This getting started guide contains information on using your Bluetooth TM Modem Station hard- ware and software with a Bluetooth PC Card. We strongly recommend that you read this guide before using the device, even if you are already familiar with Bluetooth technology and personal computers. INSTRUCTIONS Bluetooth ™ Modem Station Getting Started Guide Fujitsu PC Corporation 2 Special Notices Electrical Information The Fujitsu Modem Station could malfunction in the event of a change in voltage due to electrical disturbance. To protect against voltage sag, use of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is recommended. The frequency band used for the Modem Station is the same as for some types of industrial, scientific, and medical equipment, including microwave ovens, as well as on- premises radio stations (subject to a license) for identifica- tion of mobile units, e.g., radio stations installed in produc- tion lines in factories, and other application-specific low- output radio stations (not subject to a license). In the event the Modem Station causes radio interference to an on-premises radio station for identification of mobile units, immediately change the frequency used or break off connection, and consult FM Information Service about preventive measures against radio interference (for example, installation of partitions). If you have a problem with the Modem Station, such as radio interference to an application-specific low-output radio station for identification of mobile units, contact FM Information Service for help. Safety Instructions This section provides information that you must follow to avoid personal injury or damage to property when using the 3 Modem Station. Before reading this guide, read the following information thoroughly. Do not install the Modem Station near medical elec- tronic equipment. Don’t use the Modem Station near an automatic door or fire alarm, otherwise radio waves transmitted by the Modem Station could affect its automatic control unit. Do not insert or pull out the AC adapter with a wet hand. Insert the AC adapter firmly as far as it will go. If not, this may cause an electric shock or a fire due to heat generation. Pull out the AC adapter immediately when you find any abnormality. Do not use the Modem Station in the abnormal conditions, e.g., the unit is damaged, a foreign smell is given off, a foreign substance is put in the unit, smoke is emitted, or the unit is heated excessively. This may cause a fire or electric shock. Do not cover or enclose the AC adapter in use. The accumulated heat may cause a fire. Do not exceed the rating of a wall outlet or wiring acces- sories or use voltages other than 100 VAC. If you do not use the AC adapter for a long time, pull out the plug. Never disassemble, repair, or modify the unit. Touching internal components could cause you to get an electric shock. 4 Do not leave the unit in the following places: Where it is subject to excessive moisture, dust, heat, or cold On an unstable surface Where it is subject to mechanical shock During communication You can call up or be called up on the telephone connected to the Modem Station irrespective of whether the power to the personal computer or the Modem Station is turned on or off. The telephone also functions as a message phone. However, it cannot be used during communication using the Modem Station. When multiple computers have been registered in one Modem Station, only one personal computer can be used at a time for communications. When a communications application can not be termi- nated normally, confirm that the status indicator lamps (“OFF HOOK” and “CONNECT”) of the Modem Station go off. If they do not go off, turn off the power switch once and turn it on again. (Telephone charges will accrue if the “OFF HOOK” and “CONNECT” lamps remain lit.) Avoid using the unit for extended periods of time. 5 This chapter describes basic matters that you should fully understand before performing communications using the Modem Station. Before proceeding, be sure to carefully review the important safety information starting on page page 2. Verification of Connector Type Before connecting the Modem Station, verify the connector to which you will connect is one of the types shown below. Figure 1. Jack Configurations Modular Jack Rosette 3-Terminal Jack 4-Terminal Jack Getting Started 6 Make a change as described below when the line branch point used is other than a modular jack. - For rosette Replace the line branch point with a modular jack. - For three- or four-terminal jack Replace the line branch point with a modular jack or use a commercial conversion adapter for connection with a modular plug as shown below. Figure 2. Conversion Adapter Using the Modem Station in conjunction with a Bluetooth PC Card, you can browse Web pages or send and receive e- mail by connecting wirelessly to the Internet. You can also send or receive faxes using commercial fax software. Using the Modem Station 7 Wireless communications can be performed via an analog line when a Bluetooth PC Card is used together with the Modem Station. Figure 3. APPENDIX 1 - RADIATED MEASUREMENTS AT A BANDEDGEAPPENDIX 1 - RADIATED MEASUREMENTS AT A BANDEDGE Scope This report contains the results of the Band-edge testing performed on the Fujitsu PC Corp. model: PFCWL02. The tests were carried out in accordance with FCC CFR 15.247(c). Applicable References 1. FCC CFR 15.247(c). 2. ANSI C63.4-1992. 3. “RADIATED MEASUREMENTS AT A BANDEDGE” by FCC FCC Requirements Band-edge radiated emission measurements may be necessary to demonstrate compliance with radiated emission limits in Sections 15.249(c) or 15.205 when a restricted band is located adjacent to a 15.247 band (e.g., the restricted band beginning at 2483.5 MHz). Perform an in-band field strength measurement of the fundamental emission using the RBW and detector function required by C63.4. For transmitters operating above 1 GHz, use a 1 MHz RBW and a peak detector (as required by Section 15.35). Repeat the measurement with an average detector (i.e., 1 MHz RBW with 10 Hz video bandwidth). 2. Set the analyzer RBW to 1% of the total span, but never use a RBW less than 30 kHz. Use a video bandwidth equal to or greater than the RBW. Fujitsu PC Corp. FCC ID #: MU7FPCWL02Fujitsu PC Corp. FCC ID #: MU7FPCWL02 Test Report #: FUJ-0201-2871-TCBTest Report #: FUJ-0201-2871-TCB Prepared for Fujitsu PC Corp.Prepared for Fujitsu PC Corp. Prepared by EMC Compliance Management GroupPrepared by EMC Compliance Management Group Bluetooth is a trademark of Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson and Fujitsu is licensed to use its logo. Record the peak levels of the fundamental emission and the relevant band-edge emission (i.e., run several sweeps in peak hold mode). Observe the stored trace and measure the amplitude delta between the peak of the fundamental and the peak of the band-edge emission. 3. Subtract the delta measured in (2) from the field strengths measured in (1). The resultant field strengths (CISPR QP, average, or peak, as appropriate) are then used to determine band-edge compliance as required by CFR 15.205. 4. Use the above "delta" measurement technique for measuring emissions that are up to two "standard" bandwidths away from the band-edge, where a "standard" bandwidth is the bandwidth specified by C63.4 for the frequency being measured. For example, for band-edge measurements in the restricted band that begins at 2483.5 MHz, C63.4 specifies a measurement bandwidth of at least 1 MHz. Plot Fujitsu PC Corp.
