The ESN is plated from fraudulent contact and tampering. The ESN is encoded using multiplication by a polynomial and the ESN data programmed in the memory with other information. c) The ESN is factory set and cannot be altered, transferred, removed or otherwise able to be manipulated. Cellular mobile equipment is specifically designed such that any attempt to remove, tamper with, or change the ESN chip, its logic system, or firmware originally programmed by the manufacturer will render the mobile transmitter inoperative. The attachment(s) to the application is (are) identified as "PCTEST Operational Description" is marked confidential. This report contains trade secrets and commercial information that are customarily guarded from competitors and are never released to the public. Section 0.457(d)(2) stipulates that such material will be withheld from routine inspection if it is shown that the material contains the type of information specified in the preceding statement. Specifically, the PCTEST Operational Description contains processes and procedures developed by PCTest Lab that enable RF Exposure tests performed at PCTest Lab to meet the stringent requirements of the most recent FCC released Supplement C guidelines for performing such measurements. Disclosure of this information to competitors will result in material harm to PCTest Lab. In compliance with the provisions of Section 0.457(d) stipulating that test measurements will be made available to the public following the effective date of the authorization, PCTest Lab has separated the measurement data required to show compliance with the RF Exposure requirements in a separate file identified as "SAR Measurement Data" that will be available for public inspection following the effective date of the authorization. Please contact the undersigned by telephone at 410-290-6652, or by email at [email protected] or by correspondence at the above address if there are any further questions or additional information needed concerning this request for confidentiality. June 18, 2002 Federal Communications Commission Equipment Approval Services 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Attn: Mr. Martin Perrine SUBJECT: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. FCC ID: A3LSPHA512 731 Confirmation No.: TC853134 Correspondence Reference No.: 4336 Request for Tech. Info.: 6/06/02 Dear Martin: Transmitted herewith, on behalf of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is an amendment provided in response to the request for technical information dated June 6, 2002. 1. Please find attached the retested SAR Test data for the CDMA right head cheek position using the slim battery. 2. The PCTEST Lab ALIDX-500 system version 4.08 has calibration software built into the system. This software is commercially available from IDX and is used by PCTEST Lab for calibrating probes used with the IDX system. The probe was calibrated according to IEEE std 1528-200x (A.3.2.2.). The validation dipole construction procedures followed the IEEE std. 1528. 3. PCTEST Lab is currently reviewing the document for which they requested confidentiality to insure that it conforms to the requirements of the FCC rules for withholding information. Test data that is contained in the report has been left in the report to facilitate review of the report by the FCC. However, the test data contained in this section has been duplicated and submitted in a public file along with the SAR plots. The “PCTEST operational description SAR report” contains confidential business information that PCTEST Lab does not release to the public and accordingly does not wish to have made available to the public via the FCC files. PCTEST Lab is aware that the issue of confidential treatment of this report is under review by the OET legal counsel and possibly by the Office of General Counsel of the Commission. Pending a decision by the appropriate authorities, PCTEST Lab will continue to request confidential treatment of the file identified as “PCTEST operational description SAR Report”. In the event PCTEST Lab accepts the decision, we will not pursue continued confidential treatment of the report and will assist the Lab in any way possible regarding correcting existing records. 4. Please find attached the revised operational description of CDMA mode. 5. EXAMPLE: Channel 0363 mode 2 nd harmonic (1671.78 MHz). The receive analyzer reading at 3 meters with the EUT on the turn table was —91.8 dBm. The gain of the substitute antenna is 6.1 dBd. The signal generator connected to the substituted antenna terminals is adjusted to produce a reading of -91.8 dBm on the receive analyzer. The cable loss of the cable between the signal generator and the terminals of the substituted antenna is 1.0 dB at 1671.78 MHz. So 5.1 dB is added to the signal generator reading of —51.77 dBm yielding —46.67 dBm. The fundamental ERP was 25.833 dBm so this harmonic was 25.833 dBm — (-46.67 dBm) = 72.5 dBc. We trust this information is sufficient to resolve FCC questions in this application. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. cc: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
