Users Manual

12.USERSMANUAL 1 SCH-410/411 Series CDMA DIGITAL PORTABLE CELLULAR TELEPHONE User’s Manual Please read this manual before operating the phone, and keep it for future reference. 2 Safety Precautions Compliance with Safety Standards The Samsung CDMA Cellular Phone meets all standards and recommendations for the protection of the public from exposure to radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy established by governmental bodies and other qualified organizations. To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious personal injury, or property damage, please follow these guidelines: Driving Using a wireless phone while driving is illegal in some states and countries. Know the laws and regulations for your area, and pull off the road and park if you need to make a call. If you must use the phone while driving, purchase and install the optional Hands-Free Car Kit. Electronic Devices Your wireless telephone is a radio transmitter and receiver. When the power is on, the phone receives and sends out RF energy. Most modern electronic equipment, such as equipment in hospitals and cars, contains an RF signal shield. RF energy may affect some inadequately shielded electronic equipment. Turn off your phone in health care facilities, and always request permission before using the phone near medical equipment. Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such as pacemakers and hearing aids, to determine if they are shielded adequately from external RF signals. Note if there are any regulations posted in the area regarding the operation of wireless phones, and learn where you can use them safely within the facility. Aircraft Turn off your phone before boarding any aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that you have prior permission from the crew to use your phone while the plane is on the ground. FCC regulations prohibit using your phone while the plane is in the air. Do not use your phone at any time while traveling on board a plane. Blasting Areas Construction crews often use remote-control RF devices to set off explosives. To avoid interfering with blasting operations, turn off your phone when you are in a blasting area or in any area with signs posted that read “Turn off two-way radio.” 3 Other Dangerous Areas Turn off your phone in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It is rare, but your phone or its accessories could generate sparks, which could cause explosion or fire. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere may not always be clearly marked. These areas may include: ü Fueling areas, such as gas stations ü Below deck on boats ü Fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities ü Areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such as grain, dust, or metal powders ü Any other area where you would normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine Do not transport or store flammable gas, liquid, or explosives in the compartment of a vehicle containing your phone or accessories. FCC/IC Notice This device compiles with part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two condition: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. 4 Getting Started Introduction to SCH-410/411 Congratulations on the purchase of your new CDMA cellular phone. October 19, 1998 Federal Communications Commission Equipment Approval Services 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Attn: Kwok Chan SUBJECT:SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. FCC ID: A3LSCH411 731 Confirmation No.: EA91633 Correspondence ID: 4084 Request for Tech. Info.: 10/16/98 Dear Greg: Transmitted herewith, on behalf of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is an amendment provided in response to the request for technical information dated October 16, 1998? Please find attached data sheets demonstrating ERP Data compliance to 0.60 Watts (AMPS) and 0.32 Watts (CDMA). Note that this phone is fully programmable and Samsung will adjust these levels to match the 731. Since worst case spurious data has been submitted we only remeasured the ERP at a lower Tx AGC setting. Also, please find attached the photo demonstrating the distance of the antenna from the phantom. The distance from the outer shell of the helix to the center of the whip antenna is 0.3 cm. and the distance of separation caused by the ear of the phantom is 0.5 cm. Allowing for a worst case thickness of the phantom “skin” at 0.15 gives a total of 2.15 cm. After tilting the phone to meet the requirements of supplement C there is a total displacement of 2.7 cm. I believe that you may want the distance from the outer shell of the phantom's ear to the outer plastic coating of the helix, which is 1.75 cm. We will use this measurement procedure in future applications. We trust this information is sufficient for the immediate grant of this application. cc:Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
