 11) Test report for UNII references DA 00-705 and also incorrect references to 15.247. DA 00-705 is a frequency hopping test method. Other methods should have been applied. See: http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/kdb/forms/FTSSearchResultPage.cfm?id=21082&switch=P Additionally, where multiple methods exist (i.e. power, spectral density, etc.) – the specific method used should be cited somewhere with the test data to explain which particular method was applied 12) It is not understood why a combiner may have been used for spectral density tests. The operational description cites the radios can not operate on the same channels at the same time. Please explain. 13) It appears the method used was Power method 1. However detector should be set to sample or peak and not AVG for these. Please review. z Page 3 June 5, 2008 14) Page 7 of report mentions multiple beams. This device does not appears to be a beam forming device. Please explain. 15) The exact power spectral density method used does not appear to be provided/explained. 16) Power spectral density should use peak or sample detectors depending on what method was applied. Data showed AVG. Please review. 17) It is uncertain which power method was appropriately applied, so the peak excursion measurement settings for trace 2 could not adequately be evaluated. 18) Please explain compliance to 15.407(f). 19) Where is compliance to 15.407(g) found? Additional: 20) FYI...It appears these radios are not intended for direct connection to a PC. If so, then the DoC labeling and approval under DoC may not be necessary. This is only intended for device that attach directly…

American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 June 4, 2008 RE: Extricom Ltd. FCC ID: VDJ-EXRP40E After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. Depending on your responses, kindly understand there may be additional comments. For FCC: 1) Originally it was thought the top and bottom of the main board were being shown. However on closer examination it appears that there are actually 2 main boards in the device but only the top views of these were provided. Therefore please provide photographs of the bottoms of these boards as well. 2) New manual provided appears to show that country domain can be selectable. This is not allowed under most normal approvals for Part 15 due to Part 15.15 of the rules. For example, the FCC released the following on an application that was denied a few years back: At this time, the FCC will not authorize transmitters that have the capability to allow the end user to choose various frequency bands that may be valid for other countries but are not in accordance with the frequency bands permitted by the FCC rules for use in the USA. This includes transmitters that use active or passive listening techniques on these non-USA frequencies. These transmitters must have these end user options disabled. Section 15.15(b) prohibits adjustments of any control by the user that will cause operation of a device in violation of the regulations. Accordingly, any proposal to allow the end user to choose extended channels on frequencies outside of an allowable frequency band in the USA is not acceptable. Note: Ideally the max/min channels available should be set/locked in the hardware such that an update in the firmware can not affect this issue. 3) The users manual mentions operation in 5250-5350 MHz, ant 5505 – 5725 MHz. This application does not support this. Also given the Transceiver being capable in this range suggests further concern regarding 2) above. Please explain how this device it kept from operation in this band. 4) UNII Peak excursion measurement trace 2 does not appear to follow published UNII procedures. Please review. 5) Please explain compliance to 15.407(c). This was intended to be in last set of comments – but incorrectly stated as 15.407(f). 6) Regarding 15.407(g) – compliance is usually shown for UNII by either frequency tolerance tests or information regarding crystal tolerances. Simple measurements of the bandedge without concern for temperature are not sufficient. 7) Receive emissions for IC should measure up to 3 times the internally generated or used by the RX. (RSS-GEN 4.10). Data provided doesn’t appear to cover this. 8) FYI.....Because of identical file names and Revision numbers of test reports, there was some difficulty in reviewing the changes to the new files and took more time than normal. In the future, kindly add an extension to the file name (i.e. Rev X, or date code) to easily distinguish newer revised documents and which one is the most recent. z Page 2 July 8, 2008 Timothy R. Johnson Examining Engineer mailto: [email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.
Here are my responses regarding your 2nd review: For comment #1:The device contains a single main board with top & bottom photos as presented. For comments #2, 3 & 5: An updated Operational Description has been added to the filing. For comments #4 & 7:Updated test reports Part 1 Rev2 and part 2 Rev 2 have been added to the filing. For comment #6: Since the transmitter module is manufactured by a 3rd party, the grantee is unable to provide details about the crystal's tolerances. However, since the module was certified and carries an FCC ID, requirement of sec. 15.407(g) has been met. Normal operation conditions (temperature anf voltage) for the device are the same as for the module. Best regards Yossi Zucker EMC & Product Safety Lab Manager QualiTech, ECI Telecom
