Carrying and Handling iPhone iPhone contains sensitive components. Do not drop, disassemble, open, crush, bend, deform, puncture, shred, microwave, incinerate, paint, or insert foreign objects into iPhone. Do not use iPhone if it has been damaged—for example, if iPhone is cracked, punctured, or damaged by water. The front and back covers of iPhone are made of glass. This glass could break if iPhone is dropped on a hard surface or receives a substantial impact or is crushed, bent, or deformed. If the glass chips or cracks, do not touch or attempt to remove the broken glass. Stop using iPhone until the glass is replaced by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Glass cracked due to misuse or abuse is not covered under the warranty. If you are concerned about scratching or abrasion, you can use one of the many cases sold separately. Keeping the Outside of iPhone Clean Clean iPhone immediately if it comes into contact with any contaminants that may cause stains, such as ink, dyes, makeup, dirt, food, oils, and lotions. To clean iPhone, unplug all cables and turn off iPhone (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, and then slide the onscreen slider). Then use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don’t use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean iPhone. The front and back glass surfaces have an oleophobic coating. To remove fingerprints, simply wipe these surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth. The ability of this coating to repel oil will diminish over time with normal usage, and rubbing the screen with an abrasive material will further diminish its effect and may scratch the glass. Avoiding Water and Wet Locations Do not use iPhone in rain, or near washbasins or other wet locations. Take care not to spill any food or liquid on iPhone. In case iPhone gets wet, unplug all cables, turn off iPhone (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, and then slide the onscreen slider) before cleaning, and allow it to dry thoroughly before turning it on again. Do not attempt to dry iPhone with an external heat source, such as a microwave oven or hair dryer. Damage to iPhone caused by contact with liquid is not covered under the warranty. FCC Hearing‐Aid Compatibility (HAC) Regulations for Wireless Devices On July 10, 2003, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Report and Order in WT Docket 01‐ 309 modified the exception of wireless phones under the Hearing Aid Compatibility Act of 198 (HAC Act) to require digital wireless phones be compatible with hearing‐aids. The intent of the HAC Act is to ensure reasonable access to telecommunications services for persons with hearing disabilities. While some wireless phones are used near some hearing devices (hearing aids and cochlear implants), users may detect a buzzing, humming, or whining noise. Some hearing devices are more immune than others to this interference noise, and phones also vary in the amount of interference they generate. The wireless telephone industry has developed a rating system for wireless phones, to assist hearing device users find phones that may be compatible with their hearing devices. Not all phones have been rated. Phones that are rated have the rating on their box or a label located on the box. The ratings are not guarantees. Results will vary depending on the user’s hearing device and hearing loss. If your hearing device happens to be vulnerable to interference, you may not be able to use a rated phone successfully. Trying out the phone with your hearing device is the best way to evaluate it for your personal needs. M‐Ratings: Phones rated M3 or M4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to generate less interference to hearing devices than phones that are not rated. M4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. Model A1349 is rated M4. T‐Ratings: Phones rated T3 or T4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to be more usable with a hearing aid’s telecoil than phones that are not rated. T4 is the better/higher of the two ratings. Model A1349 is rated T4. Safety and regulatory guide The handset has not been rated for hearing aid compatibility with respect to the Wi‐Fi capability. Please power off the Bluetooth function while using hearing aid devices with A1349. NEWER WIRELESS TECHNOLOGIES iPhone has been tested and rated for use with hearing aids for some of the wireless technologies that it uses. However, there may be some newer wireless technologies used in iPhone that have not been tested yet for use with hearing aids. It is important to try the different features of this phone thoroughly and in different locations, using your hearing aid or cochlear implant, to determine if you hear any interfering noise. Consult your service provider about its return and exchange policies and for information on hearing aid compatibility. Hearing devices may also be rated. Your hearing device manufacturer or hearing health professional may help you find this rating. Higher ratings mean that the hearing device is relatively immune to interference noise. The hearing aid and wireless phone rating values are then added together. A sum of 5 is considered acceptable for normal use. A sum of 6 is considered for better use. A sum of 8 is considered for best use. Normal Usage: 4+1=5 Better Usage: 4+2 =6 Best Usage: 4+4=8 In the above example, if a hearing aid meets the M2 level rating and the wireless phone meets the M4 level rating, the sum of the two values equal M6. This should provide the hearing aid user with “better usage” while using their hearing aid with the particular wireless phone. “Better usage” in this context is defined as a signal quality that is acceptable for better than normal operation. This methodology applies equally for T ratings. The M mark is intended to be synonymous with the U mark. The T mark is intended to be synonymous with the UT mark. The M and T marks are recommended by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industries Solutions (ATIS). The U and UT marks M4 + M1 M4 + M2 M4 + M4 are referenced in Section 20.19 of the FCC Rules. The HAC rating and measurement procedure are described in the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) C63.19 standard.
