Users Manual

Model IR34A IconRemote ™ Owner’s Manual 23 THIS DEVICE COMPLIES WITH PART 15 OF THE FCC RULES. OPERATION IS SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING TWO CONDITIONS: (1) THIS DEVICE MAY NOT CAUSE HARMFUL INTERFERENCE, AND (2) THIS DEVICE MUST ACCEPT ANY INTERFERENCE RECEIVED, INCLUDING INTERFERENCE THAT MAY CAUSE UNDESIRED OPERATION. This equipment generates and uses radio frequency energy, and if not installed and used properly, that is, in strict accordance with the manufacturers instructions, it may cause interference to radio and television reception. It has been type tested and found to comply with the limits for remote control devices in accordance with the specifications in Sub-Parts B and C of Part 15 of FCC Rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference in a residential installation. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by unplugging the equipment, try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: • Reorient the antenna of the radio/TV experiencing the interference. • Relocate the interface with respect to the radio/TV. • Move the interface away from the radio/TV. • Plug the interface into an outlet on a different electrical circuit from the radio/TV experiencing the interference. • If necessary, consult your local Dealer for additional suggestions. NOTE: Modifications to any of the components in this kit will void the user’s authority to operate this equipment. FCC Caution Remember to exercise good common sense when using the Home Automation features of your remote - especially when scheduling unattended devices. There can be some unexpected consequences if not used with care. For example, an empty coffee pot can be remotely turned on. If that should happen, your coffee pot could be damaged from overheating. If an electric heater is turned on by remote control while clothing is draped over it, a fire could result. DO NOT USE the remote for the control of high power heating appliances such as portable heaters. Caution: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble any part of the Home Automation System’s plug-in Modules or Controllers. No user serviceable parts are inside. If you spill liquid on a unit, disconnect the unit from the AC outlet to prevent possible fire or shock hazard and consult authorized service personnel. Powerline operated equipment or accessories connected to any of these units should bear the UL listing or CSA certification mark and should not have been modified in any way that might defeat their safety features. Warning: To prevent electric shock hazard, do not expose any part of the Home Automation System to rain or moisture. SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS 45 Congratulations on your purchase of the IR34A IconRemote. The IR34A IconRemote has the ability to combine many types of remotes into a single remote. It has many unique features that are available through the high quality color screen and the configurable menus. The screen displays icons that are easily set up to represent your favorite channels. You can select any channel by simply pressing the key next to the icon that represents the channel. The IR34A IconRemote may provide additional functions that are not available on your device, and there may be functions (e.g., menu functions) that initially may not be controlled by the remote; but in such cases, the IR34A IconRemote can easily learn the commands from your original remote. The IR34A IconRemote remote is capable of many other features that are also described in this manual. The IR34A IconRemote can also control X10 RF devices, which allows you to control different electrical devices located in various physical locations around the house, using radio frequency (RF) signals. This gives you the freedom to control devices that are not in the same physical location as the remote. The IR34A IconRemote is very intuitive and has built- in Help, but it’s very useful to become familiar with the remote by first reading this manual. After you’ve become familiar with the IconRemote, the first thing you need to do is to install the batteries and setup your remote using the on-screen instructions. Thank you for purchasing this remote, and we trust that it will give you many years of service. Operational Description

IR34A Icon remote circuit description The 4MHz resonator act as an oscillation clock to the 128K MCU and the 32.768KHz crystal provide an oscillation clock to the LCD MCU. The modulation provided by the 128K MCU. The output of RF circuitry has the matching network consisting of inductor and capacitor that limit the harmonic content and effect the proper coupling of the antenna to the output stage. Antenna, Ground and Power Source The antenna consists of a 17cm long enameled wire antenna for 418MHz and 11cm long enameled wire antenna for 310MHz. . There is no external ground connection. The ground is only that of the printed circuit board. Electric current is supplied by a 4.5 Volt (“ AA ” size battery x 3) primary battery. Operation Descriptions The transmitter is a battery operating at 310 and 418MHz band. The transmitter is powered by a 4.5V battery (“AA” size battery x 3). When remote in x10 device mode, It will modulating signal on the 310MHz carrier frequency. Other then x10 device mode (like TV, VCR...etc), the modulating signal will on the 418MHz carrier frequency. The transmitter is a ON/OFF keying type transmitter. The EUT continues to transmit while keyboard is being pressed.
