Appendix H: Antenna Cluster Analysis This device supports Cellular Antenna Clustering for transmission of Power Mode B. Collocated cellular antennas with significant overlap of RF exposure hotspots are grouped into a single cluster. Non-collocated cellular antennas are grouped in a separate cluster. Non-collocated clusters operate with independent cellular budget allocations. This operation is managed by the cellular time-averaging implementation. Cellular antennas 1/3/7/9 are assigned to the Lower Antenna Cluster (AC1). Cellular antennas 2/4/8 are assigned to the Upper Antenna Cluster (AC2). All Antenna Clustering analysis was performed using a WWAN (AC1) + WWAN (AC2) combination. Connectivity was also considered to ensure total device compliance. Cellular Antennas Connectivity Antennas AC1AC2 ANT 1/3/7/9ANT 2/4/8 ANT 3/5ANT 4/6 The following procedure was performed in order to determine compliance for Simultaneous Analysis: 1. Sum of SAR: a. Sum of SAR is performed on all unique band and antenna combinations between AC1 and AC2. b. Any combination where the sum is โค the applicable RF exposure limit is validated and can be excluded from further evaluation. Any configuration where the sum is > the applicable RF exposure limit requires further evaluation per the following steps. 2. SPLSR: a. SPLSR is performed for combinations from Step 1 that are > the applicable RF exposure limit. b. The overall minimum separation distance between peak SAR points of each cluster is used for assessment, per each unique band combined. c. When the SPLSR calculation is โค the applicable published SPLSR limit, no further assessment is required. Any configuration where the SPLSR calculation is > the applicable published SPLSR limit requires further evaluation per the following step. 3. Multi-Tx Combined Measurement: a. Multi-Tx combined measurement is performed for combinations from Step 2 that are > the applicable published SPLSR limit. b. The area scans for each combination from Step 2 that was > the applicable published SPLSR limit were used. The combined area scan is used to determine the point of peak SAR. c. Zoom scans are performed for the overall worst case WWAN and Connectivity configurations from the Area Scan analysis, per each unique band combination, at the location with the highest peak SAR. These zoom scans are combined to determine the overall measured 1g aggregate SAR value. d. The overall measured 1g aggregate SAR value must be compliant to the regulatory SAR limit to validate non-collocation. Conclusion: When following the procedure outlined above, if the device is within the thresholds for any of the three steps, then the device is determined to be compliant for Simultaneous Analysis. 1. Introduction The DUT supports time-averaged SAR (TAS) technology for the WLAN transmitters. This algorithm only applies to WLAN; Bluetooth is not controlled by a TAS algorithm. Consistent with FCC guidance on compliance with time averaging exposure limits, the TAS implementation manages the transmitter power level and ensures that the DUT does not exceed the average power levels documented in UL FCC SAR report 15941282-S1. To validate the proper functioning of the time-average algorithm of this device, the following test scenarios were performed. These scenarios define the operation of the algorithm in all operational states: 1. Band, Antenna, and P Limit Switching: Switching between different bands, antennas and device operating states on a given cluster Predefined transmit profiles for each test scenario were created in test automation software to control the operation of the DUT while synchronized operation data was recorded from internal firmware and external power monitors. The DUT WLAN chipset applies a 1.5 dB uncertainty budget to all power control functions. Test scenarios were agreed upon with the FCC via KDB inquiry. 1.2. Test Setup The DUT does not support SDB. For Non-SDB measurements, switching occurs between antennas at 120 seconds during the observation window. WLAN TAS Verification Test Results The TAS implementation uses the total WLAN utilization ratio over a nominal 60 second time window to manage the transmitter power level and ensure that the DUT does not exceed the average power levels documented in UL FCC SAR report 15941282-S1. 1.3.1. Scenario 1: Band, Antenna & P Limit Switching Test Cases The evaluation in Figure 1 shows switching between antennas on the 2.4 GHz band on Cell Off (P2) and 5 GHz band Cell On (P1) at Time = 120 seconds. Both antennas are on the same cluster. In Figure 1, the instantaneous powers measured on power meters P1 and P2 do not exceed the P Max . Figure 2 demonstrates the compliance of the normalized powers against the normalized P Limit . P1 and P2 refer to the power meters being used, so P1 refers to the power meter measuring 5 GHz, and P2 refers to the power meter measuring 2.4 GHz.
