The VDM has the capability of maintaining four active RF connections between the VDM and the handsets. This means that only four handsets may be in use at any one time. All of the call processing states described in the next chapters require the handset to use an RF channel. Any time a function is attempted which requires an RF channel, but one is not available, the handset displays, “No Channel Available.” Text Conventions Throughout this document the following conventions are used to identify special text elements. • Keypad names, soft key names, and menu items appear in bold. • Definitions appear in bold italic in the left margin. • Supplemental information about a topic appears as a Note: in the left margin. • Multiple menu selections are separated by |. For example, if you are instructed to select Menu | Speed Dial List, you would first select Menu, and then Speed Dial List from the submenu that appears. 1-2Home RF User Guide Description of the Handset Keys KeyDescription Four soft keysThese keys are context sensitive and perform the operation described on the display directly above them. MenuActivates the idle or active menu. Pressing it during a menu escapes one level up from the menu. Pressing and holding menu for over one second completely escapes out of any menu. L1, L2, L3, and L4Line keys with LEDs. Speaker iconSpeaker key with LED. Keypad keys (0 to 9, *, #) Used for dialing or data entry. Pressing and holding 0 to 9 for over one second during idle makes a speed call. Pressing and holding # for over one second during idle state will lock the keypad. Lock keyInvoke by pressing # for at least one second. Power onInvoke by pressing the Flash key for at least one second during idle or while the handset is powered off. FlashDuring data entry of a phone number, this key inserts a two second delay. Pressing and holding Flash for over one second during idle turns the phone off. Pressing Flash when the phone is off powers the phone on. LogPress to go in and out of the call log menu. IntIntercom key. 1-3 Power On Note: The Flash key is valid even when the keypad is locked. To power the handset on, press the Flash key for at least 1 second while the handset is powered off. To power the handset off, press the Flash key for at least 1 second while the handset is idle. Lock Key To activate: Press the # key for at least 1 second while the device is in the idle state. Use this feature to lock the keys on the handset to prevent accidental key presses. After activating the key lock, the handset displays “Keypad Locked” and sounds a confirmation tone. When the keypad is locked, the only keys that are operational are the u…

TRP/Cetecom bvba December 7, 2001 Federal Communications Commission 7435 Oakland Mills Rd Columbia, MD 21036 Re: Pending application for a cordless telephone handset to be marketed as a separate item FCC ID:L82-HOME-RF-4000 Gentlemen: The application submitted herewith on behalf of Siemens is for cordless handsets to be marketed independently marketed for use with a multi-line capable base unit. There are two versions of this handset that are essentially identical except one unit can remotely access up to two independent phone lines and the other unit can remotely access up to four independent phone lines. All handset access is via a RF link to the base unit. These new models of handsets (4820 and 4840) are basically identical to the handsets certified as part of a cordless telephone system (4000 series consisting of approximately 8 models) under FCCID:L82-1408 on May 29, 2001 and subsequent Class II permissive changes. However, new software has been implemented to provide multi-line functional capability, added features and integration with a new keypad. To accomplish the implementation of the software, minor variations in printed circuit board layout design was required. A later version of the Infineon RF transceiver was incorporated that uses the same basic random frequency hop selection algorithms as the previous approved models in the 4000 series of cordless phones. Basic technical description, frequency hop selection, rf transceiver sections for these handsets are unchanged from the handsets submitted and accepted for the previously approved system under FCC ID:L82-2408. In support of this application, a new measurement report, new SAR data, updated photographs and schematics have been provided as well as other pertinent information. Sincerely, Phillip Inglis Consultant 14085 Howard Rd Dayton, MD 21036

We tested the 4820 completely. The difference between 4820 and 4840 is in the software and the keypad. Measured differences are only in radiated and conducted power, but within 1dB. The radiated measurements were performed vertical, horizontal results were more then 7 dB lower over the whole frequency range. This is done automatically by our testing system. We start at 1 m high with vertical receiving antenna and rotate the dish continuously. During rotation we use the antenna lift system to vary the high from 1 to 4 m. So we find maximum radiation output. At this points we do manual remeasurements. After this we do the same measurements in horizontal position of the receiving antenna. This (horizontal and vertical) is made for all the three planes of the test sample. We use the maximum received results. The antenna gain measurement was performed by the difference between conducted and radiated output measurement. All measurement settings are according to FCC 15.35, 15.205, 15.209, 15.247 and the „Measurement guidelines for FHSS systems“. Measurements below 1 GHz were performed with a CISPR Quasi Peak Adapter, over 1 GHz we used peak measurements. At peaks we did an second, average measurement. ResBW and VBW were according FCC requirements. No deviations from the technical specification(s) were ascertained in the course of the tests performed.
