Connecting the Device to Vehicle Power ‹ WARNING This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent the possibility of personal injury or product damage caused by battery exposure to extreme heat, remove the device from the vehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight. Charge your device before using it on battery power. 1. Fit the bottom of your device into the mount. 2. Plug the vehicle power cable into the mini-USB connector ➊ on the mount ➋. ➋ ➊ 4. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. After the device has been connected to vehicle power, the following actions occur. • The device turns on. • The device acquires satellite signals. When at least one of the bars is green, your device has acquired satellite signals. NOTE: The device may need a clear view of the sky to acquire satellite signals. • The device charges as you drive. in the status bar indicates the status of the internal battery. Mounting Your Device NOTICE Before mounting the device, see the Important Safety and Product Information guide for information about laws pertaining to windshield mounting. 1. Press the suction cup to the windshield. 4. While pressing, flip the lever back toward the windshield. 5. Setting Up myDashboard 1. Connect the USB cable to the micro-USB connector on the device. 2. Connect the USB cable to the USB port on your computer. 3. Double-click to open the myDashboard Web page. NOTE: If does not appear, or you are using Windows ® 7 or a Mac ® computer, go to www .garmin.com/dashboard. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. Registering the Device 1. Follow the on-screen instructions. nüMaps Guarantee ™ Your device is eligible for one free map update within 60 days of acquiring satellites while driving with your device. You are not eligible for the free map update if you register by phone or wait longer than 60 days after the first time you acquire satellites while driving with your device. For more information, go to www.garmin.com/numaps. Updating Maps 1. Open myDashboard (page 4). 2. Register the device (page 4). 3. Under Map Updates, click Update Now. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. Downloading the Owner’s Manual The owner’s manual for your device is available on the Garmin Web site. 1. Open myDashboard (page 4). 2. Register the device (page 4). 3. Click Manuals. A list of the product manuals in several languages appears. 4. Click Download next to the manual you want. 5. Hold the Power key for four seconds. 2. Touch Off. Resetting the Device You can reset your device if it stops functioning. Press and hold the power key for 10 seconds. Adjusting the Screen Brightness 1. Touch Tools > Settings > Display > Brightness. 2. Touch and move the scroll bar to adjust screen brightness. About Points of Interest The detailed maps loaded in your device contain points of interest, such as restaurants, hotels, and auto services. Finding a Point of Interest by Category 1. From the main menu, select Where To? > Points of Interest. 2. Select a category. 3. If necessary, select a subcategory. 4. Select a destination. 5. NOTE: You must have cityXplorer ™ maps loaded to navigate using public transit. Go to www.garmin.com to purchase cityXplorer maps. 7. If necessary, select a route. Installation and Operation Warnings • When installing the device in a vehicle, place the device securely so it does not obstruct the driver’s view of the road or interfere with vehicle operating controls, such as the steering wheel, the foot pedals, or the transmission levers. Do not place the device in front of or above any airbag. (See diagram.) Do not mount where driver’s field of vision is blocked. Do not place unsecured on the vehicle dashboard. Do not mount in front of an airbag field of deployment. • The windshield mount may not stay attached to the windshield in all circumstances. Do not place the mount where it will become a distraction if the mount should become detached. Keep your windshield clean to help ensure that the mount stays on the windshield. • Always use your best judgement, and operate the vehicle in a safe manner. Do not become distracted by the device while driving, and always be fully aware of all driving conditions. Minimize the amount of time spent viewing the device screen while driving and use voice prompts when possible. • Do not input destinations, change settings, or access any functions requiring prolonged use of the device controls while driving. Pull over in a safe and legal manner before attempting such operations. • When navigating, carefully compare information displayed on the device to all available navigation sources, including road signs, road closures, road conditions, traffic congestion, weather conditions, and other factors that may affect safety while driving. For safety, always resolve any discrepancies before continuing navigation, and defer to posted road signs and road conditions. • The device is designed to provide route suggestions. It is not a replacement for driver attentiveness and good judgement. Do not follow route suggestions if they suggest an unsafe or illegal maneuver or would place the vehicle in an unsafe situation. Health Warning This product, its packaging, and its components contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm. Battery Warnings If these guidelines are not followed, the internal lithium-ion battery may experience a shortened life span or may present a risk of damage to the GPS device, fire, chemical burn, electrolyte leak, and/or injury. • Do not leave the device exposed to a heat source or in a high-temperature location, such as in the sun in an unattended vehicle. To prevent the possibility of damage caused by battery exposure to extreme heat, remove the device from the vehicle or store it out of direct sunlight, such as in the glove box. • Do not remove or attempt to remove the battery. • Do not disassemble, modify, remanufacture, puncture or damage the device. • Do not immerse or expose the device to water or other liquids, fire, explosion, or other hazard. • When storing the device for an extended time, store within the following temperature range: from 32° to 77°F (from 0° to 25°C). • Do not operate the device outside of the following temperature range: from -4° to 131°F (from -20° to 55°C). • Contact your local waste disposal department to dispose of 2 DRAFT 3 the device/battery in accordance with applicable local laws and regulations. Pacemakers and Other Medical Devices Studies have shown that there may be a potential interaction between mobile devices and normal pacemaker operation. The pacemaker industry recommends that people with pacemakers follow these guidelines to minimize any risk of interference with pacemaker operation: • Always maintain a distance of 6 inches (15 cm) between the pacemaker and any mobile device that is turned on. • Store the device on the opposite side of the pacemaker. Do not carry the device in a breast pocket. • If you think that interference may be occurring, turn off the device immediately. • For other medical devices, consult with your physician or the manufacturer to determine if your mobile device may interfere with the medical device, and to determine any precautions that you can take to avoid interference. Notice Windshield Mounting Legal Restrictions Before using the suction cup mount on your windshield, check the state and local laws and ordinances where you drive. Some state laws prohibit drivers from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. Other state laws allow the suction mount to be located only in specific locations on the windshield. Many other states have enacted restrictions against placing objects on the windshield in locations that obstruct the driver’s vision.
