A Printed in Taiwan 190-00284-00_Prelim_FCC.indd b9/18/2003, 3:50:41 PM i Introduction Preliminary Thank you for choosing the Garmin Rino (Radio Inte- grated with Navigation for the Outdoors). To get the most from your new Rino, take time to read through the Quick Start Guide fi rst, then this owner’s manual to understand all of the operating features. This Reference Manual describes the Main Pages of the Rino and their options in detail. The Quick Start Guide describes the process of navigating the Main Pages and the Option Menus, along with some basic unit operations to familiarize you with your new Rino right out of the box. While the Reference Manual provides some direction on how to select and change items, its main intention is to describe each Main Page and its Option Menu in detail. This manual is organized into three sections. The Introduction section provides FCC, safety, war- ranty, product registration information, and the Table of Contents. The Main Pages section (listed in same order as viewed on screen) provides details about using the features of the Rino according to topic. The explanations for each feature in this section are divided into: (1) An overview that discusses the feature and how it functions and (2) A detailed Step-by-Step instruction for using the feature. The Appendices include Specifi cations, Accesso- ries, Data Field Defi nitions, MapSource information, a Troubleshooting Guide, Wiring Diagram and a Time Offset Chart followed by the Index. Check to see that your package includes the following items. If any parts are missing, contact your Garmin dealer immediately. Operation of this device is subject to the following conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interfer- ence, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a par- ticular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. • Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is con- nected. • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. The Rino 130 does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Repairs should only be made by an authorized Garmin service center. Unauthorized repairs or modifi ca- tions could result in permanent damage to the equipment, and void your warranty and your authority to operate this device. FCC Licensing Information The Rino 130 two-way radio operates on General Mo- bile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies that are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. In order to transmit on these frequencies, you are required to obtain a license from the FCC. An individual 18 years of age or older, who is not a represen- tative of a foreign government, is eligible to apply for a 190-00284-00_Prelim_FCC.indd ii9/18/2003, 3:50:42 PM iii Introduction Preliminary Warnings & Precautions GMRS license. To apply for a GMRS license, you will need FCC Form 605 (605 Main Form and Schedule F) and FCC Form 159. You can download the application forms from the FCC web site at http://www…

September 8, 2003 Office of Engineering and Technology Federal Communications Commission Columbia, MD 21046 Equipment Approval Services P.O. Box 35815 Pittsburgh, PA 15251-3315 Applicant: Garmin International, Inc. 1200 East 151st Street Olathe, KS 66062 Re: Confidentiality for submittal information regarding FCC ID number IPH-00726 PRODUCT: FRS/GMRS UHF Transceiver operated under part 95. Dear Sirs: Garmin International, Inc. requests that the material in the Schematics, and Operational Description be withheld from public disclosure in accordance with Section 0.459 of the Commissions Rules, 47 C.F.R. 0.459 (1998), following grant of the application. In support of this request, Garmin International, Inc. submits the following: 1. Identification of the specific information for which confidential treatment is sought: The materials set fourth in the Operational Description, and Schematics, which are segregated from the non-confidential exhibits of the application, are those for which confidentiality is sought. 2. Identification of the Commission proceeding in which the information was submitted or a description of the circumstances giving rise to the submission: The proceeding is that involving the application for equipment authorization (certification) under FCC ID No: IPH-00726 3. Explanation of the degree to which the information is commercial or financial, or contains a trade secret or is privileged: This material includes a detailed theory of operation, circuit diagrams, and schematic. As such, this material is treated as highly confidential business information. 4. Explanation of the degree to which the information concerns a service that is subject to competition: ROGERS LABS, INC. 4405 West 259 th Terrace Louisburg, KS 66053 The material for which confidentiality is sought is employed in the design and manufacture of this transmitting equipment that is offered on a highly competitive basis. Customers for this equipment have a variety of competing sources. 5. Explanation of how disclosure of the information could result in substantial competitive harm: Disclosure would, in effect, give away the fruits of the labors of Garmin International, Inc.’s engineering personnel, who have designed the equipment and the manufacturing process. Disclosure would also offer competitors additional unwarranted insight into the state of the product development, thereby allowing competitors an advantage, not available to Garmin International, Inc. 6. Identification of any measures taken by the submitting party to prevent unauthorized disclosure: The information for which confidential treatment is sought is kept confidential by Garmin International, Inc. and not made available to third parties except pursuant to non-disclosure agreements. 7. Identification of whether the information is available to the public and the extent of any previous disclosure of the information to third parties: To the knowledge of those preparing this application, the information has not been disclosed publicly heretofore. While the general theory of operation of this equipment has been the subject of numerous disclosures in industry and standards groups as well as in rule making proceedings of the FCC, the protection sought is narrowly drawn and pertains to certain specific implementations of this radio technology. 8. Justification of the period during which the submitting party asserts that the material should not be available for public disclosure: This material should not be disclosed for at least 25 years. While improvements in design are made relatively frequently, disclosure of the design information would lead to insights into both design and manufacturing techniques that could have an adverse competitive effect for many years to come. This equipment is designed for commercial, industrial, and governmental applications. As such, unlike most consumer equipment, this equipment could be used for more than a decade in some cases. As such, it is important that the design not be made available to unauthorized persons who might attempt to use knowledge of the design to compromise the applications for which the equipment will be employed. Should you require any further information, please contact the undersigned. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Sincerely, Scot Rogers

Test Arrangement: The radio frequency output was coupled to a HP Spectrum Analyzer and a modulation meter. The spectrum analyzer was used to observe the radio frequency spectrum with the transmitter operating in its various modes. The modulation meter was used to measure the percent modulation or frequency deviation. Results: Figure 1 displays the graph made showing the audio frequency response of the modulator. The frequency generator was set to 1 kHz and injected into the audio input port of the EUT. The input voltage amplitude was adjusted to obtain 50% modulation at 1000 Hz. This level was then taken as the 0-dB reference. The frequency of the generator was then varied and the voltage input level recorded while holding the output modulation level constant.
