SGS North America Inc. 620 Old Peachtree Road SUITE 100 Suwanee, Georgia 30024 United States FCC COVERED LIST DECLARATION LETTER Applicant Legal Business NameTK Engineering Oy AddressHovioikeudenpuistikko 13 A, 65100 Vaasa, Finland FRN0037186749 Grantee Code2BQHKFCC ID:2BQHKTCS-10 Authorized Contact NameTimo Kesti Contact Phone+358 6 357 6300Contact [email protected] TK Engineering Oy (“the applicant”) certifies: -the equipment for which authorization is sought is not “covered” equipment prohibited from receiving an equipment authorization pursuant to section 2.903 of the FCC rules. -as of the date of the filing of the application, the applicant is not identified on the Covered list, established pursuant to §1.50002, as an entity producing “covered” equipment. -the software to be loaded prior to marketing of the equipment identified above is not “covered” software manufactured by any entity including predecessors, successors, parents, subsidiaries, affiliates or any entity which has rebranded or relabeled the software produced by the entity(ies) identified on the “Covered List”. -the device is not capable of storing or running software listed on the covered list and therefore is inherently compliant. Covered List Software Compliance Justification The equipment for which authorization is sought is inherently compliant and incapable of either storing or executing software found on the “covered list”, due to its hardware architecture. 1. Device Overview -Name: TKE TCS-10 CAN Switch / Bridge -Model: TCS-10 -FCC ID: 2BQHKTCS-10 -Main processor: MC9S12XDP512 (NXP/Freescale’s HCS12X family) -Operating system: None (bare metal firmware) -Highest internal clock frequency: 80 MHz -Memory: -Flash: 512 kB -RAM: 32 kB -EEPROM: 4 kB -Connectivity: -5 CAN 2.0 A/B interfaces (ISO11898-2) -1 DC power connector, 10-40V 2. Technical Limitations Preventing “Covered List” Software Storage or Execution -No General-Purpose Operating System -The CAN switch uses fixed-purpose firmware written in C and compiled for the MC9S12XDP512 architecture. No Linux, Windows, Android or other general-purpose OS is present. -Limited Memory -The CAN switch only features the internal memory of the microcontroller, which is insufficient to store any “covered list” software. -No File System or Loader -No mechanism to load arbitrary executable code from storage or network. -No Internet or IP Communication -Communications are limited to CAN interfaces and the CAN protocol. -The CAN switch doesn’t feature any antennas or wireless networking interfaces. -Firmware update requires physical access -Firmware can be flashed to the device via the programming pins. This requires physical access to the device, as well as disassembly of the device housing as these pins are not exposed to the outside. -Firmware can be flashed to the device using the built-in bootloader. This requires physical access to the device, as this is only possible through the service/configuration CAN port, which under normal operating conditions is left unconnected. 3. Conclusion Based on the hardware, software and connectivity characteristics of the CAN switch, it is technically incapable of storing or executing any “covered list” software, and is therefore inherently compliant with FCC § 2.911(d)(5)(i) requirements.
