American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 December 13, 2005 RE: ZyXEL Communications Co. FCC ID: I88G260 I have a few comments on this Application. Depending on your responses, kindly understand there may be additional comments. 1.) The RF Pout on Form 731 is listed as 89mW for 802.11b and 160mW for 802.11g. Is their possibly a typographical error? Usually the slower data rates of 802.11b provide higher power than any 802.11g. Please re-check your data again. 2.) The RF Pout specifications in the Manual (pp. 56) also are not in agreement with the Form 731. It simply seems unusual for a device to have a conducted RF Pout 3dB above the specified power. 3.) Since a SAR report has been provides, FCC requires the Manual to show the measured SAR values. Kindly indicate where I can find this information 4.) Again, the SAR report indicates that the highest value was found in 802.11b mode (pp. 3). Usually the highest Pout will produce the greatest SAR values. Please review your data. 5.) Please refer to Section 1.0 of the SAR report. Are you supplying a Pout measurement, or simply assuming the manufacturer’s declared power is true? William H. Graff President and Director of Engineering mailto: [email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.

1 William Graff From: Jerry Liu [[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2005 9:24 PM To: 'William Graff' Cc: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: RE: www.AmericanTCB.com ATCB003012 | I88G260 | | | I88G260_ATCB003012 Dear Bill, For average power, you are right, "g" side is usually rated 1 or 2 dB below the "b". However, according to our experience, when it comes to peak power, "g" side is mostly higher than "b". For this case, average power : 11b is 17dBm, 11g is 14dBm peak power : 11b is 19.5dBm, 11g is 22dBm it does make sense, doesn't it? The SAR values is listed in page 56 of the revised user's manual. Best regards, Jerry -----Original Message----- From: William Graff [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2005 11:17 AM To: [email protected]; 'JerryLiu (EMC) EMC-TPE (E-mail)' Cc: [email protected] Subject: www.AmericanTCB.com ATCB003012 | I88G260 | | | I88G260_ATCB003012 Importance: High Regarding www.AmericanTCB.com application: ATCB ID: ATCB003012 FCC ID: I88G260 IC ID: NB ID: Account name: ITSEMCTPE Jerry, JT, Thanks you for the updated manual. It seems to answer my question about the discrepancy about Pout and power listed on Form 731. However, many of my other questions remain unanswered. In all other cases of 802.11b/g I have ever seen the slower "b" side produced the highest Pout - especially at the slower data rates. Usually the OFDM "g" side is rated 1 or 2 dB below the "b". The fact that you are reporting "g" higher than "b" caught my attention. Can you please double check for me? Also, in almost every case where a SAR report is required, the FCC is now wanting to see the actual tested SAR values either in the Manual, or on some sort of informational sheet supplied to the consumer inside the box. Please show me how you are informing the end user of the SAR values. I am as anxious to clear this filing as you. Please provide these corrections as soon as possible. 2 Bill ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ William H.
