August 13, 2002 Federal Communications Commission Equipment Approval Services 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Attn: Mr. Andy Leimer SUBJECT: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. FCC ID: A3LSP10BT 731 Confirmation No.: TC920247 Correspondence Reference No.: 4676 Request for Tech. Info.: 7/17/02 Dear Andy: Transmitted herewith, on behalf of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is an amendment provided in response to the request for technical information dated July 17, 2002. 1. We confirm the conducted power could not be measured. 2. The EIRP for channel 40 (2441 MHz) was measured at a 3 meter distance on our OATS. The turn table and antenna mast were adjusted to obtain the highest reading on a receiver spectrum analyzer with RBW and VBW set at 3MHz each. A horn antenna driven by a signal generator was substituted in place of the EUT and adjusted to match the —50.42 dBm receiver spectrum analyzer reading. (The horn antenna used during the substitution has a gain of 8.7 dBi at 2441 MHz.). The power at the antenna terminals of the substituted horn was —14.4 dBm. This value was corrected by adding the 8.7 dBi gain of the horn to yield —5.8 dBm for EIRP. 3. To measure the spectral density of channel 40 the same procedure that was used in item #2 was followed but the VBW and RBW were set at 3 kHZ each and the sweep time was set at 1000 Seconds. The power at the antenna terminals of the substituted horn was —27.7 dBm. This value was corrected by adding the 8.7 dBi gain of the horn to yield —19 dBm. 4. Please find attached the revised RF exposure exhibit stating that SAR evaluation is not needed for this device. 5. Please find the revised copy of the Grant deleting the second sentence of the Grant condition. We trust this information is sufficient to resolve FCC questions in this application. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. cc: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

RF Exposure Measurement 1. Introduction 2.4 GHz frequency band is regarded specially as a dangerous band for its heating harmfulness to the human body. That’s why microwave oven is operating in this frequency band. The manufacturer whose product is working in this frequency band is obligatory to prove the harmfulness of this product. In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1210 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured by power meter. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. 2. RF Exposure Limit According to FCC 1.1310: The criteria listed in the following table shall be used to evaluate the environmental impact of human exposure to radio-frequency (RF) radiation as specified in 1.1307(b). LIMITS FOR MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE (MPE) Frequency Range (MHz) Electric Field Strength (V/m) Magnetic Field Strength (A/m) Power Density (mW/cm 2 ) Average Time (Minutes) (A) Limits For Occupational / Control Exposures 300-1500 ... ... F/300 6 1500-100,000 ... ... 5 6 (B) Limits For General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure 300-1500 ... ... F/1500 6 1500-100,000 ... ... 1.0 30 F = Frequency in MHz 3. Friis Formula Friis transmission formula: Pd = (Pout*G) / (4πr 2 ) Where Pd = power density in mW/cm 2 Pout = output power to antenna in mW G = gain of antenna in linear scale π = 3.1416 R = distance between observation point and center of the radiator in cm Pd is the limit of MPE, 1 mW/cm2. If we know the maximum Gain of the antenna and the total power input to the antenna, through the calculation, we will know the distance r where the MPE limit is reached. Ref.: David K. Cheng, Field and Wave Electromagnetics, Second Edition, Page 640, Eq. (11.133) 4. EUT Operating Condition Software provided by the client enabled the EUT to transmit and receive data at lowest, middle, and highest channel individually. 5. Climate Condition The temperature and related humidity: 22 ̊C and 78% RH 6. Test Results (Antenna Configuration) 6.1 Output Power into Antenna & RF Exposure Distance: Channel Channel Frequency (MHz) Output Power to Antenna (mW) Minimum Allowable Distance from Skin (cm) 79 2480 0.293 0.150
RF EXPOSURE MEASUREMENT Since the power output of the EUT is below the low threshold, as specified in Appendix A of the TCB Exclusion List, no RF exposure measurement is needed.
