If your computer has both a digital video port and an analog video port, we recommend using the digital video connection. Analog port Digital port 4 Chapter 1: Using Your Flat Panel Monitor www.gateway.com 5 Connect the power cord to the power connector on the underside of the monitor. 6 Return the monitor to its upright position. 7 Make sure your computer is turned off, then connect the end of the attached video cable to the matching video port on the back of your computer (analog video connectors shown). 5 Installing the monitor www.gateway.com 8 Plug the other end of the power cord into a properly grounded electrical outlet. 6 Chapter 1: Using Your Flat Panel Monitor www.gateway.com Starting the monitor To start the monitor: 1 Press the power button once. The LED on the button turns on. 2 Turn on the computer. 3 After the computer is running, the LED on the power button should be green. Allow about 10 seconds for the video signal to appear. If the power LED is not green or you do not see a video signal, check the connections. For more troubleshooting information, see “Troubleshooting” on page 15. 4 Adjust the tilt of the panel for the best viewing angle. 5 Adjust the controls to get the best picture. If your monitor uses an analog connection, press the button to automatically adjust your display image to the ideal settings. Adjust other display settings by using the On-Screen Display (OSD). For more information, see “Adjusting display settings” on page 7. ImportantWhen adjusting your display settings, always press the button before entering the OSD. This will automatically adjust your display image to the ideal settings for the current screen resolution size (display mode). The optimal display mode is 1280 × 1024. Power button and LED 7 Adjusting display settings www.gateway.com Adjusting display settings You can adjust your display image by using external controls (located on the monitor itself) and software controls (accessible in Windows). External controls This monitor features an On-Screen Display (OSD) that lets you adjust and save contrast, brightness, and other settings for the display. The monitor saves changes you make to the settings, even if you turn off the monitor. OSD. Press to view the OSD. Press again to exit. Arrows. OSD active: Press to select or adjust OSD options. OSD inactive: Press and to adjust the contrast, and press once then and to adjust the brightness.
