DESCRIPTION OF TEST EQUIPMENT 3.1 SAR Measurement Setup Robotic System Measurements are performed using the DASY4 automated dosimetric assessment system. Which is made by Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG) in Zurich, Switzerland and consists of high precision robotics system (Stäubli), robot controller, measurement server, Samsung computer, near- field probe, probe alignment sensor, and the SAM twin phantom containing the brain equivalent material. The robot is a six-axis industrial robot performing precise movements to position the probe to the location (points) of maximum electromagnetic field (EMF) (see Fig. 3.1). Figure 3.1 SAR Measurement System Setup System Hardware A cell controller system contains the power supply, robot controller, teach pendant (Joystick), and a remote control is used to drive the robot motors. The PC consists of the Samsung computer with Windows XP system and SAR Measurement Software DASY4, LCD monitor, mouse and keyboard. The Stäubli Robot is connected to the cell controller to allow software manipulation of the robot. A data acquisition electronic (DAE) circuit that performs the signal amplification, signal multiplexing, AD-conversion, offset measurements, mechanical surface detection, collision detection, etc. is connected to the Electro-optical coupler (EOC). Measurement Procedure The radiated and spurious measurements were made Fully-anechoic chamber at a 3-meter test range (see Figure2). The equipment under testing was placed on a Non-conducted turntable 3- meters from the receive antenna. The receive antenna height and turntable rotations were adjusted for the highest reading on the receive spectrum analyzer. The substitution antenna will replace the EUT antenna it the same position and in vertical polarization. The frequency of the signal generator shall be set to the frequencies that were measured on the EUT. The test antenna shall be raised and lowered, if necessary, to ensure that the maximum signal is still being received. The signal generator, output level, shall be adjusted until an equal or a known related level to what was measured from the EUT is obtained in the spectrum analyzer. This level was recorded. For readings above 1 GHz, the above procedure is repeated using horn antennas and the difference between the gain of the horn and an isotropic antenna are taken into consideration. Figure1. DESCRIPTION OF TESTS 5.1 Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power Test Set-up for the EIRP TEST Effective Radiated Power Output and Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power Measurements by Substitution Method according to ANSI/TIA/EIA-603-A-2001, Aug. 15, 2001: The EUT was placed on a Non-conducted turntable 3-meters from the receive antenna. The receive antenna height and turntable rotation was adjusted for the highest reading on the receive spectrum analyzer. For GSM signals, an average detector is used, with RBW=VBW=3MHz, SPAN=10MHz. A Horn antenna (for readings above 1GHz) was substituted in place of the EUT. This Horn antenna was driven by a signal generator and the level …

Power output listed is EIRP. SAR compliance for body-worn operating configurations is based on a separation distance of 1.5 cm between the back of the unit and the body of the user. End-users must be informed of the body-worn operating requirements for satisfying RF exposure compliance. Belt clips or holsters may not contain metallic components. SAR compliance was evaluated with the integral Bluetooth active. The highest reported SAR values are: Head: 0.458 W/kg; Body-worn: 0.653 W/kg. This device also contains 900 MHz GSM, 1800 MHz DCS and 1900 MHz WCDMA functions that are not operational in U.S. Territories.
