Tracc[are Febtuary 22, 2OlO Equipment Authorization Division Fedelal Communications commission 7435 oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD, 21046 FCC lD: X4WRF460 Reouest for Limited Modular Agoroval Tracciare respectfully submits this requestlor Limited Modulot Approvol for consideration regarding Fcc tD x4wRF450. Background lnformation. The Tracciare RF460 module is a 2 watt RF transceiver with frequency operation within the 450MHz to 470MHz ljcensed band. The module transmitter is desiSned for Part 90 emission mask D - 12.5 kHz channel bandwidth equipment. Based upon the installation location and number of channels required, channel license leases are purchased for operation. After license frequencies are identified, these are configured during the manufacturing process prior to field installation. Tracciare has designed a family of products utilizing the same RF450 radio module for the utility marketplace. Allexisting configurations have been submitted fortesting verification and approval. The numbered requirements forequipment authorization are listed and addressed below. 1. The modular transmitter must have its own RF shieldin8. This is intended to ensure that the module does not have to rely upon the shielding provided by the device into which it is installed in order for all modula r transmitter emissions to comply with Part 15 limits. lt is also intended to prevent coupling between the RF circuitry of the module and any wires or circuits in the device into which the module is installed. Such coupling may result in non-compliant operation. The RF460 modulartransmitter provides its'own RF shielding. 2. The modular transmitter must have buffered modulation/data inputs (if such inputs are provided) to ensure that the module will comply with Part 15 requirements under conditions of excessive data rates or over-mod u lation. The RF45O modular transmitter has buffer modulation/data inputs provided by the RF transceiver antegrated circuit that ensures consistent modulation at the designed data fate. 3. The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation. This is intended to ensure that the module willcomply with Part 15 requjrements regardless ofthe design ofthe power supplying circuitry in the device into which the module is instatled. 156 Alta Mesa Dr-Fort Worth Texas 75108 4. 5. 6. Tracciare The RF460 modular transmitter must be supplied a volta8e of 2.7 to 3.6 VDC with a current requirement of up to 3 amperes. ln our application, the RF460 modular transmitter mates to an application specmc board which supplies the power regulation aequired for the RF46O modular transmitter. Tracciare has submitted all current configurations and their respedive power supplies for FCC testing. The electric meter configuration utilizes the Texas lnstruments tM3S1601 microcontroller and the utility confiEu.ation utilizes the Teras lnstruments MSP430F2350 microcontroller. lt is the intent that the RF460 modular transmitter limited modular approval request be limited to the above two microcontrclleas. The modular transmitter must comply with the antenna requirements of s€cdon 15.203 and 15.204(c). The antenna must either be permanently attached or employ a "!nique" antenna coupler (at all connections between the module and the antenna, including the cable). Any antenna used with the module must be approved with the module, either at the time of initial authorization orthrough a Class llpermissive change. The "professionalinstallation" provision of s€ction 15.203 may not be applied to modules. The RF460 modular tra nsm itter is a Pan 90 licensed device. The anten na connection from the RF450 module is a custom 50 ohm impedance trace. The modular trdnsmitter must b€ tested in a stand-alone configuration, i.e., the module must not be inside another device during testing. Ihis is intended to demonstrate that the module is capable of complying with Part 15 emission limits regardless of the device into which it is eventually installed. Unless the transmitter module will be battery powered, it must comply with the AC line conducted requirements found in Section 15.207. AC or DC power lines and data inpuvoutput lines connected to the module must not contain ferrites, unless they will be marketed with the module {s€e Section 15.27(a)). the length of these lines shal, be length typicalof adual use or, ifthat length is unknown, at least 10 centimeters to insure that there is no coupling between the case of the module and supporting equipment. Any accessories, periph€rals, or suppoft equipment connected to the module during testing shall be unmodifiedorcommerciallyavailable (seeSection 15.31(i)). The RF45O modular tEnsmitter has been tested in a stand-alone configu€tion as well as all existing configurations per the above requirements. The modular transmitter must be labeled with its own FCC lD number, and, ifthe FCC ID is not visible when the module is installed inside another device, then the outside ofthe device into which the module is installed must also display a label referring to the enclosed module. This exteriot label can use wording such as the following: "Contains Transmitter Module FCC lD: XrZMODELI" or "Contains FCC lD: XrZMODELl." Any similarwording that exprcsses the same meaning may be used. The Grantee may eithea prcvide such a label, an example of which must be included in the application for equipment authorization, or, must provide adequate instructions along with the module which explain this requirement. ln the latter case, a copy ofthese instructions must be included in the application forequipment authorization. 156 Alta Mesa Dr.Fort Worth Texas 76108 Tracciare The RF460 modular transminer will be identmed internally eithe. by label on the module shield or etching on the shield cover itself per rcC requkements. The final configuration will display an exterior lab€l per FCC requirements. 't. The modular transmitter must comply with any specific rule or op€rating requirements applicable …
