Introduction Project Name: Mini-Module (802.11b/g + BT Module) based on Marvell IC 88W8688 with TFBGA package. This documentation describes the Engineering requirements specification of the WLAN (802.11b/g) +Bluetooth 2.1 EDR Mini-Module. It is a confidential document of FOXCONN. 1.1 Scope The Wireless MARVELL 88W8688BFL Mini-Module is designed to support 802.11g data rate of 54, 48, 36, 24, 18, 12, 9, 6Mbps, and as well as 802.11b data rate of 11, 5.5, 2, 1Mbps for WLAN operation. In addition, this module is Bluetooth 2.1+Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) compliant which provide 1, 2 and 3Mbps data rate. 1.2 Function  Compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g standard and Bluetoothv2.1+EDR standard  Ultra low-power dissipation  Support external power down mode  Support Marvell Wi-Fi/Bluetooth coexistence  Support the IEEE 802.11i security standard through implementation of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)/ Counter Mode CBC-Mac Protocol (CCMP) and WEP security mechanisms. Also supports Internet Protocol Security (IPSce) with DES/3DES/AES encryption and MD5/SHA-1 authentication. The requirements of section 15.212 of FCC rules have been met and shown on the following statements. 1. “The modular transmitter must have its own RF shielding.” The radio portion of this module has been shielded, please see exhibition External Photo. 2. “The modular transmitter must have buffered modulation/data inputs.” The EUT has buffered data inputs, it is integrated in chip 88W8688. 3. “The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation.” The modular transmitter has its own power supply regulation built in 88W8688. 4. “The modular transmitter must comply with the antenna requirements of section 15.203 and 15.204(C).” The EUT meets the FCC antenna requirements. The spurious emission, unique antenna connector and photo of antennas are shown in the test report. 5. “The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-alone configuration” The EUT was placed on an extended card which connected to Notebook Computer as a stand-alone configuration. The EUT was tested via the outside a Notebook Computer. If the signal to noise rate is too poor which could not support 54Mbps, the 11Mbps data rate with DSSS technique will be applied. The transmitter of EUT (WLAN and BT combo module) is powered by host equipment. Introduction In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC) calibrated for antenna measurement in our lab, and also the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. Although the Friis transmission formula is a far field assumption, the calculated result of that is an over-prediction for near field power density. We will take that as the worst case to specify the safety range. 2. This confirmed that the device comply with FCC 1.1310 MPE limit.
